3 Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 11, 2018 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This Wednesday we enter the holy season of Lent with Ash Wednesday. We will begin by receiving ashes and then starting our time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. St. Bonaventure stated, "Three things are necessary to everyone: truth that brings understanding, love of Christ which brings compassion and endurance of hope which brings perseverance." I hope and pray that our 40 day journey will be one of great renewal and joy for all. St. Padre Pio said it very well, "Pray, hope and don't worry." In, the parish, with help from the Knights of Columbus Council #1011, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Patricia #998 will hold our Lenten Fish Dinners each Friday in Lent at the St. Mary Parish Hall. Afterwards, make plans to join the youth in church and pray the Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. In, the parish will hold our Lenten Fish Fry Dinners each Friday at St. Mary/St. Gabriel Hall. I invite everyone to enjoy a great dinner and fellowship each Friday during Lent. We need help at each of these important parish fundraisers and I ask that you consider giving us some of your time this year. I and Father Medil appreciate your good stewardship. Bishop Malesic will be coming to on Friday, March 23 for the Lenten Fish Fry dinner and we will have the Stations of the Cross, led by the bishop at 7:00 p.m. only on that day. The rest of Lent in, this annual Lenten prayer will take place on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. In, Stations of the Cross will be held each Friday at 12:05 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m. Also, we have the Lenten booklets entitled, "Finding Hope When Life Hurts" by Father Joseph Sica available to each parish family at both of our parishes. The Catholic Men's Fellowship will be hosting the series on the Sacraments by Matthew Leonard beginning Monday, February 12 and then each Monday of Lent, in the St. Mary Parish Center, from 7:15 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. All are welcome to this exciting series focusing on our life in Jesus Christ. There is no registration or fee, so just come and take time for yourself during Lent. There are many things going on in our partner parishes to help you have a great spiritual journey this Lent. In addition, daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, praying the Holy Rosary are wonderful ways to form holy lives in preparation for the Easter festivities. Since I have quoted a couple of saints, I wrap up with a quote from St. John Chrysostom, bishop and doctor of the Church, "Fasting of the body is food for the soul." May each of us fast from sin and old ways and embrace the new life from Christ and the food for the soul in Lent Father Doug

St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe LENTEN FISH DINNERS Begin on Friday, February 16! It s not too late to let us know that you can help with our Lenten Fish Dinners. Consider giving us a few hours of your time to help make our Lenten Fish Dinners a success! Call St. Mary Parish Office at this week and let us know you are available to help with any of the following: Greeting guests, seating guests, serving dinners, handling beverages, helping with dessert table, resetting or bussing tables or clean up after 6:30 p.m. Your help will be greatly appreciated! Please help us get off to a good start by donating a dessert! Cakes, Pies, Cookies, Sweets Donations Needed for Our Fish Dinners! You may drop off your dessert each Friday during Lent from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. If able, please bring your dessert earlier in the day, so we have sufficient time to cut it and prepare it for serving. These funds will assist our community s efforts to provide for those who turn to us in time of need. Choir Rehearsals Lent ~ Easter Seasons The next Choir Rehearsal will be on Thursday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. The Shannock Valley Food Pantry is requesting that we donate cereal for the month of February. Your donations can be placed in the narthex of the church. Thank you for your generosity. The Friendship Circle will meet on Thursday, February 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Plumville Fire Hall. Please remember to bring a covered dish to share. St. Mary, Mother of God LENTEN FISH FRY DINNERS Begin on Friday, February 16 Much help is needed to ensure the success of this fundraising event for St. Mary, Mother of God Parish. In addition to Friday evenings, help is needed with food prep on Thursday mornings after the daily Mass. Sign-up sheets listing areas of help on Fridays are located on the table in the narthex of the church. We welcome adults, and invite the teen members of our parish. Please consider giving just a few hours a week to help support this effort. For more information, contact Betty Rose at the parish office at Once again this year, Mother Mary's Table will be giving $10 vouchers for Lenten fish fry dinners to needy members of our parish family as well as needy families from the community who come to the Shannock Valley Food Pantry and Mother Mary's Table. St. Mary, Mother of God Youth Ministry will sponsor a basket raffle during this year s Lenten Fish Fry Dinners - which begin on February 16. We will be selling tickets for 1 large basket with the winning ticket to be drawn at the final Fish Fry on March 23. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to aid our youth in participating in upcoming events sponsored by the Diocese of Greensburg. February 11, 2018 February 11 is World Day of the Sick, an observation started by Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. The day coincides with the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes.
