1 THE CHURCH OF S AINT I GNATIUS L OYOLA A ROMAN CATHOLIC C OMMUNITY INSPIRED BY THE TRADITION OF ST. IGNATIUS, S T. HEDWIG AND S T. MARY'S ANNUNCIATION PARISHES. e, the blended Catholic community of St. Ignatius Loyola, draw strength from Word and Sacrament, especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. Modeling Christ s work, we embrace our com- W mitment to God s call. We remain faithful to the shared acts of prayer, study and service. Together we extend Christ s hospitality to others and light the path of peace for generations to come. Knowing God is more important than knowing about God. Karl Rahner, S.J.

A D V E N T B E G I N S N O V E M B E R 2 7 T H In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship. Saturday, December 3rd - First Penance retreat, Bergan Hall, 10 AM - Noon. All members of this year s First Communion class are expected to attend. Sunday, December 4th - Grade 7 Family Morning/Class Mass. All Grade 7 students, both public and private schools, and their families are strongly encouraged to attend. The Altar Breads and Wine for this week are offered For the Greater Honor and Glory of God as requested by Bob & Mildred Walsh OUR THANKFUL TREE In the sanctuary of the Church this weekend, a tree was decorated with leaves that the youth of our parish expressed words of Thanksgiving. The leaves will be displayed on the tree until Advent as a visible reminder of youthful hope and gratitude within the parish. We ask that you keep the children, young adults and parishioners of all ages in your prayers as we reflect on all the good in our lives and how God s love is present within us. An Adult Christmas Journey through the Scriptures: Our Bible Studies program for this Advent will be, most appropriately, the Infancy Narratives. Parishioners and friends are invited to join us in Bergen Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, November 29 th, December 6 th and 13 th or at 8:15 a.m. on Fridays, December 2 nd, 9 th, 16 th. There will be no fee for this series since participants will use their own bibles and share their insights to the text. Though surprisingly brief the Infancy Narratives constitute only four chapters: 2 from Matthew and 2 from Luke they are filled with wonderful and inspirational details of what transpires as God presents his greatest gift to us, Jesus. Rather than relying on question booklets, discussions will be guided by prompts provided for each week s reading and by your responses to the scripture. We hope you can join us for this adult Christmas journey through the scriptures. Please contact the rectory of your intent to participate at Sanctuary Candles Burn this week In Memory of Anna & Leo Servello By Servello Family In Memory of Linda Jagoda By Family ADULT FAITH FORMATION As we prepare for the Advent Season to celebrate the Nativity, we remember that the Holy Family was homeless in Bethlehem - There was no room at the inn. Sister Cathy McGroarty, R.S.M. will speak on contemporary homeless women and children. She is the director of McAuley House in Plymouth, the old St. Vincent s Convent and will be our guest speaker on Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 PM in Bergan Hall. All are welcome to learn some facts about women and family homelessness in the Wyoming Valley and the Church and see our response as baptized followers of Jesus. W E E K L Y M E D I T A T I O N The repentant thief simply asked Jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom. This criminal confessed his sins and then repented and asked forgiveness. We too, sinners all, can confidently approach our King and say Jesus, remember me when I die. These words of understanding and faith teach us that Jesus is the King of all of us. We encourage you to spend quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the week with a special prayer intention in mind. Just pick up a card after your visit to Church and send it off to the one in your prayer. The cards may be used on First Fridays by those attending Eucharistic Adoration. Think gospel! Please make room for your neighbor in church and slide to the center of the pew.

Thursday Thanksgiving Day Mass - 9:00 AM - Church Saturday Prayer Shawl Ministry - 12:30 PM Bergan Parish Center (1st Floor) USHERS / GREETERS / HOSPITALITY MINISTRY WE ARE GROWING What a difference a warm smile and a sincere welcome makes in the lives of others! Our Mission is to welcome each person who enters through our doors with a Spirit of love and compassion. We are called the "door keepers" or "watchers", and have the privilege of making the first and last impression on a person who walks into the church. We can ease a visitor's transition from an uneasy curiosity to security and enjoyment. This is just one of the primary goals of the Greeters, Ushers & Hospitality Minister. In addition, ushers need to maintain order and keep movement during service to a minimum. Our ushers are trained to be on one accord with our Pastor, to be accommodating in any way so that the vision of the service can be achieved. Meeting and greeting all members and visitors with the same warmth and love, providing bulletins to everyone and leading the members or visitors to their seats, and maintaining order during offering; all the while, being cheerful and reverent. This ministry involves one training session a year, and there is ongoing education and support offered throughout the year. Ministers serve once a month at the liturgy they normally attend, but are encouraged to serve whenever there is an opening. Interested individuals and families should be hospitable, have an ability to see the needs of others and respond to them, and be welcoming. If you have an interest in serving others in this way, please contact the parish office at or members of our Worship Coordinating Team found on the back of the bulletin. IN MEMORIAM Jean Charneski Teach us to give and not to count the cost. Ignatius of Loyola
