It is derived from Hebrews 6:19: We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul... When combined with a cross it makes plain that Christian hope is in Christ and His redemption. The Lord s Supper will be served. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Evening Prelude Begins at 5:40 p.m. Beautiful music enlivens our spirits and adds to our Sabbath joy. Each Sunday evening prior to the worship service, musicians begin to play or sing at 5:40 p.m. Abraham, Christiana and Teresa Sullivan will play several selections. Family Fun Luncheon Today! Olive Crest Orphan Sunday Today A representative from Olive Crest is available in the narthex after the morning services today with a display to raise awareness of the need for more families to come alongside orphans in our area. Olive Crest is a private foster care agency who served over 400 foster children in the last year, placing them in 350 foster

7 homes throughout Western Washington. Stop by to get information on how you may be involved in this effort to defend the fatherless and orphans. Special Offering We are pleased to report that $18,988 was raised at the offering Sunday evening, October 23 rd for the construction of the building at the Reformed Bible Institute in Manipur, India. Women in the Church Meeting - Thursday, November 17 th, 7:00 pm Attention to All Ladies, junior high and older: Our next Women in the Church Meeting will held Thursday, Nov. 17th, at 7:00 pm. If you can, come at 6:30 pm to help put together Harvest Baskets and enjoy refreshments and fellowship. We ll be hearing Anne Bruce s testimony and Travel Talk with Sally Lethbridge. Special music, a book report and a missionary update will round out our evening. If you haven t already, now s the time to bring items, especially baked goods, to fill the Harvest Baskets. Thanksgiving Day Service and Offering Our Thanksgiving Day service is on November 24 th at 10:00 am and will last for one hour. It is a service of hymns, testimonies, and the Lord s Supper. Come prepared to offer your own public thanksgivings to the Lord and to rejoice with others in theirs. We will also take our annual Thanksgiving Day offering for our own Presbyterian Church in America Mercy Ministries, through the Mission to North America Committee. This offering provides valuable financial support to men and women who are training for ministry leadership among the many people groups who are largely unreached by the Presbyterian Church in America. Through the Thanksgiving Offering supported by PCA churches and individual members, you have the opportunity to invest in future leaders of the denomination and the opportunity to provide valuable resources for the advancement of the Gospel. Sacred Road Christmas Gifts It s time again to begin collecting gifts for the Hope Fellowship Christmas service at Sacred Road Ministries on the Yakama Indian Reservation. This year we are collecting Disney gifts for the girls and Super Hero gifts for the boys. For the junior and senior high youth we are collecting cash donations for custom-designed Youth Group sweatshirts. Wal-Mart gift cards in any denomination are also welcome. Gifts may be placed, unwrapped, in the box in the narthex. Cash donations and Wal-Mart gift cards should be given to Sean or Margo Kelly, or to Phil or Evelyn German. The deadline to donate is Thanksgiving Day, November 24th. The Fight of Your Life: December 3, am-12pm THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE is an effective, preventative program for men of every age (16 years and older) who desire to live a life of sexual integrity and high moral character. Given the overwhelming prevalence of sexual struggles in our culture and the church, we have invited Greg Miller from Faithful &True for a seminar on sexual faithfulness on Saturday, December 3rd. Faithful &True is an internationally known center for sexual healing, headquartered in Minneapolis. Dr. Greg Miller will teach you how to become the man that God intends all men to be. Dr. Mark Laaser will also be featured at the event via pre-recorded video. As part of the weekend, Joshua and Bryonie Moon will also be coming to share their story of hope and healing. The Saturday is for all men who struggle themselves, who know others who struggle, who are

8 raising children in our culture, or who simply desire to be better informed for one of the central battles of our day. Joshua and Bryonie will be speaking during Sunday School, open to both men and women. Tickets will be on sale through the month of November in the Narthex following morning worship. Join us in the WIC Room, 117. You don't need a copy of the book. The Women of Faith Class II (Room 301) We are studying together the book of Luke. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) We will be exploring themes of "The Gospel, Buddhism, and Culture." Pew and the BBC have noted that, while Christianity continues to decline for white mainstream Americans, Buddhism and Eastern philosophy has seen an exponential increase in popularity. In our changing landscape in the PNW, how can we understand and engage these trends? In this three-part series, we will explore the broad topics of Culture (what is it and do I have one?), East-West points of (dis)continuity (Wait, are they weird, or am I weird?), and Buddhism: It's Adherents and Beliefs. In these three classes we will ask, "What does the Gospel say about these things?" and "How does this apply to me?" There will be ample time allotted for discussion and Q&A in each class. Recommended pre-reading (not required): Cultural Intelligence by David Livermore, PhD. This class is led by Daniel Murphree. Choristers Rehearsals Now Underway Each Wednesday Choristers meet each Wednesday evening, 7:00 to 8:15, under Melissa McMillan s direction. To register your treble-voiced child (ages 7 +), sign up at the FPCMusic table in the narthex. Choristers next sing at the Thanksgiving Service. Handel's Christmas Messiah at FPC on December 4, 6:00 p.m. Our evening worship on the second Sunday of Advent will be the singing of Messiah by the 40-voice ACM Festival Choir under Ron Bechtel's direction, and soloists Rachael Kim, soprano, Gwen Trussler, alto, Ross Hauck, tenor, and Daniel Roberts, bass. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer each week: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Starbucks in Old Town Tacoma, 2112 North 30th at 6:00 am. This meeting, which originated six years ago has continuously focused on the Psalms. Thursday morning with Thom Wilson at 6:30 am at the church. Join us in reading and digesting Richard Hannula's Heralds of the Reformation as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. A Reminder about Parking As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park on the south side of South 8th Street, on South Winnifred Street behind the church, or where the curb is painted yellow. Thank you. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. Meals on Wheels The purpose of Meals on Wheels is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, or the arrival of newborns. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office. More participants are needed. If you would like to serve in this ministry (usually no more than one or two times per year) please contact Kathy or Alisha to be added to the roster. Thank you! Women to Women Ministry There is a ministry of mentoring by women to women here at Faith. If you would like to meet with a woman for this purpose, you may contact Debbie Mellott and she will put you in touch with one of the women providing this ministry.
