God desires to lead us with His mercy and justice. These are essentials in God's kingdom and some of the gifts Christ's future coming will bring. But our world's systems do not place emphasis on these values. We are called to straighten the path to Christ. In a world that places value on things that are counter to our call, how do we respond? We need to learn to discern what is of real value and then take the risk of bringing it into the marketplace. 3 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I want to share with you how working together can produce great results. When the power went out a couple of weeks ago due to bad weather, a wedding rehearsal and wedding was scheduled in. Not knowing when the power would come back on, friends of Amy Lasslo and Ryan Riexinger called me to see what could be done. Since the wedding was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, we could not have it in because of the 4 p.m. Mass. So, I called Father Ricky Cortez, the pastor at Christ, Prince of Peace Parish and explained what was going on and asked about the parish schedule for that day. We were blessed that the church was available and Father Ricky graciously offered the use of it so that the rehearsal and wedding would go on without a glitch. Now, Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Anna Riexinger are married and it could not have been done without the hospitality of Father Ricky, Father Alan and the parish staff. Everything worked out well and I want to thank my brother priests and those who worked together to produce such a great day that will be remembered by all forever. Wednesday, December 12, is our patronal feast day in. I hope and pray that you will be able to come and celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe with Mass at 7:00 p.m. May Mary continue to lead us to Jesus and building up our community with prayer and service. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! Make plans to join us for our New Year's Eve Social, from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Mary Parish Hall, with live entertainment by parishioners, Bob and Bobby Skamai. Tickets are on sale after Masses only next weekend and in the parish offices during regular office hours. Tickets are $10.00 per person. All are welcome! Finally, next Sunday in a Children and Family Mass, with an Advent program and fellowship will be held. First Reconciliation Reminder First Reconciliation will be held on Saturday, December 15, at 12:00 Noon during the Advent penance service at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. ~ A Special Morning of Prayer & Fellowship Planned ~ Children & Family Mass Advent Program & Fellowship Sunday, December 16 At this Sunday morning Mass, our children from Faith Formation will serve as lectors, cantors, ushers, greeters and they will assist in providing music for the Mass. 5 St. Mary, Mother of God Parish News Youth Ministry Grades 6-12 Angel Memorial Tree Angel ornaments, to be hung on the Angel Memorial Tree, are once again being sold during Advent. The handmade angels can be purchased for $5 each "in memory of" or "in honor of" a loved one. The last chance to buy them in the church narthex before Masses is this weekend, December 8 & 9. The Angels will decorate the narthex Christmas tree over the holidays and can be taken home when the season is over. The Angel Memorial Tree is sponsored by the Good Samaritan Ministry, and all proceeds will be used to help those in need within our parish. Knitting Group The Knitting Group will meet on Monday, December 10, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Room. For more info, contact Mary Ellen at Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament St. Mary Memorial Brick Order Reminder This Wednesday, December 12 5:00 p.m. to Come and spend some quiet time with our Lord. The St. Mary Cemetery Committee is offering memorial bricks to be integrated into the St. Mary Mother of God Chapel walkways. Brick order forms are available in the narthex of the church, or you may contact John Piscolish for an order form. The cost is $125 per brick.
