CHILDREN S BULLETINS The Children s Bulletin is a weekly child friendly (ages 3-12) worksheet on the Gospel of the day. Please use them to help your children understand. The bulletins can be found in the back of the Church (on the food bank container) and the Chapel. THE MORE YOU KNOW--UNDERSTANDING OUR CATHOLIC FAITH This year at St. Ignatius Loyola we are renewing our focus on learning about our Catholic tradition. In addition to our regular Bible study sessions, we are adding two different monthly opportunities: The first Wednesday of each month (starting September 2nd) from 7-8 PM Father Alex and a variety of speakers from our parish and the area will give 30 minute talks on some aspect of our faith, followed by a brief discussion. The second Wednesday of each month (starting September 9th) from 7-8 PM we will be watching installments of Fr. Robert Barron's 10-part Catholicism series. This DVD series is a recent critically-acclaimed look at the faith we hold as Roman Catholics. None of these talks are cumulative, so you can attend every month or only when it interests you. Keep watching for details on the topics we will cover and please consider spending some time exploring the faith with us this year. God remains with all who partake of the precious Body and Blood of Our Lord. Our hearts should almost burst in anticipation of our reception of Holy Communion and the promise He speaks of. 3 T H E S U N D A Y L I G H T Page 3 OFFERTORY ENVELOPE NOTICE: Due to recent vandalism, we are asking parishioners to no longer place offertory envelopes in the mailbox in front of the rectory. Please deliver envelopes by hand, mail, or in church. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you, as always, for your continued support of our parish community. SECURITY SYSTEM In the near future, we will be changing the codes on the doors of St. Ignatius Church, Conlan Hall and Bergan Hall. Over the past several months, we have had several issues that include doors that are left unlocked following meetings, lights on when no one is in the building and concerns regarding people wandering throughout our property. Please return all key fobs that you have in your possession as these will no longer work when the system is updated. If you are a committee or council chairperson, you are asked to contact the rectory after September 1st, to receive the updated codes. You are asked to keep the new codes to yourself for the safety of our parishioners. If you see any suspicious activity, please call the rectory. PINES DINNER THEATRE SHOW REMINDER Everyone who made reservations for our Mary s Ministry bus trip to the Pines Dinner Theatre in Allentown on Sunday, August 23rd, for the musical show Grease is reminded that departure from St. Ann s Chapel parking lot will be at 10:30 AM for the luncheon and matinee performance. 4 Page 4 A U G U S T 1 6, S E R V I C E H E L P I N G O T H E R S BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOUP KITCHEN St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, 39 E. Jackson St., Wilkes-Barre, is now taking donations of school supplies. Items being collected are: backpacks, notebooks, binders, paper, pens, plastic scissors, pencils, pencil sharpeners, markers, erasers, glue sticks and crayons. Items can be dropped off at the kitchen and will be collected up until August 18th. Volunteers are needed for distribution at Our Lady of Hope, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, on Wednesday, August 26th, from 9:00 AM-Noon and 3:00-6:00 PM. COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCH IN EASTERN EUROPE - AUGUST 29TH & 30TH This collection supports Catholic organizations that provide affordable shelter and train seminarians in a region that still struggles from the effects of Soviet rule. By providing pastoral care, catechesis, and funding for building renovations, your donations help to restore the Church and build the future in the region. Prayer Cards We encourage you to spend quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the week with a special prayer intention in mind. Just pick up a card after your visit to Church and send it off to the one in your prayer. The cards may be used on First Fridays by those attending Eucharistic Adoration. PAINT PITTSON PINK Our Second Annual Paint Pittston Pink has expanded to over a week s worth of events. As you may know, these community events are being held to raise money for breast cancer research.
