It makes a huge difference using our own eyes and not those of God. God knows that we live in an imperfect world filled with suffering, pain, difficulties, disappointments, and death; all part of the mix. Jesus shows us by example that when we encounter hardships God transforms them into something better. We do not need to despair. God gives us hope. When we view our lives through God's eyes and not our own this gift of hope and transformation becomes very apparent. We must lose our lives in order to gain them. 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On Monday, September 4, we celebrate Labor Day. Everyone is invited to the regional Mass that will be held in at We pray on this day for the rights of workers and that all who labor can obtain a fair and just wage. St. Joseph the Worker, the patron saint of workers, is a model for us in building up a loving and caring society on gospel values. Our children return to school on Tuesday after a long summer vacation. May God bless and protect our students, teachers, staff and parents in this new school year. We also hope that our students will stay away from drugs. Magisterial District Judge J. Gary DeComo will continue to work hard with Drugs Kill Dreams to ensure that our children and parents know of the deadly effects of drugs. Continued blessings to him and those involved in this important work. Last weekend, it was a joy to host 2 of the International Priests who are coming to our diocese to help. Father Teodoro Cortezano, from the Archdiocese of Caceres in The Philippines and Father Gade Show Reddy from the Archdiocese of Hyderabad, India. Thank you for the kindness and support that you showed them during their first visit to Armstrong County. Finally, I have information concerning the recent St. Mary, Mother of God Community Street Fair. YOU can help our children learn and grow in our Catholic faith by becoming a Catechist for our Faith Formation program, which begins on September 17. Training, materials and support will be provided. If you are a student in grades 8 thru 12, you are invited to become a Catechist s Aide. CD of A Prayer Shawl Ministry CD of A Prayer Shawl Ministry, a group of knitters and crocheters meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m., in St. Mary Parish Center, to share fellowship and prayers over the work of their hands - prayer shawls given, free of charge, to those in need of comfort or healing. Their next meeting will take place on September 5. Communion Calls The homebound parishioners of St. Mary, Mother of God Parish, will be visited on Wednesday, September 6. If you know of anyone who should be included in these monthly visits, please contact the parish office. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God s varied Grace. 1 Peter 4:10 Are you looking for a way to share your faith, time and talents with others? Do you enjoy working with children and youth? The St. Mary, Mother of God Faith Formation Program needs you! Currently, we are in need of volunteers to assist Catechists in the classroom. An Aide plays a very important part in Faith Formation Class not only is the Aide beneficial to the Catechist; but ultimately, the children receive a more focused and productive lesson. It is not necessary to have a child in the program, any member of our parish family who has completed the necessary clearances is welcome. If a weekly commitment is not possible, we will be happy to work with your schedule. Please, prayerfully, consider sharing your faith in this most rewarding ministry! Shannock Valley Food Pantry The Shannock Valley Food Pantry is requesting that we donate cereal during the month of September, in addition to other non-perishable food items and paper products. Your donations can be placed in the narthex of the church. Altar Rosary Society Meeting Members of the Altar Rosary Society will meet on Wednesday, September 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Mary/St. Gabriel Hall. We hope to see you there! Mother Mary s Table Mother Mary's Table will begin our third year of serving soup and fellowship on Monday, September 11, from to in the church hall. You will love our homemade soups, breads and desserts, but will be overwhelmed by the fellowship you will witness. Saint Francis House of Hope will also be on hand at each gathering to distribute fresh fruit and vegetables.
