Kulick, JCL From Our Pastor: The Reverend Monsignor Larry J. Kulick, JCL, V.G. TOO MUCH INFORMATION There is a common expression: Too much information! We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don t want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple question, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he often does, Jesus answers a question with a question; today it s about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John s outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been too much information for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this information, though it can sometimes seem too much for us, is essential for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Saint Mark today, we learn this information. It is in suffering, in weakness, in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. It is the information we need to find our place and come to be honored in the reign of God. Thank you A sincere thank you to everyone who worked so hard last weekend to prepare for our Mystery Dinner Theatre and made it such a great success. It was truly a wonderful evening of laughter, delicious food and fellowship. All your hard work for this fall fundraiser was so greatly appreciated. A very special thank you to the members of the Rosary Altar Society that worked so hard preparing and serving the delicious food. Thank you to all those who setup and stayed to help clean up and wash dishes and especially for all those that attended. A full report detailing our profit and expenses will be released soon. Book of Remembrance The Remembrance Book listing names of our faithful departed is now available at the Church entrance near our Book of Prayer Intentions for you to inscribe the names of your family or friends who have died. This Book will be placed in the Sanctuary on All Souls Day and will remain there during the month of November as a reminder of our prayers for all the faithful departed. STEWARDSHIP REPORT October 12, 2018 & October 13, 2018 Income Budget Difference $2, $3, $ - 1, Annual Missionary Cooperation Plan Appeal The Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary wish to thank you for your generous response to their mission appeal. Your interest and concern is a real source of encouragement to them and their many missionary endeavors throughout the world. Please be assured of a continuous remembrance in the prayers of all the Sisters. May God continue to bless you and your families. Sister Ellen All Souls Day Mass We have sent a special invitation to all the families who have lost a loved one in the past year and that were buried from our parish. We will be remembering these deceased individuals in a special way on All Souls Day at 7:00 p.m. Mass on Friday, November 2, There will be a reception immediately following Mass for family, friends and all parishioners in the Parish Social Hall. The memorial crosses with the names of the deceased that have been hung in the church this past year will be given to a family representative at this Mass. A special remembrance candle will be lit for these individuals in their memory during this Mass. All parishioners are invited to attend this special memorial Mass. A list of those individuals being remembered will be included in next week s bulletin. Outreach Ministry Prayer Chain Saint James Parish has many parishioners that are ill at home and also in the hospital and they would be grateful to be remembered in your prayers. Outreach Ministry is asking that if there are any parishioners that would be interested in joining to become a member of the Prayer Chain and would pray for those in need, to please contact Mrs. Barb Carney at A prayer chain request does not have to include just Saint James Parishioners, anyone in need of prayers can be added to this special prayer list. Annual October Count We will continue until the end of month to record the number of people that will be attending the weekend Masses and will submit these figures to the Diocese. This is a process that is completed each year and is used as one of the factors to assess the vitality of parishes throughout the Diocese of Greensburg. It is so important to be counted and show how truly strong and vital our parish is. We hope to fill our pews! Thank you. 5 NEWS IN THE DIOCESE OF GREENSBURG Saint Joseph Altar Rosary Society Derry Saint Joseph Rosary Altar Society will hold an afternoon of spiritual reflection at Saint Joseph Church, Derry on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The reflection will be led by Fr. Angelo Geiger, a Franciscan Priest who has lectured extensively on Marian Theology and spiritually both in the US and abroad. No sigh-up required. All are welcome. Bingo Saint John - Latrobe The Rosary Altar Christian Mothers Society of Saint John The Evangelist Church, 306 St. John Drive, Latrobe, PA will be having a Bingo on Sunday, October 28, 2018 in the Parish Center. Becker of the Saint Vincent Seminary faculty will lead a trip to the Oberammergau Passion Play June 10-21, The trip includes visits to Poland and the Czech Republic.
