Does your heart rejoice and sing, or are the pressures and burdens of life weighing you down? We can easily become overwhelmed. The weaknesses and sins of life, indeed our own weakness and sin, eat away at the joy and hope God wants us to know. Those who are grounded in their faith and possess deep spiritual lives know that God is near. Realizing this puts life into perspective. We really want to be free from our burdens but do not always know how to achieve this. We keep stumbling and falling. Advent is a time when we can learn to "do life differently," just like John the Baptist instructed the crowds. Joy and hope are the gifts God offers, not anxiety and despair. Our Sincere Congratulations to Leo James Sample Son of Shayne & Tricia (Thompson) Sample who was baptized in on December 9. 3 Happy Gaudate Sunday! We rejoice that The Lord is near. Christmas is coming quickly and we should be vigilant and continue to also prepare for when Jesus will come in glory and majesty. Many of you prepared by coming to the Holly Berry Fair on December 1. This year was the best. I want to thank all of those who came to minister and worked in this all day fundraiser. I am very happy to announce that our profit this year is $20, That is a $3, increase over last year. That is outstanding! I want to thank everyone who came and helped in anyway. The parish truly came together for this annual event in. If you were wondering, next year it will be held on Saturday, December 7, I want to thank those who helped in preparing for the welcome receptions for Father Victor in and. I know that he appreciated the time you took to come and meet him as he begins his ministry here. Special thanks to the Altar Rosary Society and C.D. of A. Court St. Francis #1726 in for working together to provide the refreshments. Today, December 16, it is good to have families gathering in at 9 a.m. for the Children and Family Mass, Advent Program and Fellowship. This is being done in response to having more involvement from our families and young parishioners. We are planning to do a Children and Family Mass in on Epiphany, Sunday, January 6. More details to follow. Finally, don't forget to come to The Sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas. This week on Tuesday, December 18, at 7 p.m., St. Mary, Mother of God Parish, will host the next Regional Advent Penance Service. Come and prepare The way of The Lord. Make plans to join us for our New Year's Eve Social on Monday, December 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Mary Parish Hall, with live entertainment by parishioners, Bob and Bobby Skamai. Our heartfelt thank you goes to all who planned, coordinated, set up and worked at the fair as well as to all those dedicated parishioners who worked for months prior to the fair in preparation for our big theme basket raffle. Preparations will begin after 11 a.m. Mass and continue throughout the day. Any amount of time your schedule will allow will be greatly appreciated. Faith Formation Christmas and New Year Break Classes for Grades K-12 will not be held on Sunday, December 23 and Sunday, December 30. All Classes will resume on Sunday, January 6. Mother Mary s Table Thank You During this Christmas season, Mother Mary's Table extends our sincere thank you to all the parishioners who work behind the scenes each month making homemade soups, breads, and desserts for our evening of soup and fellowship. We have been averaging over 200 bowls of soup served to those who attend as well as to the shut-ins to whom we deliver a hot meal. St. Mary Memorial Brick Order Reminder The St. Mary Cemetery Committee is offering memorial bricks to be integrated into the St. Mary Mother of God Chapel walkways.
