1 November 6, 2016 ALL SAINTS SUNDAY All Saints Sunday All Saints Sunday is a day set aside to remember and celebrate members of the Oak Grove family who have died in the last year. It is not a service of grief, but a celebration of life and the assurance of life eternal. As we gather to remember, we give thanks to God for mealtime when we gathered around a common table and for laughter that brightened days and for inspiration that gave wings to our dreams. This is a special day of celebration and life, and I look forward to seeing you in worship as we remember in all three services our loved ones. Jonathan 'Johnny" Bachman Huddle 11/23/2015 Donald G. 2 8:30 and 11 a.m. ORDER OF WORSHIP November 6, 2016 All Saints Sunday Gathering Music For All the Saints arr. Wilbur Held Tune: SARUM Welcome and Announcements (Please complete and pass the red friendship pad at this time.) Dr. Glenn Ethridge *Call to Worship Book of Worship 414 Rev. Mary Lou Gilbert Grace to you and peace from God who is, and was, and is to come. And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen. *Hymn of Praise Rejoice in God s Saints UMH 708 * Old Testament Lesson (unison) Wisdom of Solomon 3:1-9 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, And their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. For though in the sight of others they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; like gold in the furnace. He tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt-offering he accepted them. In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble. They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them for ever. Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, Because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones, and he watches over his people. Remembering Our Saints Dr. Ethridge Rev. Gilbert *Prayer for the Saints Rev. Gilbert Everliving God, revive in us memories of loved ones who have died. Remind us of happiness we shared when we walked side by side. Rekindle the joy of loving and being loved, when we lived our lives together. We see them now with the eye of memory, their faults forgiven, their virtues expanded. So does goodness live, and weakness fade from sight. We remember especially today those who were part of our congregation at Oak Grove. They cared for us, labored with us, and gave us the legacy of faith. May we carry on a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ. Create in our hearts assurance that they who died on this earth live with you, That as a great crowd of witnesses, they surround us and yet today stir our heart to prayer And song. Amen. Solo Shall We Gather at the River Traditional Mr. Andy Webb, Baritone A Morning Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Rev. Gilbert Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
