Tonight, Chapter 8 and the vision of the ram and the goat. The Lord s Supper will be served. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Evening Prelude Begins at 5:40 p.m. Beautiful music enlivens our spirits and adds to our Sabbath joy. Each Sunday evening prior to the worship service, musicians begin to play or sing at 5:40 pm. Sarah Fary, soprano, and Ruth Bechtel, piano, will present two hymn arrangements. Women In the Church Meeting - Thursday, February 16 th, 7:00 pm Attention to All Ladies, junior high and older: Our next Women In the Church Meeting will be held this Thursday, Feb. 16th, at 7:00 pm. We ll be hearing Emily Downie s testimony and an update from missionary to Burma, April Murphree. We ll also enjoy a book report, special music, and will be giving away a door prize. Join us for refreshments and a fun evening of fellowship! Please contact Debbie Mellott if you will need childcare. Deacon Work Party February 18 th There is a work party scheduled for Saturday, February 18 from 8:30 am 12 noon. It will be helping the homes of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz. Save the Date Couples Retreat, March 9-11, 2017 The annual Couples Retreat is March 9-11 at Lake Quinault Lodge. Room prices may vary. We will have more information next week in the bulletin and the TNT. We have 25 rooms blocked at this point. CHS Principal Transition The Covenant High School board is delighted to report that David Miller has accepted the position of CHS principal. He has been a Christian from earliest childhood and raised in a Christian family. Mr. Miller is a 2005 graduate of Wheaton College with a B.A. in Communication and Media Studies. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Northwest University in Kirkland, and he is currently working on a Masters in Theological Studies from Covenant Theological Seminary. For several years, Dave was

7 a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church (PCA), a church of our presbytery in Redmond, Washington. For the past eleven years, Mr. Miller has been a junior high and high school rhetoric and history teacher at The Bear Creek School in Redmond, a classical Christian school. For the last three years, he has been mentored in school administration by the Head of School, preparing himself for a school leadership role. Mr. Miller and his wife Lauren have one child, an eight-month-old daughter named Selah. We look forward to Mr. Miller taking up his duties at CHS on August 1, Mr. Hannula will continue to teach his courses at CHS for the next several years, and he will continue to lead the UK/France tour. He will also assist Mr. Miller in some administrative duties as needed. Vacation Bible School is Back! We are so excited to announce Vacation Bible School this summer from July 10-14! This year we are Upward Bound! The adventure-filled Bible lessons lead Backpackers through the gospel of Luke, following Jesus incarnate journey from the Courts of Heaven to the cross on earth, then back again to his heavenly Summit. Our VBS is for kids age 4 through 5th grade (completed). It will begin at 8:45 am and end at 12 pm. There will be a nursery provided and possibly a class for 2 s and 3 s depending on volunteers. If you are available on these dates, please consider volunteering. Heidi Bone if you would like to participate in some way. More specific details about volunteer opportunities are coming soon! There will also be info available on Facebook page Faith Tacoma VBS Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (WIC Room 117) We are reading Mindy Belz book They Say We Are Infidels. Join us in the WIC Room, 117. You don t need a copy of the book. The Women of Faith Class II (Room 301) We are studying together the book of Luke. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) We continue in our series of studies on Jesus kingdom parables with Dr. Robert Rogland. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) The high school class continues in its series on 1&2 Samuel. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) This class led by Andrew Milton is going through The Life of Jesus Christ: The Gospel of Mark, an ESL Bible study by J. Wesley Eby. Foundations Class to Begin Next Lord s Day Pastor Rayburn will begin the Foundations Class for those new to the church during the Sunday School hour on February 19 th. This class covers the most fundamental teachings of our Christian Faith and introduces the distinctive elements of the Presbyterian tradition. Choristers Rehearsals Now Underway Each Wednesday Choristers meet each Wednesday evening, 7:00 to 8:15. To register your treblevoiced child (ages 7 +), contact Melissa Mc Millan. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer each week: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town MarKee coffee shop

8 at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy your ill. Thursday morning with Thom Wilson at 6:30 am at the church. Join us in reading and digesting Richard Hannula s Heralds of the Reformation as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. A Reminder about Parking As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park on the south side of South 8th Street, on South Winnifred Street behind the church, or where the curb is painted yellow. Thank you. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. Hearing Assistance If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see a Deacon. Explanation of the Cover Symbol The anchor is an ancient Christian symbol for hope. It is derived from Hebrews 6:19: We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul... When combined with a cross it makes plain that Christian hope is in Christ and His redemption. The symbol was frequently used in this sense in the catacombs of ancient Rome.
