Tonight: The Two Sides of Salvation. The Lord s Supper will be served. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Evening Prelude Begins at 5:40 p.m. Beautiful music enlivens our spirits and adds to our Sabbath joy. Each Sunday evening prior to the worship service, musicians begin to play or sing at 5:40 pm.

Men of Faith Oktoberfest - September 30th, 2017 Our 8th annual Oktoberfest will be this Saturday, September 30th from 2:00-5:00 pm at the home of Ken Kvale. Our guest speaker this year will be our own Robert Rogland. Bob has authored numerous books including Romans: A Study Guide and Luther s Ninety-Five Theses for the 21st Century. Bob will bring us a message on the topic of Martin Luther s Ninety-five theses. Oktoberfest has become the kick-off for our next book to read and discuss together in small groups. The 500th anniversary of Martin Luther s Ninety-Five Theses is October 31, 2017 and we will be reading Bob Rogland s book mentioned above. A sign-up sheet will be available in the Narthex today. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 under age 21. Teenage sons are most welcome. Join us for a Delicious German cookout. If you have any questions, please contact Chad Isenberger. Baby Shower for Katherine Fahling Ladies, there will be a baby shower for Katherine Fahling on Tuesday, October 3rd in DeSoto Hall at 7:00 pm. The box will be in the narthex if you want to contribute to the group gift. Please designate the Fahling baby shower and make checks payable to Tina LeFebvre. Katherine and her husband are new to the church so this is a great opportunity to get to know her and surround her with care and support. Please join us as we celebrate the upcoming birth of this new baby girl! Genesis 39 for Men The Power of the Tongue Proverbs says the tongue has the power of life and of death. Don t miss out on Dr. Rayburn s presentation on this crucial topic during the Sunday School hour today in the sanctuary. Genesis 39 for Women Ladies, please join us as we begin the year with prayer! We want to lift our cries to the One who hears for our marriages, our young men and women, our relationships between parents and children. Some of us will also share how the Lord is using the power of prayer in our lives. We will meet in DeSoto Hall. Adult Sunday School All adults and high schoolers are encouraged to attend the Genesis 39 classes today. The regular adult Sunday school classes will resume next Lord s Day. Choristers Rehearsals Resume This Wednesday, September 27 th Choristers will meet each Wednesday evening, 7:00 to 8:15, under Melissa McMillan s direction. To register your treble-voiced child (ages 7 +), sign up on the clipboard at the FPCMusic table in the narthex.

8 Vivaldi s Gloria during Advent 2017 Rehearsals for the timeless oratorio, Gloria, by Antonio Vivaldi have begun and continue on succeeding Tuesdays through November. Gloria will be performed by the ACM Festival Choir under Ron Bechtel s direction on December 3. For more information, click acmusicians.org. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week: Monday-Friday mornings Fit for the Cross devotions with Jim Roland, 5:30 am at the church, Room 304. Come to the North door of the church. Any questions call Jim. Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town MarKee coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy your ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the books of Ezra and Nehemiah as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to do life together throughout the week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We currently have two established groups: one that meets on Tuesday at Caleb and Tamala Bestvater s home at 7 pm and one that meets on Thursday at Nate and Rachael Shelden s home at 6:30 pm. A Reminder about Parking As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park on the south side of South 8th Street, on South Winnifred Street behind the church, or where the curb is painted yellow. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. Hearing Assistance If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see a Deacon. Explanation of the Cover Symbol Since the time of the Reformation, the burning bush has been a symbol of the Church. The Latin words are taken from Exodus 3:2 and read...and yet it was not consumed. In one of his letters Samuel Rutherford reminds his correspondent, The bush has been burning these five thousand years, and no man yet saw the ashes of that fire.
