1 February 21, 2016 SECOND SUNDAY IN LENT Can you imagine what it might be like to walk in the shoes of people who receive help from one of our many mission ministries? Imagine sitting on a bench outside your house in Honduras while the Oak Grove mission team pours a concrete floor in your kitchen to cover your dirt floor. Watch the faces light up with appreciation! Lenten Offering 2016 Imagine getting off the Marta bus on Lavista Road with two small children trying to find the Toco Hills food pantry behind St. Bartholomew s Episcopal Church to ask for food for your family. Imagine sitting and waiting patiently with hungry children for your number to be called at our Caring4Clarkston food pantry so your family will have food for the week. Imagine waiting in sub-freezing weather for your only good meal of the week provided by Oak Grove s Mobile Soup Kitchen for I was hungry and you gave me food (Matthew 25:35). Imagine a Burmese family of four just arriving at Hartsfield- Jackson International Airport after spending years in a Thailand Refugee camp being taken to their new home in Clarkston, completely furnished, to begin a new life in a safe, free country. Because Oak Grove cares, there is hope at the end of each of these stories. These mission ministries and others will continue through your generous donations to the Oak Grove Lenten offering. The Lenten offering provides approximately 33% of the funding needed for the mission ministries sponsored by our church. Our 2016 Lenten offering will show God s love to the world! Checks should be made payable to Oak Grove UMC and marked Lenten Offering. You can also give online ( May our growth in our Christian journey impact the lives of others through our giving. You can also "text to give" by texting the word "Lent" (case sensitive) to (see complete instructions in today's bulletin). Blessings,

Help Others by Giving Up Something One of the ways that many people observe the season of Lent is by taking on a Lenten discipline. Often this discipline is giving up something we enjoy. This Lent we invite you to give consider giving up something that costs money and donating that money to missions through our Lenten Offering. Even small amounts can really add up. For example, if you give up buying a $5 latte on the way to work each day you could accumulate $150 for missions. Our Lenten Offering funds mission ministries that meet the real needs of people. To give to the Lenten Offering, please use the special Lenten offering envelope that was mailed or pick one up at church. Checks should be made payable to Oak Grove UMC and marked Lenten Offering. Washer/Dryer Needed for Our Newest Refugee Family Oak Grove has already been such an important support to Hen and Paw Wah, the young couple who just arrived two weeks ago from a refugee camp in Thailand with their 4-year-old daughter Hae Blay. Though they do not yet speak English, an interpreter helped us learn a little more about their journey. Hen and Paw Wah met in Thailand. They are both from Burma, but Hen arrived in Thailand some time before Paw Wah. They lived in the same refugee camp in Thailand and their daughter, Hae Blay, was born in Thailand. Hen worked as a food distributor in the refugee camp and Paw Wah was studying to become a teacher. Currently, she wants to be a stay at home mother, but hopes to learn enough English some day to teach here. Hen's brother took them to a church in Covington, and they plan to visit Oak Grove in the near future! They are comfortably settled into their apartment in Clarkston thanks to your generous donations of furniture and supplies. One immediate additional need they have is for a washer-dryer. Please Angela Schaffner if you have one available to donate or sell (adschaffner@gmail.com). Thank you for your ongoing support of this important ministry!
