4 Sermon Our Part in the Story The Lord s Supper The general order of communion will be back to front, with the balcony coming first. As the minister begins to serve those distributing the elements, that is your signal to come forward. However, individuals may commune at any time during the distribution of the elements. Wine will be found in the outside tray, grape juice in the inside tray. If you need to be served in your pew, please notify an elder or deacon. Gluten free bread is available upon request. You are welcome to participate in the Lord s Supper if you are a baptized Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member or adherent of this or some other congregation, recognized as belonging to the fellowship of Christian believers. If this does not describe you, we are glad you are here and commend to you this prayer for your use during the time of the Lord s Supper. O Heavenly Father, teach me to see that if Christ has pacified you and satisfied divine justice he can also deliver me from my sins; that Christ does not desire me, now justified, to live in self-confidence in my own strength, but gives me the law of the Spirit of life to enable me to obey you; that the Spirit and his power are mine by resting on Christ s death; that the Spirit of Life within answers to the law without; that if I sin not I should thank you for it; that if I sin I should be humbled daily under it; that I should mourn for sin more than other men do, for when I see I shall die because of sin, that makes me mourn; when I see how sin strikes at you, that makes me mourn; when I see that sin caused Christ s death, that makes me mourn; that sanctification is the evidence of reconciliation, proving that faith has truly apprehended Christ; You have taught me that faith is nothing else than receiving your kindness; that it is an adherence to Christ, a resting on him, love clinging to him as a branch to the tree. By this we may test ourselves. Perhaps we are not in a position to make public gestures against ungodliness and apostasy. Perhaps we are old, or ill, or otherwise limited by our physical situation. But we can all pray about the ungodliness and apostasy which we see in everyday life all around us. Men s Genesis 39 Class Next Sunday Cultivating Self-Discipline Next Sunday at the Men s Genesis 39 Sunday school class we will continue with our new structure, dividing our time between focusing on the sin we are trying to uproot, and the virtue we would like to plant/cultivate in its place. We will begin our time this month with a video on the effects pornography is having on men in our culture. After that, we will consider together how we can cultivate the virtue of self-discipline in our lives. We hope you will join us! Words of Faith in Print Again Words of Faith, our church periodical, is in print again and is actively recruiting contributing authors and column ideas. If you enjoy writing, or if you have an idea of a subject that you would like explored, please contact Katrina Knight.

Explanation of the Cover Symbol In the Greek language of the early Christian era abbreviations were typically the first and last letters of words, often with a superscription to indicate the missing letters. Barnabas Project Gentle reminder: Writing submissions and picture submissions (which should include family name, event, and date or however much information is remembered) need to be submitted into the Barnabas Project box in the Narthex. Near this box are large envelopes along with acid free paper. Please take an envelope and several pieces of acid free paper to complete your words of encouragement on. The Women of Faith Class II (Covenant High School Office) We are studying together the book Alive in the Spirit by A.W. Tozer. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) Pastor Rayburn continues with A Survey of the Old Testament. High School Sunday School (North Side of DeSoto Hall) Pastor Nicoletti and the high school class continue their year-long study of Dante s Divine Comedy. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) Kathy Lewis facilitates the Better English class where individual American partners help each international who wishes to read or discuss material at an appropriate level of English. 10 Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town Anthem coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy your ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the books of Ezra and Nehemiah as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to do life together throughout the week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We have one group that meets on Thursdays at Nate and Rachel Shelden s home at 6:30, and another group that meets on Tuesdays at Isaac and Elsie Dye s home at 6:30. A Reminder about Parking As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park on the south side of South 8th Street, on South Winnifred Street behind the church, or where the curb is painted yellow. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services.
