The life of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is poured into us through the baptism Christ commanded. This life is a gift. Sharing God s life we share God s work: to make disciples, to baptize and to teach Christ s commands. The power to do God s work comes from God s triune life within us. A ROMAN CATHOLIC C OMMUNITY INSPIRED BY THE TRADITION OF ST. IGNATIUS, S T. HEDWIG AND S T. MARY'S ANNUNCIATION PARISHES. MERCYFIRE PRISON RETREAT Sally McGinley and Cindy Liskov, members of the Prison Christian Growth Group, participated in a recent retreat facilitated by Sister Judith Krantz and her MercyFire Retreat team at Dallas SCI. A large group of Christian inmates participated in the weekend retreat which included large group topic talks by staff, small group faith sharing, group praise through prayer and singing, and scripture passage reenactments. The highlight of the weekend was Mass celebrated by Bishop Timlin with the inmate led choir and altar servers. The unique fellowship experienced at this retreat has led to increased inmate participation at the weekly Prison Christian Growth Group gatherings. W e, the blended Catholic community of St. Ignatius Loyola, draw strength from Word and Sacrament, especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. Modeling Christ s work, we embrace our commitment to God s call. We remain faithful to the shared acts of prayer, study and service. Together we extend Christ s hospitality to others and light the path of peace for generations to come. Knowing God is more important than knowing about God. Karl Rahner, S.J.

W O R S H I P L I T U R G Y A N D P R A Y E R HIGHLIGHTS OF LITURGY DURING THE MONTH OF MAY The parish has been quite busy this month of May; during the first week, Mary s Ministry recited the Rosary before the 10:30 family liturgy and during a Mass mid- May, members of the Reese McGlynn family crowned the statue of Mary to honor her as our Queen and Mother of Jesus and thank her for her unconditional love. May 13th was Mother s Day and we strengthened our devotion to Mary and recognized and thanked our Mothers for their love and sacrifices in a most important and difficult role, raising their children. As the month continued, our parish family saw the 8th grade students of both St Ignatius and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton receive one of the sacraments of initiation, Confirmation, the morning of Saturday, May 19. The Holy Spirit comes to them in a special way to become full participants of our Catholic faith in this sacrament. On Sunday, May 20th at the Noon Mass, 37 of our second graders received First Holy Communion, receiving Jesus for the very first time. This is also a sacrament of initiation. May we remember them all through prayer. In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship. Sunday Tithe $12, This Week s Expenses $3, MEMORIAL DAY MASS Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM in the Church on Monday, May 28th. Please note: There will be no 7:30 AM or 12:10 PM Mass on that day. GRADUATES MASS On Sunday, June 3rd, at the 10:30 AM Mass, our parish family high school graduates will be honored especially those who have serviced in the parish in ministry areas altar server, choir, and religious education. A reception for the graduates and their families will follow the Mass in Conlan Hall. Graduates are asked to RSVP before May 29 th by calling the office at FATHER S DAY MASS INTENTION ENVELOPES Special Father s Day Mass Intention envelopes can be found in your monthly packets to remember both living and deceased fathers. Please write the names of your loved ones on the back of the envelope. The envelopes will be placed on the altar during all of the Masses on Father s Day to remember your intentions. 3 Page 3 C O M M U N I T Y G R O W I N G T O G E T H E R PINES DINNER THEATRE SHOW REMINDER Everyone who made reservations for our Mary s Ministry bus trip to the Pines Dinner Theatre in Allentown on Sunday, June 10th is reminded that departure from the Chapel parking lot will be at 10:30 AM for the luncheon and matinee performance. We will return about 5:30 PM. Anyone else interested in this trip should contact Elaine Whipple at to see if any seats are available. Cost-$80.00 MARY S MINISTRY FALL BUS TRIP TO SIGHT & SOUND THEATRE SHOW JESUS Treat yourself, friends and family. Mary s Ministry has reserved tickets for the 3PM performance of Jesus at Sight & Sound Theatres, Lancaster, PA for Tuesday, September 25, Our bus will leave St. Ann s Chapel at 8:30 AM and stop for lunch and shopping at Shady Maple Smorgasbord. We will leave from the show about 5:45 PM with a comfort stop enroute home. Since theatre seats will not be assigned until full payment is received, we are now accepting non-refundable trip payments so we can finalize our plans ASAP. Reservations will be accepted in the order checks are received so do not delay. Contact Elaine Whipple at (570) ASAP for details and to make your reservation. The cost per person for lunch, show ticket, and bus: Adults (13 & up) $110, Child (11-12) $80, Child (3-10) $72. Make checks payable to Church of St. Ignatius Loyola (memo Jesus). AED TRAINING With our Automatic External Defibrillators in place, the Knights of Columbus Assumpta Council 3987 is sponsoring training in use of these life saving devices. A Friend s and CPR Class is scheduled to take place the evening of Wednesday, June 20th in Conlan Hall at 6:00 PM. It is free of charge. American Heart Association s & Friends CPR is for people who wish to learn CPR but do not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. It is taught by certified instructors, and lasts approximately one hour. The course includes a short video AND supervised hands-on practice with mannequins and AED training devises similar to our AED s. Those completing the course will receive a reference book to take home. cpr.heart.org Ushers, and all of us serving and attending Masses and church activities are encouraged to attend. May we all continue to care for each other in this important way. In order to ensure adequate equipment, staff and books, reservations must be made by calling the Rectory by June 10th. Mary s Ministry will hold an emergency clothing collection at Masses Memorial Day weekend. We will be accepting clean, gently used men's & women's summer, casual & work clothes. Also, school aged children's summer play clothes. Drop off dates will be Saturday, May 26, 3pm-6pm & Sunday, May 27, 9:30am-1pm at Bergan Parish Center. Your donations would be greatly appreciated. FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS Now and throughout the month of May, our Food Pantry is requesting donations of personal items in addition to our usual food and monetary donations. Requested items include: toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, mouthwash, soap, shower gel, body lotion, deodorant, hand cream, hand sanitizer, shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, shaving cream, toilet paper and tissues. Regular and travel size items are welcome. Please place the items in the food collection bins at the Church and Chapel. Thank you for your continuous support of our Food Pantry. You are asked to contact one of the parish priests at least six months before the date of your marriage so that the appropriate preparations can be made for this special celebration. VISITATION OF THE SICK Please call the office for visitation of the sick at home, in the hospital, or health care facility. Eucharistic Adoration is held the First Friday of the month at Saint Ignatius Church beginning at 12:45 PM concluding with Benediction at 4:00 PM.
