1 July 22, 2018 NINTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Help Us Pack 150,000 Meals for Hungry Kids! On August 25, Oak Grove will host a Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) mobile food Packing Event. Over the course of three two-hour shifts, 750 volunteers will work together to pack 150,000 meals. In addition to volunteers, we will need to raise $33,000. We want you to be a part of this exciting event! On two recent international mission trips our mission teams got to see Feed My Starving Children food packs being used. In Honduras, they saw the packs used to feed people with special needs who live in a care home. In Haiti, Madge and Zoe saw a pediatrician using the food packs. The doctor told them that the FMSC food was the first thing he gives to children who come in malnourished. Thank you, Oak Grove, for making food available to these two wonderful missions and many more!
2 8:30 and 11 a.m. ORDER OF WORSHIP July 22, 2018 Ninth Sunday after Pentecost Gathering Music Sicilienne Maria Theresia von Paradis Mr. Scott Morris, Guest Organist Welcome and Announcements (Please complete and pass the red friendship pad at this time) Dr. Glenn Ethridge *Hymn of Praise Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty UMH 64 *Affirmation of Faith 1 Corinthians 15:1-6 and Colossians 1:15-20 Dr. Amy Morgan This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved: Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day, and appeared first to the women, then to Peter and the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses. We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One of God, the firstborn of all creation, the firstborn from the dead, in whom all things hold together, in whom the fullness of God was pleased to dwell by the power of the Spirit. Christ is the head of the body, the church, and by the blood of the cross reconciles all things to God. Amen. A Morning Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Dr. Morgan Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Our Tithes & Offerings (8:30) Come Thou Fount from American Folk Hymn Suite Michael Burkhardt (11:00) My Jesus I Love Thee arr. Dan Forrest Ms. Stephanie Rice, Soprano My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine; For Thee all the follies of sin I resign. My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou; If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now. I love Thee because Thou has first loved me, And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree. I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow; If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now. I'll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death, And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath; And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow, If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now. In mansions of glory and endless delight, I'll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright; I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow; If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

We are seeking volunteers to create two teams of eight to 15 each for tackling our assigned projects. A master carpenter will be assigned to each team, and materials will be located at each site in preparation for our work. Breakfast and dinner will be served at the lodge while sack lunches will be provided at the work site. Our plans are to caravan on October 5th to Hayesville, work on Saturday and Sunday, then travel back to Oak Grove on Monday. What s New in the Oak Grove Library? WE HAVE ADDED MORE THAN 100 NEW BOOKS IN Here are just a few pulled from the pages of the NY Times best seller list. Calypso, by David Sedaris, is another personal and hilarious memoir by a unique and beloved writer. Visible Empire, by Hannah Pittard, is a novel based on the true story of the crash in Paris that killed more than 100 of Atlanta s elite. How Democracies Die, by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt, is a timely analysis by two Harvard professors that will make you think about where the USA is going. Lincoln s Last Trial: The Murder Trial That Propelled Him to the Presidency, by Dan Abrams, tells a riveting story as do his novels. The Sun Does Rise: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row, by Anthony Ray Hamilton, who spent nearly 30 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. This memoir tells of how he used that time to transform his spirit and those of other inmates. Born Trump, by Emily Jane Fox, is for anyone interested in learning more about the Trump family. Origin and The Lost Symbol, by Dan Brown, is his newest book for those who like complicated stories based on controversial subjects. And for the Kids: These are not necessarily new but still great and easy to read: Follow that sound!, by Melinda LaRose, is about music featuring Disney characters. The Very Fairy Princess, by Julie Andrews, is the story of Geraldine, who believes she is a fairy princess. The Very Fairy Princess: Here Comes the Flower Girl, by Julie Andrews and her daughter, follows Geraldine on more adventures. Pete the Cat, by Eric Litwin, is a charming book about a cat who stays positive no matter what he steps in. Quiet in the Garden, by Aliki, is a delightful book to introduce your child to the pleasures of the garden! The Lonely Book, by Kate Bernheimer, is similar to the Velveteen Rabbit. This book is about a neglected book and a library (so, of course, we love it)! God s Bubbly, Gurgly, Overwhelming, Overflowing Love, by Barbara Pappas, tells the Bible story from creation to Jesus with simple prose and lovely illustrations. The Family Book, by Todd Parr, is colorful and engaging. This book is about diversity. The Legend of L il Red, by Zachary Richard, is a junior fiction fable in the tradition of Aesop. It is a fun read!! Ivy + Bean, by Annie Barrows, is an easy chapter book that parents can read to their kids who are ready for longer stories.
