SYMPATHY: We express our Christian love and sympathy to Lu Cooper in the death of her sister, Candy Huye, on August 7 in New Orleans. On August 19, 2016 Fred Moser will have been a member of Lewisville UMC for 82 years! MINISTER S DISCRETIONARY FUND NEEDS REPLENISHING: It is not like me to come to you asking for assistance for the Minister's Discretionary Fund, but this summer has been demanding on the fund. We have helped mostly members and some with rather sizable amounts with rent, utilities, etc. I was advised this week that the fund is actually in the red at the current time. I have already had to turn down two requests since receiving this news. If you wish to help restock the fund, no matter how small the amount, I invite you to place a check or cash in an envelope in the offering plate and mark it clearly: MINISTER'S DISCRETIONARY FUND on the memo line of your check or on the front of an offering envelope. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide. May God bless you for caring and sharing. As is customary at LUMC, all rising third graders will receive a Bible on Promotion Sunday, August 28, during the 8:30 am and 11:00 am Worship Services (whichever service you wish to attend). In preparation for this event, we are trying to get as complete a list as possible. Please notify the church at by Wednesday, August 17, or June at to place your child s name on the list. Thanks for your PROMOTION SUNDAY: August 28. Promotion Sunday details are here! Promotion Sunday will be August 28. It will begin at 9:45 am that morning in the sanctuary. Children (age 2 by August 31, 2016 through rising sixth graders) are invited to be a part of this Promotion Sunday. Children will take part in promotion by receiving a certificate, visiting the classroom, and meeting their new teachers. Parents are asked to stay with their children during the morning s activities. Following classroom visits, everyone is invited to gather in Asbury Hall for fellowship and refreshments at 10:15 am. See you on August 28!

During the summer months, we ask that you remember that while you may be away, the activities, programs and ministries of Lewisville UMC are continuing, as well as our financial obligations. Most of our church expenses are approximately the same amount each month, even during the summer months. Just as we have to make plans for our vacation or trips during the summer, please also include your church giving in those plans. You can mail your offering in or make it up on a Sunday before you leave or after you return. Remember that ONLINE GIVING IS AVAILABLE thru our church website, and can be accessed from anywhere you have an internet connection. Thank you for your faithful giving. The Stewardship Team Vacation time is here, and the Chancel Choir is taking a well-deserved one! For the month of August they'll be sitting in the choir loft and singing the hymns with the congregation, but all the special music will be provided by others. So now's your chance to be an honorary or fulltime choir member! Anyone who might like to sit and sing with the choir on Sunday mornings is invited to do so. Just come to the choir room after Sunday School to pick up a hymnal and a bulletin for worship. Our Chancel Choir is a gifted group of people who serve our Lord each and every Sunday by leading us in worship through music. Their commitment and dedication to our church is truly a blessing! 5 Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity By Adam Hamilton Join Pastor Susan for five weeks as we explore together Adam Hamilton's study "Enough." Our first session will be held on Sunday, Sept 11th 5:00pm-6:00pm in the parlor "Enough is an invitation to rediscover the Bible's wisdom on prudent financial practices. Find the keys to experiencing contentment, overcoming fear, and discovering joy through simplicity and generosity. This book/study could change your life by changing your relationship with money." ReCONNECT 2016 Celebrating our Life Together in Christ Sunday, September 11, 2016 As summer ends and we look forward to the Fall, we invite you back after the summer vacations and times of rest and relaxation to ReCONNECT with God and our LUMC family. This special day in the life of our church will both honor those who died in the 9/11 attacks and remind us that as God s people we will not be intimidated or deterred from celebrating our life in Christ.
