Our spiritual fathers in their pilgrimage walked by y guidance, and trusted in y compassion; continue to be to their children the cloud by day and the fire by night. Where but in you have a shelter from the storm or a shadow from the heat of life? In many temptations, you alone know and are always near. In sorrow, y pity revives the fainting soul; in prosperity and ease, it is y Spirit alone that can preserve us in humility. 4 *Confession of Faith Q. What is y only comfort in life and in death? A. That I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him. Matthew 6:913 (KJV) Scripture Lesson Psalm 27:114 (ESV p. 460) Sermon Deep Feeling The Lord s Supper The general order of communion will be back to front, with the balcony coming first. As the minister begins to serve those distributing the elements, that is y signal to come forward. Hover, individuals may commune at any time during the distribution of the elements. Wine will be found in the outside tray, grape juice in the inside tray. If you need to be served in y pew, please notify an elder or deacon. Gluten free bread is available upon request. You are lcome to participate in the Lord s Supper if you are a baptized Christian, a follor of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member or adherent of this or some other congregation, recognized as belonging to the fellowship of Christian believers. If this does not describe you, are glad you are here and commend to you this prayer for y use during the time of the Lord s Supper. Lord Jesus, you say that you and you alone are the way, the truth, and the life. You lcome all who are ary and burdened to come to you and promise to give them rest. You also say that those who come to you must be prepared to follow you, even at great cost. Help me, Lord Jesus, to believe what you say and to resolve to follow you

5 whatever the cost. There are reasons enough for me to come to you. I admit that I am a sinner, more sinful than I ever dared to admit. But in you I find a greater love than I ever dared hope for. Thank you for y suffering and death in the place of sinners to pay their debt. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and confess you, Jesus Christ, as my Savior and my Lord. Amen. XP, the first two letters of the Greek Christ, is an abbreviation of the name of the Lord. This symbol is often, as here, accompanied with other symbols, in this case Alpha and Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. The symbol originates from Revelation 22:13: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. (cf. Revelation 1:8, 17; 21:6). This particular symbol dates from the first few centuries of the Christian era and is often found on tombs.

Annual Congregational Meeting & Dinner At the annual Congregational Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 23 rd, in addition to the reports you are accustomed to receiving and the explanation of next year s budget, the congregation will be asked to approve Pastor Rayburn s call as Pastor Emeritus. Next C3 Ministries Training this Saturday, January 5; 8:30 11 am C3 Ministries (Comfort and care, in community) equips and empors us the congregation of Faith Presbyterian to be the instruments of God s care and comfort for brethren and community in a variety of settings and circumstances. C3 Ministries preparation will emphasize these practical ways to give care and comfort: Building Relationships Entering into Grief Understanding Poverty Recognizing Status (race, foreigner, etc.) If you d like to participate in this ministry, contact: Andrew or Sandy Milton Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (Room 117) Martyrs and Missionaries and the Persecuted Church: In this Sunday School class are reading stories and books about past and current missionaries and persecuted Christians around the world. We want to be aware of the plight of the persecuted church of today and to pray for them regularly. The Women of Faith Class II (Covenant High School Office) We are studying together the book Union with Christ by Rankin Wilbne. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) Elder Mike Pfefferle continues his fascinating and very valuable introduction to early Christianity. Foundations Class (Room 301) Pastor Rayburn continues his Foundations class particularly for folks new to Faith Presbyterian, new to the Reformed Church or new to the faith. High School Sunday School (North Side of DeSoto Hall) Pastor Nicoletti and the high school class continue the second unit of their ongoing study of Dante s Divine Comedy: Dante s Purgatorio: An Allegorical Study of Repentance. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) Kathy Lewis facilitates the Better English class where individual American partners help each international who wishes to read or discuss material at an appropriate level of English. 10 Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each ek: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town Anthem coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever y particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy y ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the Book of Acts as pray for concerns and the world around us. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to do life together throughout the ek and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are ekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We have one group that meets on Thursdays at Nate and Rachel Shelden s home at 6:30, and another group that meets on Tuesdays at Isaac and Elsie Dye s home at 6:30. For more details, or if you re interested in joining a C&C Community Group, please contact one of us and ll help you get connected! Meals on Wheels The purpose of Meals on Wheels is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, adoption or childbirth. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office. Meal needs will be requested via TNT (This n That), the church s announcement system. To receive TNT s, please contact the church office. Thank you! Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for y convenience during all Worship Services.
