1 Lord s Day January 8, :15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Cover Symbol No. 2 - The Anchor Explanation of the Cover Symbol The anchor is an ancient Christian symbol for hope. It is derived from Hebrews 6:19: We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul... When combined with a cross it makes plain that Christian hope is in Christ and His redemption. Next is Chapter 4 and Another Dream Disturbs Nebuchadnezzar s Sleep. The Lord s Supper will be served. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Evening Prelude Begins at 5:40 p.m. Beautiful music enlivens our spirits and adds to our Sabbath joy. Each Sunday evening prior to the worship service, musicians begin to play or sing at 5:40 pm. Music this evening will be presented by Sarah Fary and Ruth Bechtel. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) We continue in our series of studies on Jesus' kingdom parables with Dr. Robert Rogland. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) The high school class continues in its series on 1&2 Samuel. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) This class led by Andrew Milton is going through The Life of Jesus Christ: The Gospel of Mark, an ESL Bible study by J. Wesley Eby. byoi (Bring Your Own Instrument) - Community Hymn Sing, February 3 Everyone is invited to bring their own instruments (including the vocal instrument endowed to everyone) to the first of three hymn singing events, Friday evening, February 3, 7:00 p.m., FPC sanctuary. No rehearsal will be held, but we need an instrument count. We're hoping to fill the platform with musical instruments, the pews with vocal instruments, and the house with praise to the Lord. The musical theme for this first event centers on two of the five "solas" of the Protestant Reformation: "Sola Scriptura" and "Sola Gratia." (Similar events in June and October are a part of this year's celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.) Choristers Rehearsals Now Underway Each Wednesday Choristers meet each Wednesday evening, 7:00 to 8:15, under Melissa McMillan s direction. To register your treble-voiced child (ages 7 +), sign up at the FPCMusic table in the narthex. Rehearsals resume on January 11. Audition Deadline is February 3 for Annual ACM Scholarship Recital Competition Young Christian musicians and their parents are invited to benefit from a generous purse of scholarship awards for continuing music education. Competition is Saturday, April 1, Register online with audition video and application, For Christian students, ages 8 19, actively involved in a Christian church and currently taking music lessons on piano, woodwind, strings, and brass. Cash prizes total nearly $2,500. Dr. Yelena Balabanova will serve as the primary adjudicator. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer each week: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Starbucks in Old Town Tacoma, 2112 North 30th at 6:00 am. This meeting, which originated six years ago has continuously focused on the Psalms. Thursday morning with Thom Wilson at 6:30 am at the church. Join us in reading and digesting Richard Hannula's Heralds of the Reformation as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. Meals on Wheels The purpose of Meals on Wheels is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, adoption or childbirth. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office. More participants are needed. If you would like to serve in this ministry please contact Kathy or Alisha to be added to the roster. Specific meal needs will be requested via TNT (This 'n' That), the church's announcement system.
