No one has an exclusive claim on Christ and His birth not only transcends time and space but earthly boundaries as well. Every human being is a child of God. Jews and Gentiles alike are all coheirs, partners and members of the same body. This insight or epiphany is what we celebrate today. It also expresses our hope that one day every nation on earth will recognize and adore Jesus Christ. 3 January 7, 2018 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of The Epiphany Of The Lord, remembering when the Magi met Jesus and presented Him with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. This marks the first time that Jesus was revealed to all the nations. May we always bring our gifts to God and thank Him for the many gifts that He gives to us. Monday, January 8, is the feast of The Baptism of The Lord, the end of the Christmas season. It also reminds us of our own baptism and that we are called to holiness. Remember, each time you come into church, bless yourself with the holy water and thank God for your baptism. Now that we are in 2018, it is good to look at the dates on the liturgical calendar for the new year. Wednesday, February 14, Lent begins with Ash Wednesday Sunday, April 1 is Easter Sunday Thursday, May 10 is the Solemnity of The Ascension of The Lord Sunday, May 20 is the Solemnity of Pentecost Thursday, November 1 is the Solemnity of All Saints Sunday, December 2 is the First Sunday of Advent Tuesday, December 25 is Christmas Day In this new year, we continue to pray for peace and unity among all people. Catholic Daughters January Meeting The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Patricia #998, will be meeting on Tuesday, January 16, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Parish Hall. We will start with the rosary at 7 p.m. Please bring soup labels and box tops for Divine Redeemer School. We hope all our members will come in from the cold and enjoy great fellowship. Please join us as we honor the day that Jesus was revealed to the entire world. Additional boxed envelopes for children and youth are available on the Narthex table. It s Good for the Sole St. Mary, Mother of God Faith Formation Classes are collecting NEW socks of all sizes through January 31st. The socks will be distributed to the needy of our community at the Mother Mary s Table on February 12. Any remaining socks will be donated to local charitable organizations.
