Youth When is it hard for you to know the right thing to do? LABOR DAY MASS - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH Mass on Monday, September 5th will be celebrated at 9:00 AM in the Church. Please note: there will be no 7:30 AM or 12:10 PM Mass on that day. NATIONAL DAY OF PUBLIC PRAYER The parishioners of St. Ignatius Loyola join the Diocese of Scranton and the United States Catholic Conference for the National Day of Prayer for Peace in our communities. Our participation on the Feast of St. Peter Claver will begin at 8:00 AM, after the 7:30 AM Mass on Friday, September 9th at the Church. The purpose of our gathering is prayer and quiet to begin dialogue and healing within our communities. This will also renew our faith response to our commitment to mercy, peace and justice in our nation in this Year of Mercy. The service will include the rosary, scripture readings and reflections and public prayer. There will also be an Interfaith Experience for Peace in our communities at the Cathedral of St. Peter s in Scranton on Friday, September 9th at 12:10 PM. Please join us. ROSARY RALLY - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH The Knights of Columbus, combined Councils of the Wyoming Valley, will host their 40th annual Rosary Rally, Sunday, September 25th at our Parish of St. Ignatius Loyola. A rosary procession from the Church, through the streets of the parish will begin at 2:00 PM. The Knights of Columbus will carry the Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Virgin Statue in the procession followed by all the faithful. Those who will not be in the procession are invited to go directly to the Church by 3:00 PM, at which time Marian devotions will take place, followed by Mass. The Most Reverend James C. Timlin will preside at the Mass. The Mass will satisfy Sunday obligation. Knights of Columbus members and all the faithful are welcome to attend this prayerful event. Special emphasis will be focused on praying for religious freedom in our country. Refreshments will be served following Mass in Conlan Hall. The Our Lady of Fatima statue will be in the sanctuary of our Church for the weekend of September 24th & 25th. During that time, a petition box for prayer intentions to Our Lady will be available in the Church. LECTOR WORKBOOKS The new lector workbooks have arrived. Over 140 parishioners and friends joined together to enjoy wonderful food, music, games and each other. A wonderful time was had by all under the pavilion at Keely s, When the rain stopped, young and old joined Father Alex for rousing games of volleyball and can jam. A dancing and hula hoop contest were other highlights. Many thanks to the Social Committee and the Community Commission for organizing another wonderful event for our parish. A special thank you to those donated the baskets for the event - they were fantastic! MARY S MINISTRY COVERED DISH SOCIAL/MEETING - SEPTEMBER 13TH Mark your calendar today. On Tuesday, September 13th at 5:30 PM, Mary s Ministry will host a fall Covered Dish Social/Meeting in Conlan Hall. We will have a brief business meeting open to all to adopt our program of work calendar and spending plan for Following dinner, Father Chmil will share with us the highlights of his recent visit to Romania. SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE LOUISIANA FLOODS The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has requested that a special collection be taken up in all parishes the weekend of September 17th-18th, to support the victims of the 2016 Louisiana Floods, the worst domestic disaster since Hurricane Sandy. This emergency collection will be used to support the humanitarian efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral rebuilding support to impacted dioceses. Thank you for your generosity. MARY S Glass and Plastic containers will not be allowed All other decorations will be allowed for two weeks at Easter, Mother s Day, Memorial Day, Father s Day and Christmas. At the end of the two-week period, all decorations not yet reclaimed will be removed from the Cemetery. Boxes of all types and urns must be among the articles removed. Planting of shrubs and trees within the Cemetery must be approved by the Superintendent. Grimalia asked the Office for Parish Life to extend to each of you an invita on to this special colloquium for ongoing forma on and collabora ve dialogue. Pope Francis has brought new energy to the pastoral ministry of the Church. He has wri en much in the past three years portraying his vision of the Church s mission to live and proclaim the Gospel. His magisterial teachings are very much in line with his predecessors, St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Yet, Pope Francis clearly speaks and writes in a new style, which many, at mes, find to be confusing and non-tradi onal as it captures the imagina on of the world. His words, however, are anchored in our theological tradi on, which like the Second Va can Council goes back to Scripture, the Church Fathers, and St. Thomas Aquinas himself. Both Monsignor Grimalia and I have poured over Pope Francis wri ngs, and Monsignor Grimalia has given presenta ons across the Diocese on The Joy of the Gospel and On Care for Our Common Home. For those of you who might wish to come to a be er understanding of these documents, Monsignor and I have scheduled a four-part colloquium series in which we can sit down together and talk about these wri ngs and about their applica on to parish ministry today.
