As the minister begins to serve those distributing the elements, that is your signal to come forward. However, individuals may commune at any time during the distribution of the elements. Wine will be found in the outside tray, grape juice in the inside tray. If you need to be served in your pew, please notify an elder or deacon. Gluten free bread is available upon request. You are welcome to participate in the Lord s Supper if you are a baptized Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, and a faithful member or adherent of this or some other congregation, recognized as belonging to the fellowship of Christian believers. If this does not describe you, we are glad you are here and commend to you this prayer for your use during the time of the Lord s Supper. Lord Jesus, you suffered on the cross for sinners to bear their sins away. Please, Lord Jesus, friend of sinners, take my sins. Help me to turn from my sins and follow you. Show me the way Lord Jesus, for you are the only one who has come down from Heaven to give all who trust in you eternal life. Amen. February 21 Women s Ministry Meeting March 6 Ash Wednesday Our Preacher this Evening The Rev. Mansour Khajehpour is presently stated supply (interim pastor) of our church in Lake Stevens, Washington. Born and raised in a Muslim family in Iran, radicalized in jihadist circles, he became a Christian under the most unusual of circumstances. Having heard his testimony at the most recent meeting of our presbytery, we thought that the congregation needed to hear this wonderful personal history. He will give his testimony and preach as only he can. You will not want to miss hearing him! Explanation of the Cover Symbol In the Greek language of the early Christian era abbreviations were typically the first and last letters of words, often with a superscription to indicate the missing letters. IC is a standard abbreviation of IHCOYC, the Greek Jesus, XC the abbreviation of XPICTOC, Christ; NIKA means He conquers. The symbol then reads Jesus Christ Conquers by the Cross or Jesus Christ Victor.

9 Our Preacher Next Sunday Evening Next Lord s Day evening, we look forward to having as our preacher the Rev. Dr. Greg Perry. After some years teaching New Testament at our Covenant Theological Seminary, Dr. Perry is now Vice President of Strategic Projects for Third Millennium Ministries. Third Mill, as it is often referred to, is an important provider of online free seminarylevel instruction for the church in parts of the world where pastors are in desperate need of theological instruction but cannot afford a typical residential seminary program. We are, of course, familiar with Third Mill though Jeff David s use of it in Cuba, Francis Foucachon s work translating the curriculum into French especially for use in francophone Africa, and most recently the Ebbers involvement in its translation into Romanian. Words of Faith Winter Edition Work is underway on the first of three issues of Words of Faith, our church newsletter, which will be coming out this year. Each 2019 installment will focus on one of these three themes: discipleship, evangelism, and worship. Within this edition s concentration on discipleship, we will consider Bible study, instruction, purposeful relationships, and so much more. Additionally, we will have our regular feature pieces like «Ask a Pastor» and «Meet Your Neighbor». Would you be interested in writing an article or adding a question to the mix? Annual Congregational Meeting & Dinner At the annual Congregational Meeting scheduled for this Wednesday, January 23 rd, in addition to the reports you are accustomed to receiving and the explanation of next year s budget, the congregation will be asked to approve Pastor Rayburn s call as Pastor Emeritus. Dinner begins at in DeSoto Hall followed by the meeting at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary. Abigail s Daughters Class (High School and Adult Women) Joy in Ministering to Shattered Lives Sunday, January 27, 9:4510:45 am Many of us avoid engaging with those who are suffering homelessness simply due to discomfort or guilt. Let s learn to be a friend to people living lives very different from our own! Connie Pfefferle is a critical care R.N. and also serves The Houses of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz (NRB). In both roles, Connie has learned practical ways to display the beauty of Christ to those who have lost everything, including hope. Hear about Connie s walk in faith and be inspired by her contagious enthusiasm for loving her neighbor. And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel s will save it. Mark 8:3435 Adult Sunday School The Women of Faith Class I (Room 117) Martyrs and Missionaries and the Persecuted Church: In this Sunday School class we are reading stories and books about past and current missionaries and persecuted Christians around the world. We want to be aware of the plight of the persecuted church of today and to pray for them regularly. The Women of Faith Class II (Covenant High School Office) We are studying together the book Union with Christ by Rankin Wilbourne. The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) Elder Mike Pfefferle continues his fascinating and very valuable introduction to early Christianity. High School Sunday School (North Side of DeSoto Hall) Pastor Nicoletti and the high school class continue the second unit of their ongoing study of Dante s Divine Comedy: Dante s Purgatorio: An Allegorical Study of Repentance.

10 Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) Kathy Lewis facilitates the Better English class where individual American partners help each international who wishes to read or discuss material at an appropriate level of English. Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week: Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Old Town Anthem coffee shop at 2312 N. 30th St., Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote, Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a form of words to fit it, so that you... learn the way to remedy your ill. Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the Book of Acts as we pray for our concerns and the world around us. College & Career Community Groups College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to do life together throughout the week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We have one group that meets on Thursdays at Nate and Rachel Shelden s home at 6:30, and another group that meets on Tuesdays at Isaac and Elsie Dye s home at 6:30.
