3 Page Three A Weekend of Incredible Service to Others: Thank you to all of our Confirmation candidates and their families for participating in our Annual Poor Person's Soup Supper this past weekend. Our candidates are amazing young men and women and they represented our parish in a very wonderful way. I thank the parents who worked tirelessly in the kitchen. Also, thank you to the Kid's Cafe Team of Adults, Cathy Beers, Phyllis DiFiore, Filomena Marinelli, Gina Zaino and the Kid's Cafe Bake Sale Confirmation Team and their families. The Soup Supper raised $2, This was presented to Sebastian for the House of Bread. Many bottles of cooking oil and loaves of bread were brought in for donation. The Bake Sale raised $ which was presented to Wanda and Norman for Kid's Cafe. The parents of the second grade children dug for loose change at our Pizza Supper and raised $80.00 for the children of the Congo. A generous catechist added $ This was donated to the Gently used toy Tag Sale organized by Cathy Mandile and Lynn Odell's 6th grade community and their families. The collection for sending a child to the Congo to Catholic School for a year amounted to $ We thank our parishioners for their ongoing support of the activities of our youth. The faith and the spirit of giving is being passed on. Please enjoy the picture of our Confirmation candidates who worked so hard at the Soup Supper. God bless you all! Noranne Wamester Fifth Sunday of Lent....March 25, 2012 New Day, bereavement support continues on Mon., March 26th - 1pm in the rectory. Faith Formation for Grades 7 & 8 will meet this week in Fr. Crawford Hall. Grades K-6 Faith Formation will meet on Saturday, March 31st at EmersonWilliams School at 9am. Children s Liturgy of the Word will be held next week at 9:30am Mass. Join us for refreshments after in Fr. Crawford Hall. Children of the Diocese of Kikwit in the Congo; Once again we are raising funds to send children to a Catholic School in the Congo. It costs $ a year to send a child. Last year, Father Honore Kombe was overwhelmed as we presented $2,100 to send 21 impoverished children to Catholic School. C.L.W. Team, our 4th grade Faith Formation class would like to thank you for your March 4th Liturgy of the Word lesson. Your lesson taught us about Jesus transfiguration. 4 Page 4 Fifth Sunday of Lent....March 25, 2012 Incarnation Lenten & Holy Week Mass Schedule: During Lent daily mass will be celebrated at 9am Monday-Saturday excluding Holy Thursday, Good Friday & Holy Saturday. Holy Thursday Mass will be at 7pm. Good Friday Liturgical Service 3pm, Holy Saturday Easter Vigil Mass 8pm & Easter Sunday 8, 9:30 & 11am. Corpus Christi will celebrate masses at 6:45am throughout Lent and 5:30pm Monday-Friday. Saturday at 7:30am. Corpus Christi offers Stations of the Cross on Friday evenings at 7:30pm. Basketball: We will celebrate our wonderful season with a catered Basketball Dinner Banquet to be held on Monday, April 16th at 6pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. Parents are invited to share a dessert or 2 liter soda. All players and their families are invited to attend. Please let your coach know if your family is able to attend. Return to your head coach that night all clean uniforms in bags labeled by team and player name. Thank you! The Archbishop s Annual Appeal provides help to those in need! This year s Appeal goal is a challenge, but it is nothing compared to the challenge many suffer every day of their lives. Please consider supporting this important effort. Easter Communion Regulation: Catholics are obliged to receive Communion at least once between the 1st Sunday of Lent & Trinity Sunday. Fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, i.e. milk/juices, are allowed. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection. Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of complete abstinence (from meat) for all who have completed their 14th year. The rule does not apply when health or ability to work would be seriously impacted.

6 Page Six Fifth Sunday of Lent....March 25, 2012 THE NEW COVENANT Today s first reading is an enormously important passage, not only in the history of the Jewish people, but also for us as disciples of Jesus, who see in it a foreshadowing of the Christian dispensation. The prophet announces that God has chosen to forgive the people, and that as a sign of divine forgiveness a new covenant will be established. Contrasting the new covenant with the one made with Moses on Mount Sinai, Jeremiah says that the new covenant will be written on the people s hearts rather than on tablets of stone. No longer will the community s tradition be the sole bearer of the covenant; henceforth, God will speak directly and personally to each individual, forgiving sin and calling for a return to God in faithfulness. No longer will mere outward compliance with the dictates of the Law suffice; henceforth, God asks for an obedience that springs from the depths of one s heart. Precisely that kind of obedience is highlighted in today s second reading, where the author of the Letter to the Hebrews describes Jesus as the mediator of the new covenant whose obedience has made him the source of salvation for all who, in turn, obey him. In those days, the statues and crucifixes were draped in purple cloth, and a deeply somber atmosphere infused worship. The structure is different today for good reason. The stunning changes in the appearance of the church building drew attention away from the twofold work of Lent: reconciliation and preparing for initiation. Today, this Sunday is given to reflection on the necessity to commit, like Jesus, to the Father s will. As Lent draws to a close over the next ten days, and before the beginning of the Easter Triduum on Holy Thursday, we enter an ideal time for celebrating the sacrament of reconciliation. Today s old title of Passion Sunday has migrated to next Sunday, also called Palm Sunday.
