We can become tired. Because of all of the energy needed to manage our day-to-day routines, our spiritual lives can get neglected. Anger, apathy, bitterness, and competition readily distort our relationships with one another and with God. We are asked to imitate God and to put love, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and gentleness over all things. We need to develop a strong life of prayer in order to bring balance to our lives and to realize who we really are. Please remember in your prayers the soul of Sylvia Bohan as well as Jennie Manchas, mother of Father Lawrence Manchas, pastor of Saint Paul Parish, Greensburg and Administrator of Saint Bruno Parish, Greensburg, who passed away last week. May God grant them eternal rest and peace. 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The next two Wednesdays give us Marian feast days to celebrate. This Wednesday, August 15, is the Solemnity of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day of obligation. It is also the patronal feast day in our diocese. See the Mass schedule for the partner parishes on this page. Next Wednesday, August 22, is the Memorial of The Queenship of The Blessed Virgin Mary. On that day we will have a noon Mass in which will include the Anointing of the Sick. Afterwards, the C.D. of A. Court Patricia #998 will have a luncheon in St. Mary Parish Hall for everyone. Parishioners from our partner parishes are all welcome to come and rejoice and receive these 2 healings sacraments. Since we will have this noon Mass, the Mass will be cancelled for just that day. In, I want to thank everyone who helped in any way during the Fort Armstrong Folk Festival. Many parishioners came forward and assisted to make this festival a great success. Your support is appreciated. Now, we await the festival financial report and I will share it as soon as I can. Let us thank God for all the blessings that we received during this annual event. Father Doug Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Wednesday, August 15 Holy Day of Obligation & Patronal Feast Day of Our Diocese The Assumption proclaims the reality that Mary was taken up body and soul into heaven. This was God's special gift to her in response to her total giving of self to God's plan and will. Today we join in her happiness. We look forward to the day when we too can share it with her. In the meantime, we ask her to remember us as we continue our journey on earth and to intercede for us with her Son that we may remain faithful to our call as faithful disciples. May we know God s will for us at all times and, like Mary, say our unconditional Yes to what he wants for us. ANOINTING MASS Wednesday, August 22 Mass at 12:00 Noon St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe On Wednesday, August 22, at 12:00 Noon, we will be offering the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick in the context of the celebration of Mass. During Anointing Mass, the sacrament of the anointing of the sick will be offered to those in need. A complimentary luncheon sponsored by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Patricia #998 will follow the Anointing Mass in St. Mary Parish Hall for you and your family or friends. 5 St. Mary, Mother of God Parish News Pass on the Good News! Finance Council Meeting What good news? The Good News of Jesus Christ and our Catholic Faith This fall, children and youth in Kindergarten through Grade 12, will be given the opportunity to learn more about Jesus and the Catholic Faith. Faith Formation Classes begin September 16. YOU can help them learn and grow in faith by becoming a catechist or an aide in our Faith Formation Program. As you nurture the faith of our young, you will learn and grow as well! As many of our catechists have said, I learn so much from the children! If a weekly commitment is not possible, we will be happy to work with your schedule. Volunteers for our monthly Youth Ministry sessions are also welcome. Training, materials and support are provided. Shannock Valley Food Pantry For the month of August, the Shannock Valley Food Pantry is asking for donations of canned fruit. Your donations can be placed in the narthex of the church. Items will be collected from our church on the last Saturday of the month. Thank you for your generosity! Are you or someone you know interested in becoming Catholic? RCIA, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a program of preparation for adults seeking to enter the Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Baptism or are seeking to complete their Christian Initiation through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion. Who is this program for? 1. Those who have never been baptized, who wish to become Catholic. 2. Those who have been baptized in a protestant church, who wish to become Catholic and receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. 3. Those who have been baptized Catholic, but never made the sacraments of Confirmation and/or Holy Communion and are ready to practice their faith.
