Tonight we consider James famous words about our speech. The Lord s Supper is observed every Lord s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening communion not only because all the Lord s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part of the observance of the Lord s Day. Annual Congregational Meeting & Dinner The Annual Congregational Meeting and Dinner will be held this Wednesday, January 27 th with dinner beginning at in DeSoto Hall. The meeting follows at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary. Please sign up in the narthex to give us a count for food. Pizza and vegetable trays will be provided; bring your favorite cookies or dessert to share. A Baby Shower for Jennie & Elizabeth McClelland Ladies, mark your calendars for the opportunity to welcome Elizabeth and get to know her mommy Jennie! Yes, it looks great on a resume or college application. NO, you are never going to believe how much fun this type of ministry is until you step out in faith and try it. No, you re not too old, nor too young, nor too introverted to be a wonderful blessing and kingdom worker as a language partner.

Absolutely, because in this training you will learn how to: A) Communicate effectively with ESL students; B) Teach a range of language topics including grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary; C) Share your faith in the context of an ESL relationship. D) Equip yourself for practical cross-cultural gospel neighbor-loving. We need you to register in order to plan for food and texts. Please register at the table in the narthex or by contacting Jonathan Nichols. Save the Date Couples Retreat, March 3-5, 2016 The annual Couples Retreat is March 3-5 at Lake Quinault Lodge. A generous donor is making it possible for us to attend for half the price of the room. Room prices will vary from $89 per night, some for $66 and others for $56 (that is the cost after the subsidy). We will have more information next week in the bulletin and the TNT. We have 27 rooms blocked at this point. Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (WIC Room 117) We are reading Sensei, by Russell Hitt. This fascinating biography is about Irene Webster-Smith, an Irish woman born in 1888, who became a missionary to Japan, rescuing prostitutes and geisha girls and leading them to Christ. Join us in the WIC room if you d like to read and discuss this book together. The Women of Faith Class II (Room 301) We are studying together the book of Luke. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) We are watching a DVD series entitled Only Two Religions. Dr. Peter Jones examines the worldview and fundamental religious convictions that drive modern culture. He demonstrates that in the final analysis, there can be only two religions worship of the Creator or worship of creation. Elder Paul Darby leads our discussion. High School Sunday School (North Half of DeSoto Hall) The high school class continues their series The Drama of Scripture: Finding Our Place in the Biblical Story, based on the book by Craig G. Bartholomew and Michael W. Goheen. Covenant Group for Singles and Young Marrieds (Conference Room) We are currently studying Faith in a Pluralistic Society - Studies in Judges. Please join us to study God s Word, with fellowship and donuts. MUSICNotes Registration deadline for Young Church Musicians Recital Competition is February 22. See acmusicians. org for NEW contest details. There will be two concurrent contests on April 2 for Keyboard (piano and organ) and Strings, Woodwinds, and Brass. Circle the date: Sunday evening, April 24, 5:30 pm, FPC sanctuary, Elijah. Soloists include our own Heidi Bone and Daniel Roberts, as well as Courtney (Rayburn) Dey and Ross Hauck. Accompanists are our own Maddie Lee, piano, and Evangeline (Rayburn) Wykoff, organ. You won t want to miss it! Now here s a good idea: Prepare yourself for the thrill of hearing Elijah on April 24th by reading the Elijah dramatic narrative that begins in 1 Kings 17. Elijah rehearsals have resumed, preparing for our April 24th presentation of Mendelssohn s magisterial oratorio. If you are interested in singing in the choir, please contact Ron Bechtel. The rehearsal schedule is available at acmusicians.org. Choristers rehearsals are now underway each Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. This choir for treble voices (at least age 7) prepares music for worship services under the direction of Mrs. Melissa McMillan. The Choristers will next sing in the worship service on March 6 th.

8 College & Career Group Our college & career group meets at the Aown s home on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month: once for a social gathering and once for a small-group-style gathering. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer each week: Wednesday morning with Phil Perkins: We meet at Treos Cafe in Old Town Tacoma, 2312 North 30 th at 6:00 am. This meeting, which originated six years ago has continuously focused on the Psalms. Thursday morning with Thom Wilson at 6:30 am at the church. We are reading and praying through Joshua and Judges. Nursing Mothers In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 the Women In the Church room, is open and available for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC room. God s Breadbasket Ministry The purpose of God s Breadbasket is to provide meals for those families needing extra help due to illness, death in the family, or the arrival of newborns. If you know of a need, please contact Kathy Haass, Alisha Bennett or the church office. Hearing Assistance If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see a Deacon in the Narthex. Explanation of the Cover Symbol Since the time of the Reformation, the burning bush has been a symbol of the Church. The Latin words are taken from Exodus 3:2 and read...and yet it was not consumed. In one of his letters Samuel Rutherford reminds his correspondent, The bush has been burning these five thousand years, and no man yet saw the ashes of that fire.
