We live our lives as if what we see before us is all there is and almost place the truth of eternity on hold until it is absolutely necessary to confront it. We fail to see the connection between earth and heaven and to see the road of transformation we are all called to travel. When Jesus was transfigured before his disciples, they saw the truth of who He was. Earth and heaven were wed that day, just as they will one day come together for us. God desires to transfigure us as well, changing our earthly body into our heavenly one. We miss our true destiny if we don't factor this into the choices we make and the paths we choose to walk. 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Tuesday, March 19, is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of The Blessed Virgin Mary. On this feast day, we remember the gift that St. Joseph is to the Church. We never hear him speak, we hear of his listening to God. That is a good example of what we are to do now in Lent. Listen to God and respond to the call with love. Mass for the day will be in at 8:30 a.m. St. Joseph, pray for us! This weekend I am preaching at all of our Masses for the 2019 Diocesan Lenten Appeal, "Open your heart to HOPE." In, the diocesan goal is $44,076 and the parish goal is $52,000. We hope to raise at least $7,924 over our diocesan goal to help us fund upgrading our St. Mary Parish Hall restrooms and entrance area. In, the diocesan goal is $20,259 and the parish goal is $26,000. We hope to raise at least $5,741 over our diocesan goal to help us upgrade our existing air conditioning unit in St. Mary/ St. Gabriel Hall. The new system will be more efficient and cost effective. As you can see, we are investing in both of our parish halls. These halls not only are used by the parish families, but are used by the communities for various functions. St. Mary Parish Hall and St. Mary/St. Gabriel Hall are inviting and welcoming not only to our parishioners, but many from our area. I am proud of both of our halls and how together we are working to build up our parishes and communities by the many things that take place there each week. I ask each parish family to be generous and to be involved in the DLA this year. Your generosity makes all the difference in the success of our mission. Social chairman is Dolores Croyle. Ministerial Association Lenten Series 2019 The Ministerial Association is presenting a series of Lenten services for the community. The second of the evening services will be held Tuesday, March 19, at 7:00 pm at St. Luke s United Church of Christ, 333 N McKean St.,. The speaker will be Rev. Sue Foster. The second of the Lenten luncheons will be at noon on Wednesday, March 20, at Grace Presbyterian Church, corner of North Jefferson and Arch Streets,, the host church of all the luncheons. The message will be delivered by Lt. Luke Barney of The Salvation Army. Dessert Donations Appreciated! Our sincere thank you to all who donated desserts for our first two Lenten Fish Dinners. Many desserts are needed for each dinner. Please continue to drop off your desserts each Friday during Lent from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Parish Hall. Choir Rehearsals Lent ~ Easter Seasons The next Choir Rehearsal will be on Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. The Shannock Valley Food Pantry is requesting that we donate cereal for the month of March. Refresher Workshop For All Lectors St. Mary, Mother of God Parish Tuesday, March 26, at 7:00 p.m. St. Mary, Mother of God Church, Congratulations to Sam & Julia Sonni who celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on March 5, May God bless them both, now and in the future years to come. Did you know your old shoes can help spread the Gospel? Through the month of March the Friends of Samaritan Purse are participating in a fundraiser where there is nothing to buy or sell. All we need is your support and your gently worn used shoes. The shoes will help support our program in Ghana, Haiti, & Bolivia. It is hard to believe that an estimated 600 million pairs of shoes go into America s landfills. The majority of these shoes can still be worn. The shoes that we collect will be kept from landfills and will help others in developing countries start micro-businesses that will create a sustainable income for their families and at the same time, raise much needed funds for our team. Sue Novosel snovosell@4lpi.com 24 Hours for the Lord at St. Thomas More University Parish April Hours for the Lord was started in 2014 by Pope Francis as a way of encouraging each local church to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation, along with Eucharistic Adoration, available for a continuous period of 24 hours. 24 for the Lord will be held at St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana, beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, through 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, featuring Praise and Worship Friday, April 5 from 8:30-10 p.m. For more information, please visit Cabbage Roll Sale St. Lawrence Church is taking orders for cabbage rolls.
