Thank you to all who supported the Propagation of the Faith collection last weekend. Incarnation Choir Project: Handbells. Mrs. Theodora Niver, our Director of Music would like to expand our instrumental music program by purchasing handbells to enhance our Chime Choir. The addition of handbells would be another means of complementing our liturgy celebration. Handbells add a new dimension to many parts of the liturgy and provide another opportunity to glorify God. We invite your support of this project which can be donated to in numerous ways, as a memorial gift to our church in honor of or in memory of or just a donation. Donors names and those honored/memorialized will be inscribed on an Honor/ Memorial Board which will be displayed in our church. Those who make donations of $50.00 or greater will have the opportunity to have the name of your loved one on the plaque. Flyers at exits. GRADE 3:Saturday, Oct., 27-8:30-9:45 am. GRADE 2: Sunday, Oct., 28-9:30-10:15 am followed by 10:30am Mass & Children s Liturgy of the Word. GRADE 4: Tuesday, October :15 pm (note day change due to Halloween on 10/31.) GRADE 5 & 6 also meets on Tuesday, Oct. 30-6:30-8pm This is a COMBINED class due to Halloween on 10/31. GRADE 1: Saturday, Nov., 3 rd -8:30-9:45 am GRADE 3: Sunday, Nov., 4 th - 9:30-10:15 am. All families are encouraged to attend Mass together following their child s class. DISMISSAL FOR SUNDAY CLASSES (NOTE CHANGE) Due to the heavy traffic before/masses on Sundays, we will be dismissing the children in Grades 1, 2, & 3 from the WEST end of the Hall. Entrance will still be on the EAST side at the main doors. We hope this alleviates some of the traffic congestion due to incoming/outgoing cars. GRADE 4 RETREAT GRADE 4 RETREAT scheduled for Saturday, October 27 from 3-5pm has been POSTPONED until Sat., January 26, 2019 at the same time. Crawford Hall. SNACK COLLECTION FOR KIDS CAFÉ Snack collection extended until October 30. All Elementary Faith Formation Classes are invited to participate in our annual SNACK Collection to benefit Kids Café in Hartford during the month of October! More than 600 children in the Hartford area are fed a hot meal daily. Bring your snacks to your next scheduled class. Notices have been sent out. Thank you in advance. COMMUNITY OUTREACH FOR ST. GERARD CENTER GRADES 3&4 Fundraiser for St. Gerard Center for Life this wkd, October 27&28 after all Masses. Together with the Respect Life Committee, the 3 rd & 4 th Grade Elementary Faith Formation students & their families, are selling beautiful Holy Family statues for $10 & Advent Calendars for $5. They will be available in the Narthex & Fr. Crawford Hall after all Masses. Cash/checks made out to The Church of the Incarnation will be graciously accepted. Donations are most welcomed. In addition, we are asking all families to make contributions of disposable diapers (sizes 5&6), pull-ups (sizes 3t/4t) and baby wipes. All proceeds will go to St. Gerard Center for Life to assist them in their good works. CATECHIST WORKSHOP & REFLECTION A Catechist and Facilitator Workshop and evening of Reflection is being held on Thursday, November 8 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Father Crawford Hall. This is an opportunity to reflect on the ministry and share ideas and experiences with each other. EVENING OF REFLECTION FOR PARENTS As part of our Faith Formation Vision, we are offering parent workshops/evenings of reflection for all adults on their faith journey. Our first in a series is called, Quenching our Thirst for Peace and will be on Thurs., November 15 from 7-8:15 p.m. in Fr. Crawford Hall followed by refreshments. Our presenter is Kelly Henderschedt, Director of Catechetical Education for the Archdiocese of Hartford. Life is often so busy and hectic with a pace that can leave us exhausted. Amidst this chaos, we find ourselves thirsting for something. But what? Gift yourself with time & the opportunity to slow down the speed of life and breathe in the grace of the God who loves us. 7th & 8th grade Faith Formation Due to Election Day & Fr. Crawford Hall being used for voting, please note that there is NO class for 8th grade on Tues. Nov. 6th. 7th grade class will meet on Wed. Nov. 7th. Next 8th grade class: Tues. 11/20. On Sat. Nov. 17th, 7th & 8th grade will attend the 5PM Mass together & then gather in Fr. Crawford Hall for a pizza social. 