1 January 27, 2019 THIRD SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
2 January 27, :30 and 11a.m. ORDER OF WORSHIP Third Sunday after Epiphany Gathering Music Benedictus Qui Venit Ludwig van Beethoven arr. Allen James Welcome and Announcements (Please complete and pass the red friendship pad at this time.) Call to Worship (11:00) Praise the Lord from Judas Maccabeus G. F. Handel Chancel Choir *Hymn of Praise Love Divine, All Loves Excelling UMH 384 *Affirmation of Faith The Apostles Creed Dr. Amy Morgan I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *Gloria Patri UMH 71 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. Trio Woke Up This Morning Evelyn-Simpsom Carrington Mr. Jack Moore, Tenor; Mr. Randy Thrower, Baritone; Mr. Darryl Franklin, Baritone A Morning Prayer and The Lord s Prayer Dr. Morgan Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 3 Anthem (11:00) This Is My Father s World arr. Dan Goeller Chancel Choir Sacrament of Holy Baptism (11:00) Zachary Allen Miller Dr. Glenn Ethridge Dr. Morgan Members of the household of God, I commend Zachary to your love and care. Do all in your power to increase his faith, confirm his hope, and perfect his in love. We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we welcome you in Christian love. As members together with you in the body of Christ and in this congregation of The United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. Scripture 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 Ms. Ann Marney Because of this decision we don t evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at the Messiah that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don t look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with himself through the Messiah, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We re Christ s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God s work of making things right between them. We re speaking for Christ himself now: Become friends with God; he s already a friend with you. The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. Paraphrase from The Message Sermon All Things New: Dr. Glenn Ethridge New Purpose *Sending Hymn Christ for the World We Sing UMH 568 (Those who wish to join the church are invited to come forward.) *Benediction Dr. Ethridge *Postlude Chorale Postlude German Melody arr. Roger C. Wilson *Congregation stand as able. UMH: United Methodist Hymnal / TFWS: The Faith We Sing Large print hymnals and hearing assistance devices are available from an usher. Children s worship bags are available in the Narthex and Parlor side door. Nursery care is available in room 123.
