4 Page Four Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time..June 10, 2018 CELEBRATE NEW VISIONS: Dynamic Catholic is a ministry that was founded in 2009 by Matthew Kelly. Please go to DynamicCatholic.com and discover the marvelous things that are happening all around the country. Its mission is "to re-energize the Catholic Church in America by developing worldclass resources that inspire people to rediscover the genius of Catholicism." The Church of the Incarnation is a member of their Ambassador Club which helps to support this ministry in a minimal way. We have recently become Parish Champions. As Parish Champions we will receive 44 books or 50 CD'S free each month for distribution to our parishioners. The monthly bulletin will include the title of the resource a few weeks before distribution. Many parishes have parish champions team members give out the resources at one Mass. This month I would like to invite some families to help with the distribution of " " Building Better Families" by Matthew Kelly. Some high points of this book are: " What Makes a Successful Parent?" " What are the five things children really need?" " Explore these and more thought provoking questions as you discover how to transform your family in to the bestversion-of-itself." If a family would like to be Parish Champions this month at the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, June 24th, please contact Noranne S. 5 Page Five Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time..June 10, 2018 A Weekly Bible Study 10 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Genesis 3:9-15 Once an idyllic place of harmony and God s bounty, the pristine imagery of Eden has now been shattered. Our first parents relationship with God is forever changed by their act of disobedience. The prospect of sin and its ugly consequences have now entered the world. Adam and Eve will know hardship and pain as they navigate the waters of life. In this passage we find Adam and Eve playing a blame game, passing the buck all the way down to the lowliest of creatures, the serpent. Adam even brings God into the exchange, blaming our Creator for putting a woman here. And the changed identity of the serpent will now represent sin and death. Lest we get absorbed into this dialogue, let us not miss the important truth in the final verse of today s first reading. Sin has barely entered the picture and God has already promised its demise. In the beginning of the final verse God says, I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers. Thus begins the battle of good and evil. But victory over sin and death will come to us by the woman s offspring. In the messianic verse which follows, God gives us the first announcement of a Redeemer. This verse has been referred to as the Protoevangelium, a first Gospel as it were. Easter assures us of the happy ending to this battle, the victory over sin and death. God will indeed put a woman here. It is the New Eve, the Virgin Mary, mother of our Redeemer. And we can all join in continuing to sing that glorious Exultet that we proclaimed earlier this year at the Easter Vigil, O truly necessary sin of Adam, destroyed completely by the death of Christ. O happy fault that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer.

Moran to locate patients that are in the hospital. Also, if you are admitted please let the hospital know that you are a member of Incarnation Church. Please notify the rectory if you have a loved one who is terminally ill before it becomes an urgent matter. Father Moran prefers to offer the Sacrament of the Sick while your loved one is still able to understand the Sacrament clearly. Come, O Holy Spirit, and Renew the Face of the Earth! 7 Page Seven Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time..June 10, 2018 PROMISES Today s liturgy is full of promises. The reading from Genesis promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God s will makes us family with Jesus, who forgives all sin and triumphs over evil. Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe really believe that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. We can promise ourselves to combat evil and sin by acting as sisters and brothers not only to the Lord, but to one another as well. TODAY S READINGS First Reading After Adam and Eve eat of the forbidden fruit, the L God puts enmity between the serpent and the woman (Genesis 3:9-15). Psalm With the Lord there is mercy, and fullness of redemption (Psalm 130). Second Reading We have an eternal dwelling from God, not made with hands (2 Corinthians 4:13 5:1). It is not simply a big church, as some say; some parish churches are larger. What makes a cathedral is the presence of the chair, called a cathedra (Latin for seat) reserved for the bishop. There are many instances in our country of a local church (diocese) outgrowing a cathedral. In Baltimore and St. Louis, the former cathedrals are historic treasures in the heart of the old city, but new and larger structures now function as the seat of the bishop. When a bishop dies or retires, it is said that the seat is vacant, and when the new bishop is installed, the central ritual is the moment when the decree of the Holy Father is read and the new bishop is escorted to the cathedra. No one but the bishop sits in the cathedra during a ritual, but in Los Angeles the cathedra in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is accessible, and no one seems to mind when a visitor tries the cathedra out for the bishop s point of view.
