1 January 20, 2019 SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY Mission Events for 2019 Oak Grove s Serving Ministry has a full slate of mission events planned for These events are in addition to the ongoing missions of the church like Blessings Bags and Mobile Soup Kitchen, as well as the missions sponsored by other groups within the church. We encourage you to mark your calendar now and plan to participate in these special mission opportunities. 4 Oak Grove NEWS January 20, 2019 Board OFStewards The Board of Stewards held its inaugural meeting January 6, The Stewards approved the modified church structure and restated corporate Update by-laws and articles of incorporation. The board also approved replacing the dimmer switch in the sanctuary lighting system which has reached the end of its useful (safe) life expectancy. The board received a preview copy of a pastoral letter that will be mailed to the congregation with an update on the February 2019 General Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Board of Stewards will hold its regular meeting January 27. The board also convened as a Charge Conference to approve the corporate matters. Skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome. Project Volunteer Shifts: Saturday, January 19: 9 a.m. 1 p.m. or 1-5 p.m. Sunday, January 20: Monday, January 21: 1-5 p.m. 9 a.m. 1 p.m. or 1-5 pm Youth ages 12 and older may participate with a parent. All volunteers must complete a waiver; parents complete waivers for those ages Visit to volunteer. Groups and families should have one person register the whole team. Lunch Bunch Tuesday, February 5, 11:30 a.m. We heard the Irish tunes played and sung by these extraordinary musicians last spring, and back by popular demand, we will enjoy their LOVE SONGS on February 5, Bring your sweetheart and enjoy a tasty lunch and lovely program! Make your reservations at the church office ( ), on the website (ogumc.org), or on sign-up sheets. The $9 fee for lunch will be received at the door. UkulelE Society of Decatur For Your Convenience The ushers are here to assist you. If you have any needs, please ask an usher for help. Two restrooms are available in the Narthex. Both are unisex and easily maneuverable. One is wheelchair accessible. Other conveniences available in the Narthex include small cups and filtered water, a baby changing station, a nursing mother s chair, and hearing assistance devices. Blue hospital pads are available upon request to protect the upholstery. Each week over 100 people receive an that includes the prayer list for the week so that they can be in prayer for the folks on the list. We invite the entire congregation to pray for us as we travel to Dahlonega for a weekend full of fun and spiritual formation. Please pray for safe travels, meaningful conversations, and that God's will be done in the lives of our students! The Confirmation class of 2019 would like to commemorate this important event by doing something to give back to the Atlanta community, The Souper Bowl of Caring! Ushers Needed On Sunday, February 3, Confirmation students will hold soup pots before and after all three services, and will be asking for a monetary donation. All donations go to support local missions in our community. Please support our students and this community by graciously giving during the Souper Bowl. OGUMC has an urgent need for additional ushers. This is a great service opportunity and provides a way to meet other members. We need both male and female ushers! Blood Drive We have 4 usher teams and each team has lost several members due to age, illness, etc. The teams need a minimum of 10 ushers for the 11:00 a.m. service and 4 ushers for the 8:30 a.m. service. We like for each team to have a few more members to cover for the Sundays that ushers need to miss. Sunday, January 27 8 a.m. 1 p.m. Please stop by the LifeSouth bloodmobile in the north parking lot and give the gift of life! Bring photo ID. New Prayer Room Oak Grove s new prayer room is now ready for use. This is a great place to come for personal prayer or for a small group to gather for prayer. The new prayer room is located in room 200 (top floor of the new building at the end of the hall past the new staff offices). Each team covers 3 months during the year on a rotational basis. Basic responsibilities are to greet worshipers and provide them with a bulletin, take up the offering, and assist with Communion one Sunday in the month. Requires reporting for duty about 15 minutes before the service begins. After the service is over, ushers pick up discarded bulletins which takes about 5 minutes.
