For the six Wednesdays of Lent, Father Andrew will facilitate a journey of spiritual renewal in our parish. Beginning this week, immediately following our Ash Wednesday prayer service at 7:00 PM, why not come down to Conlan Hall and embark on a journey of developing a more intimate relationship with God by awakening God s presence through the people, places and experiences of our daily lives. Come, check it out! All are welcome! (While this Renewal follows a series of presentations which build on one another each week, it is not necessary to attend all 6 weeks. Come when you can. Consider making a Holy Hour during this time. Please note the change this year, Benediction will not take place at the end of Stations of the Cross, but before. Prayer guides and supplemental material will be available for your use to guide you in praying before the Blessed Sacrament. F R I D A Y S T A T I O N S O F T H E C R O S S This traditional Lenten exercise will be held each Friday of Lent at 5:30 PM. E V E N I N G P R A Y E R Each Sunday of Lent we will celebrate Christian Prayer in song at 7:00 PM. C O N F E S S I O N S The Light Is On For You - Mondays of Lent from 5:30-7:00 PM. St. Ignatius and all the parishes in the Diocese of Scranton will be open for individual confessions beginning Monday, March 6th for five weeks. We will still hold our regular Saturday confessions. L E N T E N F A S T I N G R E G U L A T I O N S Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14 years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and the Fridays of Lent. F A M I L I E S H E L P I N G F A M I L I E S L E N T E N C A M P A I G N We are especially reminded of God s mercy during Lent. We can spread God s mercy by generous service to those in need. With that in mind, the Religious Education Program s Lenten campaign, Families Helping Families will begin the first weekend of Lent. Please consider offering your change. Containers will be located in the foyer of the Church and Chapel beginning the first weekend of Lent. The proceeds of this campaign will be shared by St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen and the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi. Thank you for your continued generosity in advance. Don t forget! Join your child/children for this family class focused on the season of Lent. Parents are asked to bring pencil, crayons and scissors. Families of those children attending Catholic school are always most welcome to attend. Wednesday, March 1st - Grade 7 and 8 Release Time Sunday, March 5th - Grade 5 Family Morning/Class Mass. All our Grade 5 students, both public and private schools, and their families are strongly encouraged to attend this morning beginning at 9:15 AM in Conlan Hall with a light continental breakfast and family activity. The class Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. Confirmation Prayer Cards - Next weekend, March 4th and 5th, members of this year s Confirmation Class with the help of our ushers will be offering prayer cards to all those attending Mass. Each prayer card has the name of a Confirmation candidate along with a prayer. Please accept one and pray for that student. ADULT FAITH FORMATION - SCRIPTURE STUDIES This season s study, A Biblical Walk Through the Mass will begin on Tuesday, April 4th at 6:30 PM and continue each week until May 2nd. All sessions are scheduled for Bergan Hall (1st floor). More details will follow so mark your calendars. LITTLE BLACK BOOKS This Little Black Book is your companion for Lent. The goal is to find six minutes of quiet time every day for the next 50 days to walk through this book a page at a time. LENTEN PRAYER BREAKFAST The Scranton Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will conduct a Lenten Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, April 1st at the Diocese of Scranton Pastoral Center, 330 Wyoming Ave., Scranton. The retreat will begin at 9:00 AM and will end with Mass at St. Peter s Cathedral at 12:10 PM. The speaker will be Megan Murphy. 4 W E E K L Y M E D I T A T I O N There is a popular lyric, Don t stop thinking about tomorrow, which seems to be in direct contrast of our Lord s message in today s gospel: Those who are enslaved to wealth cannot give themselves wholeheartedly to God. When we become anxious about the future and our needs, i.e., physical sustenance, proper clothing, etc. we are showing a lack of trust in God. Prioritize: Love the Lord with your whole being. The event will begin with Mass at 11 a.m. with a bagpipe processional and recessional in the chapel followed by the dinner and entertainment from 12 to 4 p.m. in the auditorium. The menu includes ham and cabbage with potatoes and carrots, rolls and butter, vanilla ice cream with mint or chocolate syrup, and beverages. The entertainment for the afternoon includes the Kearns Drum and Pipe Band, D.J. Dr. Dragon the Practitioner of Entertainment, and Irish step dancing by the Crossmolina School of Dance. Tickets for adults are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets for children 10 and younger are $6. Following is a list of requested items: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, hand cream, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, soap, band aids, shampoo/conditioner, combs, disposable razors, toilet paper, shaving cream, tissues. Regular and travel size items are welcome and can be left in the food collection bins in the Church and Chapel. As always, thank you for all that you do to support our Food Pantry. JUNIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AT GWV Are you interested in joining us? GWV_Volunteer_Services@Geisinger.edu with the subject Junior Program Registration or call the GWV Volunteer office at for information about how to apply for the program. Schedule: Weekdays - Evenings between 3 PM and 7 PM. Weekends - Mornings between 8 AM and 1 PM. All new junior volunteers must attend an orientation. It is not mandatory to attend every day. Watch the bulletin for ministry information. THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS This is a process the Catholic Church uses to bring adult members into the faith. Anyone interested in becoming a part of this process or in obtaining more information can call the Rectory at This journey in faith is concerned with the total formation of the person into living and serving with the Church community.
