Our Kindergarten Program Little Lambs still has room for 4 more children. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered at The Church of the Incarnation on Sunday, Nov. 8th at 2pm with a Mass. The Most Reverend Peter A. Rosazza D.D., Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus will celebrate. We ask those receiving the Sacrament please meet in Fr. Crawford at 1:15pm sharp on 11/8th. As we await the coming of the Holy Spirit upon our young people, the Confirmation Class of 2015, let us unite our prayers with them and their families and pray that the gifts of the Spirit will be renewed in each of us. 4 Page Four Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time..November 8, 2015 A Weekly Bible Study 32 nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Psalm 146 Psalm 146 is a perfect P.S to the reading from Revelation that we considered last week. Our final vision in last week s column was that of the vast multitude of the faithful joining in an unending chorus of praise. After all the prayers and praises of the Psalter, we are now at the end; all the instruments of creation and all the voices of human beings enter into a great chorus, a symphony destined never to end. * What an aweinspiring image! We not only stand in eternity with the faithful multitude, we join in a symphony of unending praise. Today s response to the first reading is one of the Hallel psalms that conclude the Psalter. The three Hallel collections, beginning with Psalm 113, were typically offered during annual feasts or at synagogue gatherings. It is believed that on the night of the Passover Jesus recited verses of these Hallel psalms and within them we see clearly expressions of his passion, death and resurrection. Psalm 146 exhorts the pilgrim to continue to trust in God as he recalls the marvelous works of the Lord. It is a song not only of promises fulfilled, but of the inauguration of a new kingdom of peace and security. We hear of God s care and concern for his chosen people. We hear also, particularly in today s selected verses, the Good News proclaimed loud and clear: The Lord secures justice for the oppressed, gives food to the hungry, sets captives free, gives sight to the blind, raises up those bowed down. These are the universal concerns of God s people echoed throughout all of salvation history. And in the kingdom to come, when all will be brought to completion, we will see the perfect fulfillment of these promises. In the meantime, our hearts and spirits offer our own Great Hallel, our Hallelujah of thanksgiving and praise to God for the marvelous works he has done for us! *From The Psalms: New Catholic Version, 2002, pg November 15 21, 2015 The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops invites families, parishes, schools, and other Catholic groups to participate in National Bible Week in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, Dei Verbum. This year's theme is "The Bible: A Book for the Family." Numerous resources can be found on the website, bible/national-bible-week/index.cfm. Family resources include key church documents on Sacred Scripture, a ritual for enthroning the Bible in the home, suggestions for making God s word a part of home life, using scripture in prayer and family gatherings, and embracing the practice of Lectio Divina.

Children s Liturgy of the Word (CLW) is celebrating 15th years of ministry! What a blessing this ministry has been for our parish and our children! But all ministries are only as rich as their resources. CLW has been seeking new Ministers of the Word to bring the gospel message to our children. We thank all our very dedicated ministers who have served CLW for many years and continue to lead our children but we are in need of more individuals and families. We welcome all who are interested, especially parents and grandparents. The commitment is minimal and the rewards are bountiful! 6 Page Six Thirty Second Sunday in Ordinary Time..November 8, 2015 GIVING ALL Trusting widows play a significant role in this weekend s readings. At the point of poverty, when giving even the smallest amount of what they had could imperil their health and well-being, they trusted God and gave anyway. What is important about their giving is not what or how much they gave, but how they gave it. Without selfishness, they gave to help others. Their giving was from the heart, with little hope or intention of receiving any sort of reward or recognition for their generosity. The monetary values of the widows gifts were small, but their value measured in the Kingdom was priceless. There is a significant similarity between their gift and the gift Jesus gave each of us. The widows offered their lives for God. Jesus offered his life for us. TODAY S READINGS First Reading The widow of Zarephath had only a handful of flour and a little oil, but made a little cake for Elijah (1 Kings 17:10-16). Psalm Praise the Lord, my soul! (Psalm 146). Second Reading Christ will appear a second time to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him (Hebrews 9:24-28). The rite reaches deep into our tradition for an early insight: when we turn to God, we are restored to life in the Church. There are three different forms of penance. The familiar individual confession is preserved, but with tremendous enrichment. It is less rushed, anchored by a reading from scripture, and the confession of sins is seen as an opportunity to proclaim faith in God s power to save. In a sense, what is confessed is the penitent s faith in God s gift of forgiveness. The priest suggests a penance that may be directly connected to the virtue that the person seeks as a means of overcoming the fault. There are formulas for contrition suggested, but the penitent might even express sorrow for sin and desire for mercy in his or her own words. The prayer of absolution grounds the event in the life and ministry of the Church. Harking back to the joyful dance of bishops leading penitents into the church, the rite now ends with a prayer of thanksgiving for God s mercy, and may include the gesture of laying on of hands. After forty years, we struggle to claim this rite forged of memory, tradition, and grace. History tells us to be patient; we do not always recognize a treasure at first. These initiatives empower individuals and communities to prevent the spread of HIV. It is an evening of celebrating and remembering loved ones. ABC s of Catholic Relief Services Vietnam America s and American Catholics long history in Vietnam continues as CRS works so disabled are educated and added to civil society. The Connecticut Historical Society will present the program, Reliving the 1940s: Those Were the Days! The presentation explores how the legacy of the American culture in the 1940s impacts our lives today and what stark differences we see. Genealogists Carol Whitmer and Dick Tomlinson will give a fascinating overview of what the 1940 Census reveals as well as discuss the experiences of growing up in the 1940s. Come and also share your stories of that era. Members, friends and guests are welcome. Ho, Ho, Ho SANTA will soon be on his way from the North Pole to Incarnation for the 14th Annual Children s Christmas Party! Sponsored by the Incarnation Men s Association. This is a free event.
