1 July 23, 2017 SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Ain t it Grand! I love our Grand Hall. As I ve watched all the activities that have happened in this space over the past couple of months, I have wondered how we ever survived without it! Grand Hall is a place where great fellowship happens. As people gather around the muffins and coffee on Sunday mornings, wonderful conversation flows and relationships are strengthened. Family and friends gather in Grand Hall to share memories and condolences before and after funerals. We ve had a bride and groom greet their family and friends for the first time as husband and wife in Grand Hall. We ve had wonderful receptions as we said goodbye to one associate pastor and hello to another. Our staff has shared lunch together around the Grand Hall tables, and the Coralwood Elementary staff celebrated the end of a great school year in this special space. Grand Hall is a place for worship. This summer we are holding our Wednesday communion services in Grand Hall. This beautiful space is perfect for this smaller worship gathering. Grand Hall has also been host to several funeral services and offers a warm, inviting place for celebrating life and resurrection. We have had Grand Hall less than a year and already it is full of memories. Grand Hall is one of our most versatile, well used spaces. As we begin to gear up for Phase II of our building program, I can t wait to see all the ministry that will be opened up through these additions, and what spaces will quickly become as indispensable as Grand Hall!

7 OAK GROVE NEWS July 23, 2017 EXTRA Building Program Includes Major Maintenance Projects A major aspect of the next part of construction is addressing critical maintenance needs. The existing office area, former library, and portico HVAC system will be replaced. In addition, the boiler in the sanctuary has reached the end of its useful life expectancy. It will be replaced. The electrical breaker panels throughout the church are manufactured by Federal Pacific. This company went bankrupt years ago, and replacement parts are not available. We will replace these breaker panels with modern boxes to improve safety and serviceability. The Fellowship Hall roof repair is complete, and the repair of the Fellowship Hall ceiling is in process. Also in Fellowship Hall, we will replace the floor, which has holes, with a product similar to the hallways in the education building. Outside, we will landscape and correct a long-standing drainage problem. Water moves from the sanctuary area to Heritage Hall, where it backs up into the building during heavy rainfalls. Underground culvert pipes will be installed to connect to the county storm water system. Grass and hardscape will be installed as needed to direct the water and improve the appearance. In addition, many areas around the church need updated landscaping, including removal of aged and overgrown trees and vegetation, and planting of new materials. In the sanctuary, we will continue with repairs and upgrades to the organ, and we will replace the pew cushions and carpet. We also know that over the next three years we will discover additional maintenance issues. We have included money in the building program to address these ongoing maintenance issues. Our financial plan for the church includes appropriating money in our operating budget to make our loan payments. Once the loans have been paid, that money will be used for ongoing maintenance, so that we can avoid creating additional deferred maintenance. All of the financial plans for the budget and our capital needs are based on a generous response to this fall s capital stewardship campaign. Addiction Help Available Oak Grove has a grant especially designated to assist people dealing with addiction or chemical dependency. If you or someone you love could benefit from addiction help, please contact Amy Morgan. Counseling Available through Oak Grove Going through a difficult time in your life? We can help!
