1 Hixson Presbyterian Church November 11, 2018 Prelude Greetings Greg Baney Call to Worship Psalm 9:7-11 Prayer of Preparation & Confession Scripture Reading How Firm a Foundation How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent Word. What more can He say than to you He hath said, to you, who for refuge to Jesus hath fled? Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed, for I am Thy God and will still give thee aid. I ll strengthen thee, help thee and cause thee to stand, upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand. When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace all-sufficient shall be thy supply. The flame shall not hurt thee, I only design thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine. The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose, I will not, no, will not desert to his foes. That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I ll never, no never, no never forsake. Nothing In All The Earth What shall separate us from Your love? Can years of sorrow break eternal bonds? Can condemnation ever raise its voice Against the pardon of the blood of Christ? Though our journey here is long This will be our triumph song Chorus: Nothing in all the earth Not any height above Could ever tear us from Your everlasting love Nothing in all the earth Not any height above Could ever tear us from Your everlasting love What shall separate us from Your love? For now the sting of death is overcome And all the powers of this world must fall Before Your feet because You rule them all And though our journey here is long This shall be our triumph song Nothing in all the earth Could ever tear us from Your everlasting love

2 Responsive Reading Job 28:20-28 Prayer of Intercession God Moves God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform. He plants His footsteps in the sea, and rides upon the storm. Deep in His dark and hidden mines, with never failing skill, He fashions all His bright designs, and works His sovereign will. Chorus: So God, we trust in You. O God, we trust in You. When tears are great and comforts few, We hope in mercies ever new. We trust in You. Oh fearful saints, new courage take: The clouds that you now dread Are big with mercy and will break in blessings on your head. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, but trust Him for His grace. Behind a frowning providence, He hides a smiling face. God s purposes will ripen fast, unfolding every hour. The bud may have a bitter taste, but sweet will be the flower. Blind unbelief is sure to err and scan His work in vain. God is His own interpreter and He will make it plain. God s Tithes and Our Offerings *Please fill out the friendship folder found at the end of the pew* Children Pre-K through 1st grade are invited to Children s Church Offertory Instrumental Sermon The Sanctifying Spirit Robert Johnson Romans 6:11-14 Communion Bread in Unison There is a Fountain Cup Individually Instrumental Be Thou My Vision Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Riches I heed not, nor man s empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always; Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art. Be Thou my wisdom, and thou my true word I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father and I Thy true son Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee One. High King of heaven, my victory won, May I reach heaven s joys, O bright heaven s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my vision, O Ruler of all **Elders are available for prayer at the front of the sanctuary.

3 Benediction Postlude Why Do We Do That? Reading Scripture We believe that All scripture is inspired by God and is profitable... (2 Tim. 3:16) The Scriptures are the very words of God. When they are read God speaks directly to us. Reading scripture shows our submission to His words and our willingness to sit under God as the One who gives wisdom, from [whose] mouth come knowledge and understanding. (Prov. 2:6) God also commands us to do this regularly as a part our worship. In 2 Timothy 4:13 the Apostle Paul instructs Timothy, the pastor of the church in Ephesus, to...devote yourself to the public reading of scripture. Whenever we hear scripture read or participate in a corporate reading we worship in obedience and receive from God that which is living and active (Heb. 4:12) and which always accomplishes the purposes of the Lord (Is. 55:10). Congregation Standing CCLI# *Please feel free to sit as necessary

5 Announcements for the week November 11, 2018 Good Samaritan Fund: As we celebrate the Lord s Supper, the congregation is encouraged to give a special offering in support of HPC s Good Samaritan Fund for the ministry of mercy. In this practical way we demonstrate our belief in the Communion of Saints, as these funds are used to assist Covenant family members and others who are in need. Guatemala Mission Trip Meeting: There will be a brief meeting today in room M-1 after the service for anyone who missed the last meeting and is interested in going on the Guatemala mission trip (June 2-8). This is a family friendly mission trip. Also, if you have decided to go, please attend the meeting to sign up for the trip. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy DeMoss. Prayer Walkers: Come warm up with us at Sourdough Cuppa Joe s each Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30. The Scripture Prayer Walkers are moving indoors. The 1st Tuesday of each month we will be writing cards to folks on the prayer list. Call Denise Jennings for more information. Congregational Meeting: Please join us next Sunday, November 18th, for a Capital Campaign and Building update right after the worship service. Parents, please pick up your children immediately after the service to allow the nursery volunteers to attend the meeting. Wednesday Night Supper: December 5th at 5:30. We are having soup and salad. Please sign up using the tear-off in your bulletin. Fall Sunday School Classes The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark & Luke) - We have been given four accounts of the life and ministry of Christ, three of which reference many of the same events, but all of which were written for a specific purpose and audience in mind. Come join us this fall as we journey through the first three gospels and learn more about the life and teachings of Jesus our King. Allow God s Word to transform your hearts as we behold Christ in the gospels! Meets in M-1 August 19th - December 16th (Taught by Greg Baney). Titus & Fruitful Christian Living - This class is especially designed for married couples. We will explore the topic of collective and individual mentoring in the lives of married couples, guided by a careful study of the epistle of Titus. Members of the class will share their experience both mentoring others and being mentored by others. Meets in M-2 September 9th - December 16th. (Taught by Steven Edging) Three Generations Class (20 s 30 s 40 s) - This class will discuss the book, Jesus Outside the Lines. Copies of the book can be obtained in the church office. Meets in the Conference Rm. August 19th - December 16th (Taught by Thomas & Cindy DeMoss). Women s Bible Study Thursday Morning Bible Study: Thursday morning bible study for women led by Karen Bennett at 10:00 am.
