THERESA, BRONX APRIL 7, 2013 SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER On Easter Sunday over 1500 years ago St. Augustine greeted the people of his diocese with these words: We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song. If we are to be an Easter people, if Alleluia truly is our song, then we must share with others our joy in the resurrection of Jesus. Our wonderful belief in the saving presence of the Risen Lord among us here and now in this the 21 st century should not be a secret which we keep to ourselves. It is an abundant gift of a loving God to His people which He wants each and every one of us to share with all the members of the human family. It is the good news of our faith. This Easter season Our Lord calls each of us to be the brother or sister who reaches out and touches the life of someone without hope. Jesus urges you and me to be the living example of His Divine Love to someone who has never heard, really heard, the Good News of the Risen Lord that is that God really loves us, cares about us, will always be there for us, and will save us from whatever sorrow or suffering we may now be experiencing. Jesus needs to be seen in us. Jesus becomes known through us. Every child, every teenager, every man or woman who believes in the Risen Lord should be a sign of Jesus to others. You and I must be signs of the Risen Jesus to all our neighbors. Our Lord has sent us forth each day into our community to be the living witnesses of His Healing and transforming Love to a world that is broken and bruised. Will you carry this needed message to all you meet? A GENTLE REMINDER RECEIVING COMMUNION IN THE HAND Communion in the hand should show, as much as communion on the tongue, due respect towards the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. For this reason emphasis should be laid, as was done by the Fathers of the Church, upon the dignity of the gesture of the communicant. Thus, the newly baptized at the end of the fourth century were directed to stretch out both hands making the left hand a throne for the right hand, which receives the King (Jesus). Again, following the teaching of the Father, insistence is to be laid upon the importance of the Amen said in response to the phrase of the minister: the body of Christ; this Amen is an affirmation of the Faith. The communicant who has received the Eucharist in the hand is to consume it before returning to his or her place, moving aside yet remaining facing the altar in order to allow the person following to approach the minister. It is from the Church that the Faithful receive the Holy Eucharist, which is communion in the body of the Lord and in the Church; for this reason the communicant should not take from the paten or container, as would be done for ordinary bread, but the hands must be stretched out to receive from the minister of communion. Out of respect for the Eucharist, cleanliness of hands is expected. Children should be reminded of this. We say thank you to the boys and girls who gave such a beautiful and prayerful presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross during Lent. THIS YEAR S BEAUTIFUL PASCHAL CANDLE HAS BEEN DONATED BY: EILEEN & ROSARIO CAMMAROTTO IN MEMORY OF THE REALBUTO & CAMMAROTTO FAMILIES EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Eucharistic Adoration takes place every Wednesday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:30PM and on First Friday from 7:30 to 10PM. 3 SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER ST. ANTHONY NOVENA THE THIRTEEN TUESDAYS IN PREPARATION FOR THE FEASTDAY OF ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA Thank you for being a faithful follower of St. Anthony of Padua. During this Year of Faith, remember to ask St. Anthony for the special graces that will assist you to live the Gospel in Word and in deed. Each week we will petition St. Anthony to be our advocate as we journey to the Kingdom. Please extend an invitation to a loved one, to a neighbor, to a special person or group that we will be praying for on a particular evening. Let them know that this community of faith is here to support them with our prayers. Let us place our trust in the Lord and seek His assistance as we ask St. Anthony to be our advocate. THERESA S CHURCH 25 TH AND 50 TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES All Couples who will be celebrating their 25 th or 50 th wedding anniversaries any time in 2013 are invited to attend a special Mass here at our Church on June 2 nd at 12:15PM. All couples will receive a scroll commemorating this special occasion signed by Cardinal Dolan. A small reception will follow in the Rectory Meeting Room. If you would like to attend this celebration please call the Rectory week days between 9:00AM & 5:00PM. HOLY NAME SOCIETY The Holy Name Society is having their monthly meeting on Thursday, April 11 at 8:00PM in the large Rectory meeting room. Refreshments will be served. Please attend this meeting and new members are always welcome. Invitations for the Alumni Reunion on April 27 th should be in your hands if you graduated in 2005 or earlier. Remember, we are looking to honor our 1962 and 1963 classes and hope we will have a great showing. Reservations are necessary this year to get an accurate count. No payment at the door. REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH ACT In his State of the State address, Governor Cuomo announced his support for a bill called the Reproductive Health Act. This is an extreme bill, and it would greatly expand abortion in New York State. It would declare abortion a fundamental right, and would ensure that abortion is legal through all nine months of pregnancy, for any reason. It would prevent any reasonable regulation such as parental notification or informed consent requirements, or bans on partial birth abortions. It would endanger women by allowing non-doctors to perform abortions. It could threaten the religious liberty of religious hospitals and health care workers by requiring them to cooperate in abortions. New York State already has far too many abortions over 30% of pregnancies end in abortion, over 110,000 each year. We don t need broader abortion laws. Please bring a few friends and have some fun. ALTAR SOCIETY NEWS The Altar Society will be meeting on Wednesday, April 10 at 7:30PM in the Rectory meeting. We are always looking for New Members. If you are interested please come to our meeting. The Food Pantry is in need of food to replenish the pantry. We are asking for tomato sauce, pasta, box or can juices, soups, cake mixes, frostings, oatmeal, cereal, crackers, rice, tuna fish, canned non-perishable goods, peanut & jelly.
