3 A Message from our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick Parish, In the First Reading today, the young boy, Samuel, heard a voice calling him. Eli told Samuel, if you are called again, say, Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening and he did, and then he listened to the message God gave to him. The Catholic Catechism defines prayer as a vital and personal relationship with the living and true God. Prayer is the raising of one s mind and heart to God. Mary and Joseph taught Jesus to pray. As a young child he learned the prayers taught to him and at the age of 12 years, we find him praying in the temple and saying to Mary and Joseph, I must be in my Father s house. The last words of Jesus from the cross is a prayer addressed to his Heavenly Father. There are many written prayers that we can pray, we recite them, we are comfortable to say them but, are they really from the heart as you say those prayers? When we express our love to someone do we pull out a sheet of paper and read the words, not even looking at the person we love or do we say what is in our hearts as we look at the person and say the words? Prayer is not meant to be difficult nor is it to be empty words said. When we pray, we trust that God is listening to us and that He will answer our prayer. What have we got to lose by asking him? At Mass, we sing songs to God, we say prayers, we listen to God s word from the bible and the homily. Are we really conscience that we are listening and talking to our loving God? Yes, we can pray any where and at anytime, but for us Catholics, praying at Mass in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in Holy Communion should be a special moment. As we pray at Mass, let us sing louder and say the prayers with true feelings. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor

World Day of the Sick Saturday, February 10, 11:00am Cathedral of Christ the Light All who may be ill, their caregivers, family and friends are invited to attend World Day of the Sick. Those suffering from any illness will be invited to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. The day is sponsored by the Order of Malta, which does so much in our Diocese to care for the sick and the infirm. Walk for Life West Coast Saturday, January 27, 11:00am Civic Center Plaza, San Francisco All are invited to the 14th annual Walk for Life West Coast in San Francisco. Rally starts at Civic Center Plaza, walking down Market Street, 2 miles and ends at Justin Herman Plaza/Ferry Building. BART stations are at both locations and there is ample parking. 5 Life at St. Patrick Parish Rooted Parish Enrichment - Thank you to everyone who participated in Rooted, Parish Enrichment Week, here at St. Patrick Parish. Many spiritual blessings were directed to the St. Patrick community. Help Support the Seminary - Today, we are asking you to help support the Seminary where our future priests are prepared to serve the Church and the people of God. The cost of educating and providing for the basic needs of our future priests is expensive. Christian Unity - January is a time when we pray for Christian unity, that one day all believers in Christ and his loving Father may once again be united in the one church as founded by Jesus. Stewardship Weekend - Next weekend, January 20-21, is our annual Parish Stewardship Weekend. We invite you to come to the parish hall after each Mass to learn more about our parish and how you can be more involved in parish life to truly experience serving God and your fellow parishioners. Thank you - to all those who helped to take down and put away our parish Christmas decorations. Once again, we all enjoyed the beautiful nativity scene (crib) designed and built by Mr. Ben Emmanuel, and for his loving care and supervision as we use it each year, Thank you Ben! God is Good - We the people of St Patrick Parish are proud that the first Sunday of 2018, the parish met its weekly goal of $11,000 in the weekly collection. Forms are available at the entry of the Church. The price of $60 per bouquet, per name remains the same. After signing up for your date, be sure to complete the Flower Offering Form and Envelope, located next to the sign up sheet, and return it to the Parish Office within two weeks to confirm your selected date. The form and Envelope can also be placed in the collection basket, with an attention to Kathy Pruett. Please make checks payable to St. Patrick Church.
