As the minister begins to serve those distributing the elements, that is your signal to come forward. However, individuals may commune at any time during the distribution of the elements. Wine will be found in the outside tray, grape juice in the inside tray. If you need to be served in your pew, please notify an elder or deacon. Gluten free bread is available upon request. You are welcome to participate in the Lord s Supper if you are a baptized Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member or adherent of this or some other congregation, recognized as belonging to the fellowship of Christian believers. If this does not describe you, we are glad you are here and commend to you this prayer for your use during the time of the Lord s Supper. O Holy Father, you have freely given your Son, O Divine Son, you have freely paid my debt, O Eternal Spirit, you do freely bid me come, O Triune God, you do freely grace me with salvation. Prayers and tears could not suffice to pardon my sins, nor anything less than atoning blood, but my believing is my receiving, for a thankful acceptance is no paying of the debt. Introduction to Elijah in Adult Sunday School Today In preparation for the presentation of Mendelssohn's Elijah next Lord s Day evening, April 24 th, Ron Bechtel and Florence Rayburn will together introduce the masterwork during the Adult Sunday School hour in the sanctuary today. Mendelssohn's Elijah Presentation Next Lord s Day Evening 5:00 p.m. Our evening service on April 24 th will begin an hour earlier than usual at 5:00 p.m. with the presentation of Mendelssohn s oratorio Elijah. We have enjoyed selections from this magnificent work in evening preludes over the past year, and anticipate the blessing of the musical retelling of the ancient hero's story next Sunday. A stringed quartet, four soloists (two from Faith, Daniel Roberts and Heidi Bone), two choirs, organ and piano will combine to play and sing this glorious music. If you have not heard Elijah before, you have a great treat in store. If you know the work, you will be delighted to hear it again. The length of the oratorio

Adult Sunday School, May 1, 2016 We are pleased to welcome Joel Belz, founding publisher of World Magazine, former moderator of the Presbyterian Church in America, and one of the principle architects of the Christian school movement in conservative American Presbyterianism. We'll enjoy a beautifully set room full of spring flowers and lovely dishes, delicious breakfast and brunch food, beautiful music, and happy companionship. There will be opportunities to help out if you desire, including baking scones, setting a table with your dishes, and the usual setup, cooking, and cleanup. Mom, feel free to nominate your husband and children for these chores! (Don't worry if you are not a Mother's Day 'celebrator', this event is more about us getting together as a church, enjoying each other s company, eating yummy food, and having fun together.) Genesis 39 Project for Women Our next class will be April 24 when we will be joined by Gwen Westerlund, formerly from this church and the sister of Daniel Roberts. Gwen has her MA in Counseling and Theological Studies. She has experience counseling individuals and couples who have struggled with sexual addiction personally and in their relationships. There will be time for a Q & A. Please feel free to bring questions on 3x5 cards to the class for Gwen. There will also be cards provided. 8 Men, if you are interested in helping as a building monitor during one of the services, please contact Ken Kvale. The purpose of building monitor is to keep a watch during the services for suspicious activities. You would probably serve once during a three-month period. Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (WIC Room 117) We are reading Sensei, by Russell Hitt. This fascinating biography is about Irene Webster-Smith, an Irish woman born in 1888, who became a missionary to Japan, rescuing prostitutes and geisha girls and leading them to Christ. Join us in the WIC room if you d like to read and discuss this book together. The Women of Faith Class II (Room 301) We are studying together the book of Luke. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) An introduction to Mendelssohn's Elijah, Ron Bechtel and Florence Rayburn will together introduce this masterwork in preparation for the performance next Lord s Day evening. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) The high school class continues in its series on a Christian understanding of gender and sexual identity. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) This class led by Tim Bentson and Andrew Milton is going through What Christians Believe, an ESL Bible study by J. Wesley Eby. Music Ministry: Choristers Our Choristers ensemble provides musical training for treble voices (young students with reading skills) under the direction of Mrs. Melissa McMillan. They rehearse on Wednesdays, 7:00-8:15 p.m. and present music in worship periodically. They sing next on Sunday morning, May 1. For more information, contact Melissa McMillan. Music Ministry: Student Educational Event in May In collaboration with ACM, FPC will host an Accompanist Workshop and Masterclass with two experienced church and concert musicians, Maddie Lee and Sydney Jarrard, on Saturday, May 21, 2016, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Registration required. The event will conclude with a piano recital presented by Sydney Jarrard at 2:00 p.m. The recital is free and open to the public. The workshop and masterclass are open to all pianists who want to become excellent accompanists, collaborating with soloists, ensembles, and choirs. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer each week: Wednesday morning with Phil Perkins: We meet at Treos Cafe in Old Town Tacoma, 2312 North 30 th at 6:00 am. This meeting, which originated six years ago has continuously focused on the Psalms. Thursday morning with Thom Wilson at 6:30 am at the church. We are reading and praying through Ian Hamilton's book The Faith Shaped Life. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women In the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. God's Breadbasket Ministry The purpose of God s Breadbasket is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, or the arrival of newborns. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office.
