Tonight: The Baptism That Saves You. The Lord s Supper will be served. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Our Preacher This Morning We welcome to Christ s pulpit here this morning the Rev. Andrew Allen, well known to this congregation through his years of worshipping here with his wife Amy and daughter Kathryn. As most will know, Andrew was called to be the organizing pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Soldotna, Alaska, but has had to relinquish that work on account of his battle with stage 4 lung cancer. The elders thought it would be a great blessing for this congregation to hear Pastor Allen. Easter Reception Refreshments We wanted the congregation to be aware that the donuts we enjoyed on Easter Sunday were made by Angel Hernandez in his recently opened bakery Pasteles Finos Del Angel (Fine Cakes and Pastries by Angel). Angel has been attending Faith and Better English on 6th for some months now, and we have greatly enjoyed getting to know him. He makes a wide variety of pastries, cookies and cakes both Mexican and European. We are delighted to recommend you stop by his shop at 5102 South Washington Street to try more of his delicious treats.

7 Men of Faith Spring Breakfast The Men of Faith Annual Spring Breakfast will be May 12th at 8 am. We are delighted to announce our guest speaker will be Rev. Jason Davison. The cost is $8 to attend. A sign up will be set up in the Narthex beginning April 15th. Ladies Spring Tea and Fashion Show by Pair s The Ladies Spring Tea and Fashion Show by Pair s will be held on Saturday, April 28th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. All women are welcome whether you are a mother, daughter, or grandmother young and old alike! Our guest speaker, Diane Collins, will be speaking about Sorrow and Love. This year our fashion show will be by pair s, either a mother & daughter, or grandmother & granddaughter, sisters, cousins, or friends you decide! There will be a $100 cash prize for the winning pair! Contact Shari Roland to participate in the fashion show. Please bring a teacup to use with or without a saucer. We need teapots, so let Carole Weigley know if you can loan us a teapot. Be sure to sign up in the Narthex on April 15th or 22nd, so we will know how many ladies to prepare for. Presently, no child care will be available. Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (WIC Room 117) We are reading and discussing Dick Hannula s book, Heralds of the Reformation: Thirty Biographies of Sheer Grace. In the Fall of 2017 we celebrated the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, so what better subject to cover than the story of the struggle between the theological authorities and the men and women who refused to keep quiet about the sheer grace of the Gospel. Please join us. You don t need a copy of the book. The Women of Faith Class II (Covenant High School Office) We are studying together the book Alive in the Spirit by A.W. Tozer. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) Pastor Rayburn continues with A Survey of the Old Testament. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) Pastor Nicoletti and the high school class continue their year-long study of Dante s Divine Comedy. Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) Kathy Lewis facilitates the Better English class where individual American partners help each international who wishes to read or discuss material at an appropriate level of English. Please contact Kathy or Jonathan Nichols if you would like to become a partner or assist Better English on Sixth in any way. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town Anthem coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the

8 Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy your ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the books of Ezra and Nehemiah as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to do life together throughout the week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We have had one established group that meets on Thursday at Nate and Rachel Shelden s home at 6:30, and we are pleased to announce that beginning this Tuesday, April 10 th we will also begin a group that meets at 6:30 on Tuesdays at Isaac and Elsie Dye s home. For more details, or if you re interested in joining a C&C Community Group, please contact one of us and we ll help you get connected! A Reminder about Parking As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park on the south side of South 8th Street, on South Winnifred Street behind the church, or where the curb is painted yellow. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women in the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. Hearing Assistance If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see a Deacon. Explanation of the Cover Symbol The anchor is an ancient Christian symbol for hope. It is derived from Hebrews 6:19: We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul... When combined with a cross it makes plain that Christian hope is in Christ and His redemption. The symbol was frequently used in this sense in the catacombs of ancient Rome.
