What does God want me to do? In discerning answers to life's questions and difficulties, it doesn't matter what humans permit or even what popular choice dictates. It is what God says that matters. God's will is often dismissed, even by those who claim to believe in Him. We discern God's will by developing a strong and mature prayer life, listening to Scripture and church teaching, consulting church tradition, paying attention to the rhythms of life, and seeking His presence in all we experience and observe. As Jesus realized in his final hours, it is "not my will but yours be done." Are we ready to follow his example and give ourselves over to what God wants? Please remember in your prayers the soul of parishioner Barbara Kubatko, and Ruth Swoger, mother of parishioner Kryss Craig, who passed away last week. May God grant them eternal rest and peace. The Sanctuary Candle in is burning this week in wedding anniversary remembrance of Adam & Rose Porada by Granddaughter, Rosemary Soltis Ruark & Bruce. 3 Resp Life Sunday ~ October 7 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As promised, Bishop Malesic will be coming to to hold a listening session on the recent Grand Jury Report and the events that have evoked a great deal of pain, sadness, confusion and uncertainty for the faithful of our diocese. He will be at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish on Monday, November 5, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. I hope you can attend. Divine Redeemer School will be having a Cash Bash in St. Mary Parish Hall, on Saturday, November 3, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Stay tuned for more details! This is the first weekend in October and the annual October count is underway. During the entire month, the ushers will be counting everyone who is at Mass. I ask that each parishioner attend Mass at the parish in which you belong. If you attend Mass somewhere else, you are helping that parish, not your own. It is very important to remember that the October count numbers are used by the diocese in planning for the future. The weekend of October 27 and 28 we will celebrate our 10th Anniversary as Partner Parishes with two guest presiders and homilists. Father Efren Ambre, our first parochial vicar, and Monsignor Roger Statnick, former vicar general of our diocese, will be here to celebrate the weekend Masses. More details to follow! Finally, Monday, October 8, is Columbus Day and the feast day of The Knights of Columbus. Our council, #1011, is growing and very active. I want to thank the officers and brother Knights for their prayers and support. May Jesus continue to guide them on their journey helping our families to promote and defend our faith. 4 St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish News Consider donating a themed basket for our Holly Berry Basket Raffle. Your generous donation of the basket will be acknowledged on the basket at the event and in our parish bulletin. The process is easy: Pick up a basket in the back of the church after Masses on October 13 & 14 or October 20 & 21. Pick a theme from the list provided or create your own and register your theme & name. List of theme basket ideas is available on our parish website and in the church. Fill the basket with theme items. No need to wrap the basket - we will do it for you! Return the filled basket to the Parish Office or church by November 12. What a wonderful fun way to support our parish! Cemetery Care Collection for St. Joseph & St. Mary Cemeteries This Weekend All donations to this special collection are much needed and will help to pay for grass cutting and fall clean up of leaves at both of our parish cemeteries. A special Cemetery Offering envelope is included in your envelope packet. Thank you for your faithful stewardship to our parish cemeteries. At the regular monthly meeting of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Patricia #998, Brendan Boylan was recognized for his achievements in the CDofA 2018 Education Contest. Brendan won first place for his computer art work at the local, state, and national level. Brendan, a ninth-grade home schooled student, is the son of Ken and Darlene Boylan. 5 St. Mary, Mother of God Parish News Journey to Confirmation During the week, our young parishioners in the 8th Grade who are preparing to celebrate Confirmation will be reflecting on the mystery of the Trinity and the gift of the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Join them by reflecting on the power and presence of the Holly Spirit in your life. The Knitting Group will meet on Monday, October 8, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Room. Beginners and experienced individuals who knit and/or crochet are very welcome. Sacred Heart St. Mary Cemetery Fall Cleanup Fall cleanup of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Cemetery will soon take place. Please remove old, weathered and seasonal items and flowers from gravesites before October 19. Any items remaining after this date will be removed and discarded at the discretion of Cemetery Committee members. Thank you for your cooperation. St. Mary Cemetery, Notice of Violations Several years ago, our parish established Rules and Regulations for St. Mary Cemetery. These Rules and Regulations were developed to help us continue to provide an attractive and well maintained final resting place for our loved ones. The Regulations include provisions limiting plant material and above grade edging. These are necessary to allow for efficient mowing and trimming and to protect equipment and maintenance personnel. Recently, cemetery personnel identified several violations of the Regulations. Please check your family plot or contact the parish office to see if it is in compliance. Please make arrangements to have any violations corrected prior to the annual fall cleanup on October 20. If you are unable to make arrangements for the removal of the violation, cemetery personnel will be able to do so at that time.
