2 CHRISTMAS EVE WORSHIP December 24, :00 ORGAN PRELUDE Christmas Is Here Dale Wood *OPENING HYMN AND PROCESSION O Come, O Come Emmanuel Pg. 211 *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: In those days a decree went out that a census should be taken. And Joseph went up from Nazareth to Bethlehem to be registered there with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have the baby. People: We, too, want to be counted among God s chosen people. Tonight we have come from our homes to this Holy place. Jesus will soon be born again; now the time has come for us to receive him. *OPENING PRAYER All: O God of love, you have brought us together tonight and blessed us with your very self. Open our eyes to the light of Christ which glows in the darkness of a world engulfed in apathy, pain and loss; a world separated from you. Speak to us now that we may hear the good news of your salvation. Bring us into the wonder of your presence. Fill us with that light and carry it out with us into our lives. Amen. *HYMN O Little Town of Bethlehem Pg. 230 LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE Leader: With this lighting of the Christ Candle we rejoice with prophets, angels, and Mary and Joseph in welcoming Christ! People: Our hope has arrived! Leader: Thank you God, for sending us your Son.
3 People: May this light remind us of the hope we all carry because you love the whole world. ANTHEM Gloria Mozart OFFERTORY PRAYER All: Holy God, as we gather this evening, all our attention is focused on a baby, lying in a makeshift bed in an it-willhave-to-do stable. It s not lost on us that you sent your Son, our Savior, into the world among the poorest of the poor and told us: This will be a sign to you. As we present gifts to you, we pray that they might reach those in the greatest need, that they might lift those in the deepest despair, and that they might bring peace and compassion to those who find themselves amidst conflict. We pray this in the name of that Holy Child, Jesus the Christ, our Savior and Redeemer! Amen. THE GIVING OF OUR GIFTS OF LOVE CHORAL OFFERTORY A Child Is Born In Bethlehem J.S. Bach Night Bethlehem Bates Burt & Alfred Burt *DOXOLOGY Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow Pg. 95 SCRIPTURE READING Luke 2: 9 NT. Pg. 58 John 1:14 NT. Holy infant so tender and mild, sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night, shepherds quake at the sight; glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing Alleluia! Christ the Savior is born. Christ the Savior is born. Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love s pure light; radiant beams from thy holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord at thy birth, Jesus, Lord at thy birth. Silent night, holy night wondrous star, lend thy light; with the angels let us sing, Alleluia to our King; Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born! *CONGREGATIONAL HYMN Joy to the World Pg. 246 *BENEDICTION *POSTLUDE Variations on Adeste Fideles Arr.
