As the minister begins to serve those distributing the elements, that is your signal to come forward. However, individuals may commune at any time during the distribution of the elements. Wine will be found in the outside tray, grape juice in the inside tray. If you need to be served in your pew, please notify an elder or deacon. Gluten free bread is available upon request. You are welcome to participate in the Lord s Supper if you are a baptized Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member or adherent of this or some other congregation, recognized as belonging to the fellowship of Christian believers. If this does not describe you, we are glad you are here and commend to you this prayer for your use during the time of the Lord s Supper. Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen.

Tonight: The Unity of the Bible. Evening Prelude Begins at 5:40 p.m. Beautiful music enlivens our spirits and adds to our Sabbath joy. Each Sunday evening prior to the worship service, musicians begin to play or sing at 5:40 pm. Baby Shower for Lauren Miller Ladies, join us in showering Lauren Miller as she is expecting a baby boy! Ladies Bible Study Begins September 12 th Ladies, we will begin a new study on Tuesday, September 12, 9:30 am - noon in the WIC room downstairs. If you are interested in studying God s Word with other women as well as fellowshipping and deepening friendships, praying with and for each other, please join us every Tuesday morning. This fall we will study a new book by our own Bob Rogland, Galatians: Freedom in Christ. The Apostle Paul s letter to the churches of Galatia presents the genuine gospel of Christ, a gospel the Galatians were in danger of abandoning for a false one. Current research shows that well over half of Americans today have fallen into the same error as the Galatians. Every Christian needs a solid understanding of the truth of the gospel as laid out in Galatians. This study guide will help the Bible student better to understand and apply the truths of Galatians. Babysitting is available. If you need a book or have any questions, please see Dawn Darby. Better English on Sixth: HELP ONCE IN A WHILE Maybe you would love to help the Better English Outreach in some way, but you cannot commit to EVERY Monday night or ANY Monday night. We were encouraged last week by a few who said they were willing to help assemble craft packs or help with snacks. We could use more help with these two things as well as substitute nursery help, once-a-month nursery help (joining the intrepid Dawn Darby), rides for an international friend to the doctor or to an interview, non-monday language partnering, etc. IF YOU POST IT, THEY WILL COME We ve prepared to grow and we have dozens of people helping with the Better English on Sixth Program. NOW we need your help to recruit students! We have postcards which you can give to friends and neighbors (One tactful way: Of course your English is excellent, but perhaps you have a friend or relative who would like to come to Better English on Sixth ). 8 livery person may be our next favorite student, if you would just give him/her a colorful postcard or business card telling them about our FREE language classes. Maybe you can think of a place to put a flyer with tear-off tabs. Be courageous and creative! Ladies Retreat Seabrook, WA October 5-7 Our annual WIC Retreat is coming up on October 5-7, 2017, in Seabrook, WA. This year our theme is: Redeeming the Detours. We ll pray, sing, contemplate God s Word, meet in small groups, and have numerous free time activities available. Refresh your soul as you enjoy God s creation and fellowship with old friends and new. This year s cost is $160 per woman, except the captain bunks which are $100; and this includes 2 nights stay & meals. Today is the deadline for signing up and payment is also due at the sign-up table in the Narthex. Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (WIC Room 117) We are reading and discussing Dick Hannula s book, Heralds of the Reformation: Thirty Biographies of Sheer Grace. In the Fall of 2017 we celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, so what better subject to cover than the story of the struggle between the theological authorities and the men and women who refused to keep quiet about the sheer grace of the Gospel. Please join us. You don t need a copy of the book, but if you d like one, see Dick Hannula. The Women of Faith Class II (Covenant High School Office) We are studying together the book of Luke. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) Esther is not Yester - Politics Matters - A Sunday School class on a new phrase by phrase commentary on the book of Esther by Robert Case. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) This week Pastor Nicoletti and the high school class are beginning their year-long study of Dante s Divine Comedy. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) This class led by Kathy Lewis is reading aloud The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Study guides and copies of the book are provided free for class attendees. Join the ACM Festival Choir to Sing Vivaldi s Gloria during Advent 2017 Rehearsals for the timeless oratorio, Gloria, by Antonio Vivaldi will begin on September 12 and continue on succeeding Tuesdays through November. Gloria will be performed by the ACM Festival Choir under Ron Bechtel s direction on December 3. For more information, click acmusicians.org. Explanation of the Cover Symbol The Shield of the Holy Trinity: Found frequently in stained glass windows of medieval churches, this emblem expresses the Christian doctrine of the triunity of Almighty God. Positively, two affirmations are made about each person of the Godhead. Reading from the center circle outward: God (Deus) is (est) Father (P is for Pater), God is Son (F is for Filius), and God is Holy Spirit (SS is for Spiritus Sanctus). Reading from the outer circles inward: The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. Negatively, two affirmations are likewise made about each person of the Godhead. Reading clockwise and counter-clockwise from one outer circle to the other two: The Father is not (non est) the Son or the Holy Spirit, the Son is not the Father or the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father or the Son.

9 Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week: Monday-Friday mornings Fit for the Cross devotions with Jim Roland, 5:30 am at the church, Room 304. Come to the North door of the church. Any questions call Jim. Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town MarKee coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy your ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the books of Ezra and Nehemiah as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to do life together throughout the week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We currently have two established groups: one that meets on Tuesday at Caleb and Tamala Bestvater s home at 7 pm and one that meets on Thursday at Nate and Rachael Shelden s home at 6:30 pm. For more details, or if you re interested in joining a C&C Community Group, please contact one of us and we ll help you get connected! Meals on Wheels The purpose of Meals on Wheels is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, adoption or childbirth. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office. Meal needs will be requested via TNT (This n That), the church s announcement system. To receive TNT s, please contact the church office. Thank you! Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. Hearing Assistance If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see a Deacon.
