JANUARY 28, 2018 CHURCH OF THE VISITATION PAGE TWO PASTOR NOTES: WHERE GOES RENEW VISITATION? Christmas is behind us and Lent is rapidly approaching.

So, in this relatively quiet in-between time, I wanted to report to you what is happening with Renew Visitation. As of this week, we have raised $1,377,032.

I continue to ask those who have yet to contribute to this effort to prayerfully consider doing so. What lies ahead? Several things.

We want to start construction this summer, God willing. Last Thursday, our architect submitted plans to the city zoning commission and we are awaiting their (hopeful) approval.

These two busy times of year can be so filled with activity that it can sidetrack other parish events or its attention. So, in this relatively quiet in-between time, I wanted to report to you what is happening with Renew Visitation. As of this week, we have raised $1,377, in pledges and donations from 290 families. I am so grateful to all of you who have so contributed to our effort to restore our parish. I continue to ask those who have yet to contribute to this effort to prayerfully consider doing so. What lies ahead? Several things. PARISH COURTYARD - Our next major project is a parish courtyard that will begin outside the north church entrance and will wrap around to include the front of the church. We want to start construction this summer, God willing. Last Thursday, our architect submitted plans to the city zoning commission and we are awaiting their (hopeful) approval. This will be a very difficult project, as it involves the parking lot, which involves city regulations concerning the expected amount of parking spaces. Currently, the city rule is 1 parking space for every 5 people; our church capacity is approximately 746 people and our parking lot is very limited in size. There will be no easy resolution, but we are determined to find one. I will keep you posted. PROJECT The parents of each school grade have accepted the challenge of receiving $ from the church and using it to create a fund raiser to make even more. (It is inspired by the passage from the Gospel of Matthew 25:14-30, where a man received 5 talents of silver from his master and with it earned 5 more.) So far, it has been wonderfully successful. The 2 nd grade yard sale made $ , the 4 th grade Christmas party made $ , the 7 th and 8 th grade Christmas wrapping made $490.00, and the 6 th grade pancake breakfast made $ The Third Annual O Grady Golf Tournament One again, we will be hosting this wonderful gathering of much of our parish. It will be on March 12, We will have notices in the bulletin with more information, but please mark your calendar. All the proceeds go to Renew Visitation. Jog-a thon This will be happening later this year, April 27, again with all proceeds going to Renew Visitation. As you can see, our committee and volunteers are busy, working hard to reach our goal. They will need your help, so please be generous when these events and more come around. And please continue to pray for the success of Renew Visitation! Fr. Classes are held on Sundays from 9:15 am 10:45 am. Parishioners are invited to call the office to get an appointment for an interview and place in our Baptism class which is held on the 3rd Sunday of every month in our Parish Center after attendance at the 11am Mass. RCIA OUR RCIA GROUP will continue to meet on Mondays from 7-9pm. We ask that you bring back the bottles filled or with a donation on the weekend of February This campaign and funds are used to support the Pregnancy Help Centers in the Westside and South Bay Areas. Baby items are purchased for the new mothers who are in need of help. Hotlines are available for advice and nurturing of new mothers. Please be generous to this worthy cause. Any baby food is appreciated, especially cereal and formula. Thank you in advance for your generosity. OUR MERCY BAG COLLECTION will also take place next weekend. Please include a pair of socks, toothpaste, razor, toothbrush, shaving cream, comb, mouthwash, shampoo, lip balm, conditioner, hand sanitizer, deodorant, and soap, all in a baggie. There were 38 bags donated last month. Let s see if we can double that! OUR BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP will meet starting Feb 21 from 6-8pm thru Wednesday, April 11 at Visitation School s teacher s lounge. If you have lost a loved one, the process of grieving will be discussed through prayer, scripture reading, sharing and journaling. The cost is $10 a session and you must commit to 8 sessions. Begun in 2000 by two Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Get On The Bus brings children together to visit their parents in prison for Mother s Day and Father s Day. In most cases this is the only time of year these children see their mom s and dad s. This year there will be approximately 45 buses, carrying 1000 children and over 300 caregivers. We have families traveling from West LA to Soledad Prison in June Please check out the Get On The Bus website at for more information.
