The Lord s Supper will be served. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Our Preacher This Morning We are delighted to have in the pulpit this morning the Reverend John Rug, long-time Mission to the World church planter in Chile. This congregation has supported the Rugs throughout their 30+ years of service in Latin America. John, who is blind himself, has also developed a very fruitful ministry to the disabled called CEMIPRE, a foundation that, having begun in Chile, has now spread to other parts of Latin America. John and his wife Cathy are here this weekend and Lord s Day in particular to be present at the Elsie Matsuda & Isaac Dye wedding. The Rugs served with the Dye family for years in Viña del Mar. John will give us an update on his ministry and the church in Chile during the adult Sunday School hour. Evening Prelude Begins at 5:40 p.m. Beautiful music enlivens our spirits and adds to our Sabbath joy. Each Sunday evening prior to the worship service, musicians begin to play or sing at 5:40 pm.

6 Dr. Hugo vandooren Memorial Service Tomorrow All are invited to the memorial service for Dr. vandooren to be held here at Faith Presbyterian, tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow in DeSoto Hall. Nominations for the Office of Deacon The following men have been nominated and have been approved to stand by the session: Scott Bennett, Caleb Bestvater, Colin James, Sean Kelly, William Brodersen, Nate Shelden, Kirk McMillan, Jonathan Nichols, Eric Knight, Chad Isenberger, and Nathan Sukhia. Training will follow through the summer and early autumn. An election will be scheduled as soon as the training is complete. Need to Return or Renew Church Library Materials? We have a large volume of material checked out from the church library, much of it out for longer than the suggested month. Would you take a few moments to check bookcases, backpacks, etc. for church library materials that need to be returned or renewed? You are welcome to renew library material; just come into the library and fill out a renewal slip. To return library material we have a bin in the library or a drop box in the old narthex. Thank you. A Thank you and Bridal Tea Party Our own Jonathan Scharer is marrying Miss Hannah Breckenridge from our sister church Evergreen in Beaverton this August. Hannah would like to honor the ladies at Faith with a thank you tea party for all the love and care they have shown to Jonathan over the years and for all the faithful prayers for them since their engagement including Hannah s recent surgery. In turn, let us shower this lovely Bride-to-be with things for the new home they will be making. The Tea Party will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 15 th in DeSoto Hall. Group gift contributions can be given to Paige Price. Please sign the attendance sheet in the narthex by July 9 th so the right number of delectable delights and party favors can be made. Genesis 39 Orientation for Jr High Fathers & Their Sons The committee would like to invite you to an orientation today during the Sunday School hour in room 301. Now that your son is of age to join you at our meetings, we thought it important to orient him to our initiative. Pastor DeMass will give an age appropriate presentation. We will consider the topic from the vantage point of Creation (good gift given), Fall (good gift spoiled), Redemption (good gift recovered), and Consummation (good gift completed). Hope to see you there! Upward Bound Vacation Bible School Set Up Day & Decoration Needs Come to the church on Saturday, July 8th from 9:00-12:00pm to help transform Faith Presbyterian into an amazing alpine forest for our backpacking themed Vacation Bible School this summer! We will also have a bit of decorating to do Sunday night after the evening service on the 9th and could use some extra hands. There will be all kinds of things to do, including heavy lifting, so we re counting on getting some guys to haul around the big stuff! We are still in need of your gear and forestry decor - tents, tarps, lanterns, backpacks, sleeping bags, camping chairs for adults and kids, ropes, carabiners, binoculars, canoes, oars, camouflage netting, trees and foliage (fake or real). And if anyone by any chance has an adult bear costume, that would really be awesome! If you have some things you d like to lend us, please contact Teri Bentson at teribentston@yahoo.com. Newly Graduated Seniors BBQ College and Career s Tuesday Group would like to celebrate the next phase of your life dubbed College and Career. If you just graduated High School, come hang out with us, eat hot dogs and hamburgers, and let us get to know you better as peers. The party will be on July 5, 2017 at 7:00 pm

7 and will be at Tamala & Caleb Bestvater s home. Hopefully after getting to know us better, you will be interested in joining our group. For our summer schedule, we will be meeting as a group every other week on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm. At these meetings, we enjoy a meal together, hang out, pray, and discuss topics that encourage and strengthen us in our faith. This summer, our discussion leaders will be focusing on issues facing young adults in an increasingly post-christian world, particularly in relation to being faithful while at University. If you are typically busy on Tuesdays, please feel free to attend C&C s Thursday group at Nate & Rachel Shelden s. Christian Education Assistance Covenant High School has been a ministry of Faith Presbyterian for more than two decades, based on the conviction that a Christian education is an important means of discipling our children in the fundamentals of our faith and instilling in them a love for Christ and the Scriptures. At Covenant, each subject is taught with the highest possible standards for excellence and with the open acknowledgement that God is Lord of this area of study as well as any other. Whether history, mathematics, science or literature, God is sovereign and working out the advancement of His kingdom on this earth using fallible people for His glory. Other Christian schools exist in our community, founded under similar convictions, and like Covenant have served the needs of our families. The officers at Faith Presbyterian do not want the necessary tuition for Christian schooling to be an insurmountable obstacle for a member to enroll their child. While it is a hardship and sacrificial activity to support a child through Christian schooling for nearly every family, the deacons invite families who feel the amount of tuition impossible to bear to sit down with Jason Van Gilder and Micah Tamminga to request assistance with this task. Please contact the church office to set up a meeting with these men at the earliest possible convenience. Pastoral Search Committee The committee is soliciting comments from the congregation about characteristics and qualities the members want to see in the new senior pastor. We are also interested in seeing any names you want to suggest to the committee. We have a special box search@faithtacoma.org to submit your suggestions, or you may talk to one of the committee members. Messages sent to the address will be accessible to all the committee members. Adult Sunday School All Adult Classes will meet in the sanctuary today for a report from the Reverend John Rug on his ministry and the church in Chile. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) The high school class continues in its series on 1&2 Samuel. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) This new class led by Kathy Lewis will be reading aloud The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Study guides and copies of the book are provided free for class attendees. Sing Bach s Cantata on A Mighty Fortress on November 3 Today (4:30 p.m.) FPC s Adult Choir continues rehearsal on a special Reformation masterwork by J. S. Bach. Want to sing? Contact Florence Rayburn. Performance of this cantata is slated for FPC s Reformation 500 celebration on November 3. Vivaldi s Gloria: Music for Advent, December 3 Rehearsals for the timeless oratorio, Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi will begin on September 12 and succeeding Tuesdays through November. 8 Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week: Monday-Friday mornings Fit for the Cross devotions with Jim Roland, 5:30 am at the church, Room 304. Come to the North door of the church. Any questions call Jim. Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town MarKee coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy your ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the books of Ezra and Nehemiah as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to do life together throughout the week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We currently have two established groups: one that meets on Tuesday at Caleb and Tamala Bestvater s home at 7 pm and one that meets on Thursday at Nate and Rachael Shelden s home at 6:30 pm. Meals on Wheels The purpose of Meals on Wheels is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, adoption or childbirth. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office. More participants are needed. If you would like to serve in this ministry please contact Kathy or Alisha to be added to the roster. Specific meal needs will be requested via TNT (This n That), the church s announcement system. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. Hearing Assistance If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see a Deacon. Explanation of the Cover Symbol Since the time of the Reformation, the burning bush has been a symbol of the Church. The Latin words are taken from Exodus 3:2 and read...and yet it was not consumed.
