Gaudete means "rejoice!" Our Scriptures provide us with wonderful images of healing, restoration, and justice. St. James reminds us to be patient as the coming of the Lord is at hand. But it is the prophet Isaiah who provides the encouragement we so desperately need. Our world and our country are in need of peace. We long for God's justice, which does not bring retribution but equity. Isaiah shows us that if we walk with God all of these things can be ours, not only in the future but now. 3 Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ, On Monday, December 12, in we will celebrate the patronal feast day for Our Lady of Guadalupe. Mass will be at 8:00 a.m. and then we will have coffee and donuts to help make the day special. May the Queen of the Americas intercede on our behalf and help us to bring Jesus to our community. This week the Advent Penance Services will begin with the first one scheduled on Tuesday, December 13 at St. Mary, Mother of God Parish at 7:00 p.m. Please invite family members and friends to come and experience the healing of God in The Sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas. Finally, I have to say that the generosity that was shown for the Holly Berry Fair was outstanding. The entire day as well as all of the preparation activity that took place prior to the fair was really uplifting. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe parishioners, the parish staff, local businesses and everyone who contributed in any way to this wonderful event. Thank you very much for not only a great day, but a great experience of parish. It took much time and effort by so many people to bring forth this year's fair that this can only be another gift from God. The overflowing support of Christmas with Santa, the bake sale, used Christmas items sale, surprise packages, greens & things, lunch, sold out 80 quarts of homemade soup and 280 chicken dinners will not be forgotten. Last but not least, it seems to me that those who came to the fair were very overwhelmed with this year s basket raffle which included 72 beautiful and valuable baskets. We could have not done this basket raffle without the generosity and hard work of so many and I thank you for it. It is my hope that as we get ready for Christmas and the calendar year of 2017, God will continue to guide us as we participate in bringing about His Kingdom in the families of our parish and in our local community. Faith Formation Students to Honor Our Lady of Guadalupe This Sunday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m. St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Our parish was truly blessed with overwhelming response of so many new as well as our seasoned volunteers from our parish who rose to the occasion and helped in so many way with our Holly Berry Fair this year. Our heartfelt thanks goes to those who planned, coordinated, set up and worked at the fair as well as all those dedicated volunteers who worked for months prior to the fair in preparation for our big theme basket raffle. Please join us after Mass and attend performance of our students in Faith Formation honoring the Patroness of the Americas and of our parish family. If you helped with Breakfast with Santa, worked in the kitchen, managed Bake Sale, Used Christmas Items Sale and Surprise packages, made and sold Christmas greens, helped with Soup Sale and the Chicken Dinner, set up or clean up of our parish hall, volunteered your time in any other way - the time and effort you put into this event was truly appreciated. Church-approved Marian apparitions always point to her Son, Jesus. For many of us with a strong Marian devotion, Mary is a pathway into a stronger relationship with our Lord. Her generosity shown to Juan Diego is the same generosity shown to each of us that choose to ask her intercession. Families pray for one another and she is a very prominent member of our family. May the miracle of Our Lady of Guadalupe be a sign of warmth for you in the cold of winter and of Advent hope for a Christ Child that has redeemed the world. Our heartfelt thanks also goes to everyone who in any way supported this important parish fundraising event - if you donated the them basket or items for our basket raffle, surprise packages, used Christmas items sale, items for our Christmas Greens sale, baked for the bake sale, enjoyed breakfast, lunch, or dinner, purchased Holly Berry raffle and basket raffle tickets, stopped in to browse and shop or supported this event in any other way - thank you! Thank you for a very successful Holly Berry Fair! The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe recalls the apparitions of Mary at the hill of Tepeyac to the native convert, St. Juan Diego. It is a feast for all of the countries of the Americas and an opportunity for us to reflect on the wisdom and example we gain from Mary. Always a mother to all, Mary stands before us again as an example of faith, hope, and love Religious Calendars On behalf of our parish family, sincere thank you to Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home and Todd Crissman for sponsoring our 2017 parish calendars. The calendars are now available in the narthex of the church. Help Us Prepare Our Church for Christmas Wednesday, December 21, at 7:45 p.m. Volunteers (especially men) are needed to set up Christmas trees and the platform for our nativity in the church. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thursday, December 22, beginning at On this day, we are in need of parishioners to help with preparation of our church environment for Christmas season, including the placement of flowers, cleaning and other important tasks. Please plan to join us for any part of the day as your schedule permits. No prior experience necessary!

5 St. Mary, Mother of God Parish News 2017 Religious Calendars Angel Memorial Tree Angel ornaments, to be hung on the Angel Memorial Tree, are once again being sold during Advent. The handmade angels can be purchased for $5 each "in memory of" or "in honor of" a loved one. The last chance to buy them in the church narthex before Masses is this weekend, December 10 & 11. The Angels will decorate the narthex Christmas tree over the holidays and can be taken home when the season is over. The Angel Memorial Tree is sponsored by the Good Samaritan Ministry. All proceeds will be used to help those in need within our parish. Knitting Group The Knitting Group will meet on Monday, December 12 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the lower level of the church. Beginners and experienced individuals who knit and/or crochet are very welcome. For more information, please contact Mary Ellen at Calendars have been provided to our parish community compliments of DiMaio's Supermarket in NuMine. The Associates of Mary will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, December 15, after the 8:30 a.m. Mass in the Sacred Heart Room. The topic is St. Matthew the Evangelist. For more information, contact Shirley at The next Choir Rehearsal will be held on Thursday, December 15, at 7:00 p.m. The Shannock Valley Food Pantry Needs Please continue to bring in non-perishable food items and paper products for the Shannock Valley Food Pantry which serves families in our local community. Items most in need are cereal, peanut butter, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, pasta, spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, crackers, canned tuna or chicken. Your donations can be placed in the fabric bins located under the table in the gathering space of the church. Your continued support of the Shannock Valley Food Pantry is greatly appreciated SANCTUARY CANDLE & TABERNACLE CANDLE INTENTIONS If you would like to remember a deceased loved one, have a special anniversary or a special intention, or you would like to honor someone, you can sponsor the Sanctuary Candle in or Tabernacle Candle in.
