The Latin words are taken from Exodus 3:2 and read...and yet it was not consumed. In one of his letters Samuel Rutherford reminds his correspondent, The bush has been burning these five thousand years, and no man yet saw the ashes of that fire. 6 The Lord s Supper will be served. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Our Preacher This Evening The Rev. Khen Tombing is well known to this congregation through our long association with the ministries of the Presbyterian Church in India (Reformed). Khen, through his leadership of that young denomination, has been instrumental in the planting of some 80 churches, the establishment of a number of Christian schools, the Reformed Bible Institute for training denominational leadership, and several other diaconal ministries. Among the other hats that Khen wears, he is the president of Rayburn College, now the best regarded institution of higher education in the state of Manipur with some 2,500 students. Evening Prelude Begins at 5:40 p.m. Beautiful music enlivens our spirits and adds to our Sabbath joy. Each Sunday evening prior to the worship service, musicians begin to play or sing at 5:40 p.m. Calling All Men Night of Prayer This Friday For many years we have scheduled a night of prayer on the Friday night/early Saturday morning before Reformation Sunday. This year it will be held this Friday, October 28th beginning at 9:00 pm and running to 3:00 am, an evening of readings, food and fellowship, and extended periods of prayer. We warmly welcome all the men of the congregation to attend for as much of the time as may be possible. One is always glad to have gone! All Hallows' Eve Bash 2016 Faith Presbyterian will host the All Hallows' Eve Bash 2016 at Wells Hall, Christ Episcopal Church in Tacoma on Saturday, October 29 th from 12:00pm-4:00pm. The theme is Under the Big Top: A Circus Festival. Prizes will be awarded for the following: Best family themed costume, Best youth under 14 boy costume, Best male costume, Best youth under 14 girl costume &Best female costume. The prize for best family themed costume will be a Christmas tree certificate this year. There will be tickets at the door for food and games booths, and there will be competitions for the active folks: tug-of-war, potato sack race and a dress-up relay race. For all those asking about the Contra Dance portion of our festival this year, it is on! Please know that this event is for ALL ages. There is something for everyone! Summer's coming! Family Fun Luncheon Sunday, November 13th We'll enjoy a summer lunch, happy-go-lucky entertainment and games, and perhaps even have Ned turn up the heat in the building. Sign-ups to attend will be October 30th and November 6th. You will have opportunities to help, including bringing your favorite summer salad (cole slaw, potato salad, fruit, green, it's your choice!), and sending in your family's summer photos for a fantastic slideshow of sunshiny fun! The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) "Sinatra and Solomon. The Great American Songbook and the Great Hebrew Songbook. This class led by Robert Case is an exegetical look at the romance of the Song of Songs illuminated by the best American popular songs of the 20 th century. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) The high school class continues in its series on 1&2 Samuel. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) This class led by Tim Bentson and Andrew Milton is going through The Gospel of John: Who is Jesus, an ESL Bible study by J. Wesley Eby and Robert D. Troutman. Choristers Rehearsals Now Underway Each Wednesday Choristers meet each Wednesday evening, 7:00 to 8:15, under Melissa McMillan s direction. To register your treble-voiced child (ages 7 +), sign up at the FPCMusic table in the narthex. Choristers next sing in the morning worship services on October 30 as well as at the Thanksgiving Service. Handel's Christmas Messiah at FPC on December 4, 6:00 p.m. Our evening worship on the second Sunday of Advent will be the singing of Messiah by the 40-voice ACM Festival Choir, and soloists Rachael Kim, soprano, Gwen Trussler, alto, Ross Hauck, tenor, and Daniel Roberts, bass. Invite your friends now to enjoy this evening of rich music and worship of our Lord Jesus Christ that climaxes with the Hallelujah Chorus! Young Musicians: ACM Recital Competition Saturday, April 1, 2017 Young musicians and their parents are invited to benefit from a generous purse of scholarship awards for continuing music education. Registration opens online December 1, For students, ages 8 19, currently taking music lessons on piano, woodwind, strings, and brass. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer each week: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Starbucks in Old Town Tacoma, 2112 North 30th at 6:00 am. This meeting, which originated six years ago has continuously focused on the Psalms. Thursday morning with Thom Wilson at 6:30 am at the church. Join us in reading and digesting Richard Hannula's Heralds of the Reformation as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. A Reminder about Parking As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park on the south side of South 8th Street, on South Winnifred Street behind the church, or where the curb is painted yellow. Thank you. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room.

8 Meals on Wheels The purpose of Meals on Wheels is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, or the arrival of newborns. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office. More participants are needed. If you would like to serve in this ministry (usually no more than one or two times per year) please contact Kathy or Alisha to be added to the roster. Thank you! Women to Women Ministry There is a ministry of mentoring by women to women here at Faith. If you would like to meet with a woman for this purpose, you may contact Debbie Mellott and she will put you in touch with one of the women providing this ministry.
