4 Sermon The Testament of Jacob The Lord s Supper The general order of communion will be back to front, with balcony coming first. As minister begins to serve those distributing elements, that is your signal to come forward. However, individuals may commune at any time during distribution of elements. Wine will be found in outside tray, grape juice in inside tray. If you need to be served in your pew, please notify an elder or deacon. Gluten free bread is available upon request. You are welcome to participate in Lord s Supper if you are a baptized Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member or adherent of this or some or congregation, recognized as belonging to fellowship of Christian believers. If this does not describe you, we are glad you are here and commend to you this prayer for your use during time of Lord s Supper. O Heavenly Far, teach me to see that if Christ has pacified you and satisfied divine justice he can also deliver me from my sins; that Christ does not desire me, now justified, to live in selfconfidence in my own strength, but gives me law of Spirit of life to enable me to obey you; that Spirit and his power are mine by resting on Christ s death; that Spirit of Life within answers to law without; that if I sin not I should thank you for it; that if I sin I should be humbled daily under it; that I should mourn for sin more than or men do, for when I see I shall die because of sin, that makes me mourn; when I see how sin strikes at you, that makes me mourn; when I see that sin caused Christ s death, that makes me mourn; that sanctification is evidence of reconciliation, proving that faith has truly apprehended Christ; You have taught me that faith is nothing else than receiving your kindness; that it is an adherence to Christ, a resting on him, love clinging to him as a branch to tree. Faith Presbyterian Church Advent Devotional The Faith Presbyterian Church Advent Family Devotions Booklet is available in Narx today. You may also access devotional online at our church website. Click on Information tab, n Bible Reading and Advent Family Devotions. An Experiment in Streaming Our Services Through end of this year and services will be livestreamed. In or words, one can go to church s website (faithtacoma.org), hit Live! button and view service as it takes place. Obviously, this is an advantage to those who might not orwise be able to be present with us. We have already had individuals both out of state and out of country take advantage of this opportunity. Questions remain, however, and service is not free; so we will reevaluate at end of year. Questions or comments may be addressed to church office, Mr. Lawty or one of elders. Women in Church Annual Christmas Brunch On Saturday, December 2nd, Women in Church will be hosting our Annual Women s Christmas Brunch. The Roberts Family will dazzle us with ir musical talent. And The Gourmet Niche will cater our event. Our speaker, Dana Skogen, hails from Tacoma area. She met her husband, Kevin, while y were attending PLU. In 1984 Kevin and Dana began attending Faith and Kevin was called to be a pastor through ministry of Faith. Kevin was first associate pastor we had in early 1990s. They have six grown children, all married: four sons who are or were in seminary, two daughters, and 15 grandchildren. Currently, Kevin is pastoring Sandhills Presbyterian Church in Sourn Pines, NC and Dana, in addition to being a busy grandma, is teaching kindergarten. Dana s message to us will be, Beauty: Building on a Firm Foundation. Brunch tickets will be available on Sunday, November 19 & 26 for $20. The traditional Tour of Tables will begin at 10:30 followed by catered Brunch at 11:00. Ladies, please sign up to hostess a table; you ll receive a free ticket and instructions. Men (high school age or older), we would love to have you as our wonderful waiters. You will get to enjoy food and program for your efforts. Please sign up and receive your instructions. 9 Thanksgiving Day Service and Offering Our Thanksgiving Day service is this Thursday, November 23 rd at 10:00 am and will last for one hour. It is a service of hymns, testimonies, and Lord s Supper. Come prepared to offer your own public thanksgivings to Lord and to rejoice with ors in irs. We will also take our annual Thanksgiving Day offering for our own Presbyterian Church in America Mercy Ministries, through Mission to North America Committee. This offering provides valuable financial support to men and women who are training for ministry leadership among many people groups who are largely unreached by Presbyterian Church in America. Through Thanksgiving Offering supported by PCA churches and individual members, you have opportunity to invest in future leaders of denomination and opportunity to provide valuable resources for advancement of Gospel. Special Choral Event to Begin Advent The ACM Festival Choir will present Gloria, that superb choral masterwork by Antonio Vivaldi, on Sunday evening, December 3, 6:00 p.m. Soloists: Margaret Eby and Melissa McMillan. Accompanists: Maddie Lee, piano; Anna Hastings, piano; Nicolas Roberts, cello. Director: Ron Bechtel. Sacred Road Christmas Gifts This Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, is last opportunity to donate Christmas gifts for children of Hope Fellowship Church on Yakama Indian Reservation. Stop by table in Narx TODAY and pick up a list of suggested items to purchase. The Sacred Road staff will use our gifts to fill shoe boxes that will be handed out at church Christmas celebration in December. Place gifts, unwrapped in box in narx. Sunday School Seminar: State of (Dis)Union Over past few years, racial reconciliation has grown in importance for our denomination s leaders; visible in colorful discussion around 2016 General Assembly s statement on historical racism. This class is an orientation around issues of race, racism, and reconciliation in society, evangelicalism, and PCA. We will be meeting in conference room on first floor beginning December 3 rd. Homework (media clips, short articles, documentaries) will be a vital component for discussion, and as a seminarstyle class, discussion will be encouraged. Space is limited; RSVP to Daniel Murphree. Genesis 39 Sunday School, Next Lord s Day All men of congregation (5 th graders to senior citizens) will meet in sanctuary for monthly Sunday school class sponsored by Genesis 39 ministry of our congregation. Elder Don Mellott will be speaking on farhood. Ladies and high school age girls will meet in DeSoto Hall. Sandy Milton will address class on mindfulness. Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (WIC Room 117) We are reading and discussing Dick Hannula s book, Heralds of Reformation: Thirty Biographies of Sheer Grace. In Fall of 2017 we celebrated 500th anniversary of Reformation, so what better subject to cover than story of struggle between ological authorities and men and women who refused to keep quiet about sheer grace of Gospel. Please join us. You don t need a copy of book.

The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) Esr is not Yester Politics Matters A Sunday School class on a new phrase by phrase commentary on book of Esr by Robert Case. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) Pastor Nicoletti and high school class continue ir yearlong study of Dante s Divine Comedy. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) This class led by Kathy Lewis is reading aloud The Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Study guides and copies of book are provided free for class attendees. Choristers Rehearsals Underway Choristers meet each Wednesday evening, 7:00 to 8:15, under Melissa McMillan s direction. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week: MondayFriday mornings Fit for Cross devotions with Jim Roland, 5:30 am at church, Room 304. Come to North door of church. Any questions call Jim. Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town Anm coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of ancient church fars, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book ( Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn way to remedy your ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at church. Join us in studying through books of Ezra and Nehemiah as we pray for our concerns and world around us. Please note that we are on a break and will resume meeting on December 21. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, wher single or married, to do life toger throughout week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We currently have two established groups: one that meets on Tuesday at Caleb and Tamala Bestvater s home at 7 pm and one that meets on Thursday at Nate and Rachael Shelden s home at 6:30 pm.
