SACRAMENT OF PENANCE AND RECONCILIATION Every Saturday from 3:15-3:45 PM in the Reconciliation Room located just inside the front of the church at the handicap entrance, baptismal font side of church. Other scheduled opportunities throughout the year, as well as by appointment. SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Sacrament of The Sick will be administered on the last weekend of each month after the 4PM and 11AM Masses. Who can receive this sacrament? Those who are aged, chronically ill, are having treatments or will be having surgery. We invite you to come receive the Sacrament of the Sick, a source of strength, healing and grace. HOMEBOUND MINISTRY Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion bring Holy Communion to those unable to attend Sunday Mass. Please contact the parish office to make arrangements. Hoyt, Jr. for Wally s Way at 10:30am on the common as well as the Civic Ceremony at 11:00am. All are welcome to attend. THANKSGIVING DAY MASS Join us on Thanksgiving Day at 9:00am to celebrate Mass and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. Bread will again be distributed this year following Mass and is donated in loving memory of Shirley Newfell. All are welcome. Our Grand Annual collection is underway. Thank you to those who have already responded. As the letter stated, after the weekly offertory, the Grand Annual is our most important collection of the year. Aside from returning the envelopes with cash or checks, you will also be able to pay via credit card through our online giving program. These forms can be found on all the tables of the church. If you should have any questions, please contact Sharon in the parish office. As always, we thank you for your kindness and generosity. To date, the amount collected is $36, CLUB Our next drawing NEXT Sunday, November 16 at 12:30pm. Please spread the word of our 1000 Club. Memberships are $55 per year. If you would like to join, contact Sharon in the parish office. SAVE THE DATE Breakfast with Santa will be held on Sunday, December 7 from 9am-12 noon. Details to follow. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS WREATH SALE It does sound early to be discussing Christmas wreaths, but as we all know, it will be here before you know it. The sale of the wreaths will begin mid-november so please watch the bulletin for more details. CAROLING AT WALTHAM CROSSINGS Join Our Lady s Activities Committee on Thursday, December 11 as we visit the folks at Waltham Crossings and sing Christmas carols for them. All are invited, any age. If you are interested contact Sharon in the parish office. We will meet in the parish center at 6pm for warm ups and then we ll leave and be at Waltham Crossings for 6:30pm. The residents there look forward to this annually and it is a very rewarding experience. We hope you can join us. November 9,

4 Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish TURKEY-RAMA Saturday, November 22 at 5:00pm The Turkey-Rama mailing has gone out. We are in need of raffle prizes and donations. The raffle prize tables are the largest part of our fundraiser. You can bring donations to Sharon in the parish office anytime. Also needed for our event is cases of soda-coke/diet Coke and Sprite. Your help with these items helps defray the cost of the event. These items can be brought to the parish office as well. BAKE SALE: If you would like to bake something for the bake sale at the Turkey-Rama, please call Ruby Leeber at BALLOONS: We hope to do the balloons again this year. If you would like to help by making a gift card donation towards the balloon portion of the fundraiser, that would be greatly appreciated. Any amount of $20 or more. Thank you in advance. REMEMBERING OUR SOLDIERS During the month of November at all the doors of the church, there will be blue boxes. Please take a moment and drop in a note, a card or a letter to an active duty service member. The boxes will be there until December. We celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas here at home or on the road with family and friends. Our service members are away from home during this time protecting us and keeping us safe so we can be with our family and friends. The Activities Club will take care of the postage. We have a list of service people from the Waltham area, but if you know of someone and have their full mailing address and would like for them to receive an envelope full of cards and notes for their platoon/troop/fellow soldiers, please let Sharon know the information and we will get a package to them the first few weeks of December. Waltham/Lexington MEMORIAL CANDLE RENEWAL Renewal letters have been sent home to those who have candles that burn from November to November. Kindly fill in the bottom portion of your letter and return to the parish office with your $250 renewal payment. TRAINING SESSIONS - NEW ALTAR SERVERS Training for new altar servers will be held in the church on Saturday OR Sunday. You choose which you can attend as the content of each weekend s training will be the same on Saturday and Sunday. 6 Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish CATECHISM CORNER The Christian Name In Baptism the Christian receives his name in the Church. This can be the name of a saitn, that is, of a disciple who has lived a life of exemplary fidelity to the Lord. The baptismal name can also express a Christian mystery of Christian virtue. Parents, godparents, and the pastor are to see that a name is not given which is foreign to Christian sentiment. The patron saint provides a model of charity and the assurance of his prayer. The Christian begins his day, his prayers and his activities with the Sign of the Cross: in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen The baptized person dedicates the day to the glory of God and calls on the Savior s Grace which lets him act in the Spirit as a child of the Father. The sign of the cross strengthens us in temptations and difficulties. God calls each one by name. Everyone s name is sacred. The name is the icon of the person. It demands respect as a sign of the dignity of the one who bears it. For $15 each, you can have delicious pies just in time for your Thanksgiving meal AND support the school. Donations will also help to provide pies to families supported by Our Lady s St. Vincent de Paul. In last week s bulletin was the order form, to order, return that form to the office by November 12th or after any Mass this weekend November 9 th. Orders will be available for pick-up Monday, November 24 th in the school cafeteria from 2-5pm. The Sicilian Tenors bring together three marvelous tenor voices, each singing their own interpretation of the world s best music. The classically trained tenor s are known to take their audience from tears to laughter with warm nostalgia and soaring voices. Lunch choices: Roasted stuffed chicken breast or Baked Atlantic Scrod, garden salad, rolls, vegetable, roasted potatoes and dessert. The motor coach will leave Our Lady s church parking lot.
