3 Page Three Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord....April 8, 2012 New Day, bereavement support will be held on Tuesday, April 10th - 1pm in the rectory. This will be the final week for Faith Formation for Grades 7 & 8. Please join us after all the Masses next weekend in Fr. Crawford Hall for our Faith Fair. Come enjoy the beautiful expressions of Faith from our children in Grades K8. Children s Liturgy of the Word will be held next Sunday at 9:30am Mass. Please join us for refreshments in Fr. Crawford Hall after Mass! Children of the Diocese of Kikwit in the Congo; Once again we are raising funds to send children to a Catholic School in the Congo. It costs $ a year to send a child. Last year, Father Honore Kombe was overwhelmed as we presented $2,100 to send 21 impoverished children to Catholic School. Registration letters ( ) for the Faith Formation Program will be mailed at the end of next week. Regis. deadline 5/20/12. All families of new students must include a copy of child s Baptismal certificate unless baptized at Incarnation. Gr. 9 students (Sept.2012) will receive an invitation in Oct. for the Sacrament of Confirmation. There is a Project Baby Love collection this weekend. Disposable diapers & wipes are requested. Thank you so much! Easter Communion Regulation: Catholics are obliged to receive Communion at least once between the 1st Sunday of Lent & Trinity Sunday. Basketball: We will celebrate our wonderful season with a catered Basketball Dinner Banquet to be held on Monday, April 16th at 6pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. Parents are invited to share a dessert or 2 liter soda. All players and their families are invited to attend. Please let your coach know if your family is able to attend. We need You On Our Team on Saturday, May 5th. HomeFront Day is sponsored by HomeFront Inc., where parishes all over the state accept a project to repair and fix up the home of a needy family. Working together Incarnation, Corpus Christi and Sacred Heart have always had excellent teams participate for many years now. We need workers with a variety of skills as well as unskilled workers. The Court is scheduled to announce its ruling sometime in June. 6 Page Six Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord....April 8, 2012 REJOICE AND BE GLAD During the first three or four centuries of Christianity, if you asked a Christian to name the feast days of the church, your answer would have been a puzzled stare, for there was only one feast: the Resurrection of the Lord. Every Sunday was a feast celebrating the one great feast. Even though our calendar now has many beautiful and holy feasts, we must continually be called back to the fact that all these other feasts exist because of the feast of Christ s passover from death to life. The psalm today proclaims this message well: This is the day. It is not one of many days, but it is the day of all days, the one that gives all the others their origin, purpose, meaning, and destiny. Listen carefully to Peter s speech in Acts with its recollection of the Passion, to the words of the apostle Paul, and to the account of Mary Magdalene, John, and Peter finding the empty tomb, and you will hear the many wonderful works that God has done for us through Christ. Rejoice and be glad! TODAY S READINGS First Reading Peter is an eyewitness: The Lord is risen (Acts 10:34a, 37-43). Psalm This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad (Psalm 118). Today, in parishes around the world, new life is drawn from the waters of baptism, and new Christians are thrilled to see the crowds pour in to join in the feast. On Easter, we do not say the Creed, but rather renew our baptismal promises with hearty responses. We are taking the first joyful steps on a fifty-day-long celebration. In the southern hemisphere, the world is slipping into winter, but for us in North America, the earth itself seems to sing hymns to Christ s victory. Look this morning for the fresh paschal candle standing near the baptismal waters. It was consecrated in the hours of the night, will burn brightly for fifty days whenever we gather for prayer, and will glow again at every baptism and every funeral in the year ahead. Even though we may be gathered around the candle someday in sadness, today s joy at Christ s victory over death will shine through. THE RETURN OF EASTER The return of Easter should be to the Christian life the call of a trumpet. It is the news of a great victory. It is the solution of a great perplexity.
