For many, becoming holy may not be seen as a desirous goal. We are all called to be holy but maybe not in the way we often imagined. Holiness is nothing more than doing ordinary things with great love and faith. St. Teresa of Calcutta says, "Holiness is not something extraordinary. Holiness is for every one of us as a simple duty -- the acceptance of God with a smile, at all times, anywhere and everywhere." Holiness has to do with understanding that our faith has a lot to do with how we see and live life. It is that simple. Are you willing to go about the simple business of your life and be holy? 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On July 25, 1993, former Bishop Bosco traveled to for the happy occasion of the dedication of the new church structure of St. Mary, Mother of God Parish. In a letter to the parish family, the bishop wrote, "Your building, however is only a building unless it is filled with joyful worshipers." On Sunday, July 22, at the 11 a.m. Mass, we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the "new" church and have a reception in St. Mary/St. Gabriel Hall afterwards. It is a joy to be here for this celebration and I pray that many more celebrations of God's love will happen in our beautiful church. Bishop Malesic is the main celebrant at the Youth Honors Mass on Sunday, July 15 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. We have a number of youth from our partner parishes who will be recognized for their service. The St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish youth are: Trista Bowser, Matthew Hiles, Gabriel Szep, Nolan Turco and Rebecca Webb. The St. Mary, Mother of God Parish youth are: Joseph Harkleroad, Nicholas Hill and Samuel Skamai. I want to congratulate them and ask all parishioners to pray for them and their families. In, the Fort Armstrong Folk Festival will be here in just over 2 weeks, August 2-5. I ask that our parishioners help to make our involvement a success. We will have our famous apple dumplings, Bingo and paid parking this year. We need a little of your time to help in this major parish fundraiser. Father Doug I recently got into an Uber car for a ride to the airport. I like talking with drivers if I sense they are open to it. On this particular day, the driver was very talkative and told me about how he was an inventor. He had several patents and was about to sell one of his inventions for a ton of money. We had a wonderful conversation, and he was such a warm and interesting person. I asked him why, with his good fortune with inventions and all the work he was doing aside from Uber, he was still driving. He smiled and said, "There are still some people I haven't met yet. I never know who is going to get into my car next." What an amazing answer! Too often we live our lives in semi-solitude, walking around with blinders on so we don't make eye contact. We have our family and friends, but we don't get up each day wondering with excitement who we will meet that day. God puts people into our path all the time. Maybe we need them or they need us. But we do not walk through this world alone. If we choose to not be mindful of who is in our midst, we miss the chance to receive whatever gifts they may have to give. In the same vein, they miss out on what we have to share with them if we stay closed and quiet. Pay attention to those around you. God may come to you in the words of a friend, the request of a family member, or in the wisdom of an Uber driver. -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Apple Dumpling Booth Sponsorship Opportunity Once again this year we are seeking festival sponsorships to help us offset the rental cost of our Apple Dumpling Booth during the festival. A sponsorship donation of $70 will entitle an individual, family or business to be acknowledged in our bulletin and listed at the Apple Dumpling Booth. The Knights of Columbus and Catholic Daughters of the Americas Invite You to Join Us for Our Fifth Family Picnic! The Knights of Columbus, Council #1011 and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Patricia #998 are having their Fifth joint family picnic on Sunday, August 12, at Renshaw Family Farm, from Noon until Members and their families or guests are invited for food, fun, and more! There is no cost to attend but we ask you to register so we have enough food to accommodate all. Bake for the Bake Sale We need our bakers to bake something for this big day. Donate Theme Baskets We need parishioners to come up with theme baskets that we will raffle off. Ideas include: Sports, vacation, food, drink, entertainment, etc. Make a Donation Donations can be sent into the parish office or dropped in the offertory on the weekend. Please write on the envelope that your donation is for the Community Street Fair. We will recognize those individuals who donate in a bulletin after the fair. Pass on the Good News! What good news? - The Good News of Jesus Christ and our Catholic Faith This fall, children and youth in Kindergarten through Grade 12, will be given the opportunity to learn more about Jesus and the Catholic Faith. Faith Formation Classes begin September 16, YOU can help them learn and grow in faith by becoming a catechist or an aide in our Faith Formation Program. As you nurture the faith of our young, you will learn and grow as well! As many of our catechists have said, I learn so much from the children! If a weekly commitment is not possible, we will be happy to work with your schedule. Volunteers for our monthly Youth Ministry sessions are also welcome. Training, materials and support are provided.