5 Page Five Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time..October 28, 2018 A Weekly Bible Study 30 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 10:46-52 He is the shabby beggar, all too often invisible in the crowds. His is the lone voice too many times ignored or even silenced. Shhh, quiet, Jesus is coming and we want to be able to hear him speak to us! In their hearts they are perhaps thinking, you could not have anything that important to say. The entreaty of Bartimaeus is one that most of us would not have the courage to make. We do not want to draw attention to ourselves or to our desperate need. But it is that humble, faithfilled supplication that gets the attention of Jesus, who then seems to turn the table on our expectations. (If we were to rewrite the scenario at this point, we would probably have Jesus rush to the side of the beggar and perform a healing of his blindness.) At this point Jesus enlists the crowds, asking them to call out to Bartimaeus, to see and recognize him, to include them in their masses. And they respond quickly and willingly. Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you, they clamor. Jesus does not even have to tell them what to say. They seem to know in the instinct of their hearts that they are part of the beggar s healing. The miracle that is about to happen takes place in the midst of a faith community that rallies around the sufferer. It is the love and support of the community that paves the way for the beggar to be touched by the Lord. Perhaps the real healing that takes place is the transformation of the hearts who fail initially to see the beggar or to realize their connectedness to him. When Jesus asks, What do you want me to do for you? he is appealing to the heart of each person in the crowd. And when the beggar asks simply to see, is he not also asking that those around him may have true sight? The question that Jesus poses makes its way gently into our own hearts. And the beggar speaks for all of us when he says, Master, I want to see. We will be recognizing the uniqueness of Catholic Schools with Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors a weeklong celebration with several exciting events to choose from. This focused pro-life campaign has measured life-saving results. So far, 40 Days for Life campaigns have been conducted in 769 communities in 50 nations. More than 14,600 children have been reported as saved from abortion. Local abortion numbers have dropped, as much as 28%. October is Respect Life month. We pray for all who work to defend life, that God might reward them for their faithfulness. Amen! 7 Page Seven Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time..October 28, 2018 THE HOPE AND PROMISE OF REDEMPTION The prophet Jeremiah prophesies the end of the Babylonian exile. He describes how the weak and sorrowful people now return with joy. These are the scattered people of God: the blind and the lame, the mothers and pregnant women. They shall be led along an easy road so that no one will stumble. The Lord s kindness and mercy are on all these weak and broken people. Here and in Psalm 126 we find the most lovely poetic images of God s love and care for us. Those that sow in tears / shall reap rejoicing. Although they go forth weeping, / carrying the seed to be sown, / they shall come back rejoicing, / carrying their sheaves (Psalm 126:5 6). Although God had to punish Israel for their many sins, God never forgot them, scattered as they were, and brings them all back to the land of their ancestors, there to flourish and be joyful again. We can see in this the hope and the promise of our own redemption, gathered from the far corners of the earth into the great banquet of God. Almost all of them died at Tyburn, a place of public execution near today s Marble Arch in Hyde Park, London. The first to suffer were Carthusian monks who refused to swear an oath supporting Henry VIII as supreme head of the Church in England, and the last was Saint Oliver Plunkett, the Primate Archbishop of Ireland. The method of execution was particularly vile, since the condemned were hanged and their living bodies quartered to be displayed around London as a horrific warning. Today, the tree-like gallows provides the design of a religious symbol, the canopy over the altar of the martyrs in Tyburn Convent. There, at the heart of the bustling city, a monastic community of women practices contemplative prayer and spiritual hospitality in the Benedictine tradition. Oddly, the community is French in origin; it was expelled from France a century ago when France outlawed contemplative monastic life. England, where the laws against Catholicism had been lifted, invited the community in. In gratitude to their new homeland, and in honor of those who gave their lives for the Catholic faith, the nuns came to Tyburn. In the public crypt, coats of arms stand for each of the 350 martyrs.
