3 Page Three Seventh Sunday of Easter..May 8, 2016 Children s Liturgy of the Word: Our final Liturgy for the season is this Sun., 5/8/16, 10:30am mass. Join us for refreshments in Father Crawford Hall after Mass. We will resume C.L.W. in September. The May Crowning will be held on Sunday, May 8th at 10:30 mass. All children are invited to process in our annual May Crowning for our Blessed Mother. Children are asked to wear dressy church attire. The first crowning will occur after the Prayers of the Faithful and after Mass we will follow our Choir out to our Blessed Mother s Grotto to crown our Lady of Grace. Mother s Day Rose Sale: Sponsored by the Incarnation Respect Life Committee is this weekend, May 7th & 8th at all Masses. Proceeds benefit St. Gerard s Center For Life in Wethersfield, a center that strives to perpetuate the mission to end abortion and support life. $5.00 per rose. Our Confirmation candidates & Youth Ministry members will sell the roses at all entrances. A Confirmation Session will be held Sunday, May 15th from 12:30-2pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. Registration for Faith Formation: Letters were mailed. If you wish to register a new student and the child has not been baptized at The Church of the Incarnation, a copy of your child's Baptismal certificate must accompany the registration form in order for the registration to be processed. Gr. 9 students (Sept. 2016) will receive an invitation in Oct. for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Happy Mother s Day!! We gather together to honor all mothers, but most especially ours, on this Mother s Day..We will pray for her, pay tribute to her, spend time with her, or reflect on her life in heaven. Whether she was a birth mother, an adoptive mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, or friend to us, this is the day we call to mind the gifts she has or had, that made her a woman who shared unconditional love as all mothers do. This concert is part of our Confirmation Candidates Year of Mercy service project as they raise awareness and funds for Pediatric Cancer Research. 4 Page Four Seventh Sunday of Easter..May 8, 2016 A Weekly Bible Study 7 th Sunday of Easter Revelation 22: Behold, I am coming soon. Do these words frighten you? Perhaps they should! In the very next line of this passage from Revelation John speaks of Christ bringing the recompense he will give to each according to his deeds. It was a message of reassurance to the first century Christians whose persecutors would realize the Lord s judgment against them. Moreover, these martyrs had washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and would soon obtain their eternal reward. While it is not likely that we will ever face martyrdom, we are all called to stand daily in readiness for judgment. The Lord may, in fact, be coming to us soon. As the Gospels tell us repeatedly, we know neither the day nor the hour. Weekly Reflection for the Year of Mercy To give drink to the thirsty calls us to be mindful of those around us who need drink: an outside worker on a cold or hot day, those who are aged/ infirm and unable to secure drink on their own, a hospital or nursing home patient whose lips are parched, the crying infant, the child who cannot reach the water fountain, the visitor or traveler who knocks on our door, the homeless person we encounter on our streets. We are also called to be environmentally aware, resourceful and not wasteful with water. We may extend this work of mercy to those who are thirsting among us for an embrace, a kind word, a listening ear, an imparting of our wisdom. But what of our redemption? John goes on to tell us that we are the Bride of Christ. The Bride represents the redeemed community of God s people, the church. What a beautiful image of intimacy with God are we, the church. But do we live up to the level of loving to which we are called? As individuals and as a redeemed community, we are continually called to conversion. Our repentance does not end at the Lenten confessional door. We will, in fact, be made to render an account of our Christian living. Ours is a lifelong journey, one joined in Christ s death, embracing his cross as we live out our faith. Drawing the life-giving water to which John refers, we renew daily our Baptismal commitment to Christ and to his Church. As we walk in readiness of spirit and soul, only then can we cry out Come, Lord Jesus. Thank you to those who have made a donation to the 2016 Archbishop s Annual Appeal. The Sanctuary Light enclosed in red glass burns to signify that the Blessed Sacrament is present in the Tabernacle in the Chapel. 6 Page Six Seventh Sunday of Easter..May 8, 2016 REVISITING OUR BAPTISM A mere seven weeks ago thousands of new Church members were baptized. Their new life in Christ has once again infused new life into the Church. Their new-found faith has inspired and bolstered the faith of those who have followed Christ for many years. As the Easter season nears its end, we revisit the scene of our baptisms. In the second reading we hear Christ calling us: Come.... Let... the one who wants it receive the gift of life-giving water (Revelation 22:17). But our baptism is not one of water only. John refers to washed robes, and we know that this washing is to be in the blood of the Lamb. To make sure we get this message, we have today s first reading from Acts. It is the story of Stephen, the first Christian to be killed for his faith in Jesus. We remember the promise and also the cost of being a disciple of Christ. TODAY S READINGS First Reading Because Stephen professes his faith in the Son of Man, he is stoned to death (Acts 7:55-60). Psalm The Lord is king, the most high over all the earth (Psalm 97). Second Reading I, the Alpha and the Omega, am coming soon (Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20). This encouragement for creativity has deep roots in our tradition, and some attempts at reform show great promise. One of the great treasures in our devotional repertoire is a familiar feature of Lent: the Way of the Cross. The faithful walk a path recalling the events of Christ s passion, a contemplative experience increasingly enriched these days by scripture and song. There are fourteen stations in the usual configuration, although in recent years, a fifteenth station of the Empty Tomb has been added. Why stop there? Why not develop a similar journey structured on the theme of the appearances of the Risen Lord? Over the last decade, a Via Lucis, or Way of Light, has developed as a companion to the Via Crucis. It has been celebrated at the Vatican and is catching on elsewhere. There are fourteen stations, beginning with the Women Carrying Spices to the Tomb, continuing with the familiar appearances of the Lord at Emmaus, the Upper Room, the shore of Tiberias. The journey ends with stations recalling the Apostles wait with Mary for the advent of the Spirit, and with Pentecost. This is fertile ground indeed for the genius of artists, musicians, preachers, and liturgists. This is a living example of how many of our traditions are born to fill a great spiritual need, and spread to every corner of the Church. It may even come soon to a church near you. We were able to collect over 600 bunnies, doubling last year's amount. The bunnies you provided were donated to The CT Children's Medical Center, Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Vance Village School, & the Newington Dept. of Human Services. Your thoughtful donations have brought comfort and joy to many children going through difficult journeys. The outpouring of support from everyone was truly heartwarming. Thank you! Julianna & Elaina

7 Page Seven Seventh Sunday of Easter..May 8, 2016 First Communion 2016 On Saturday, May 7th, 29 beautiful children received the Lord in the Eucharist for the first time. It was truly a beautiful day in the lives of our children and their families. We would like to thank each family for your participation and witness to the Sacred Sacrament of First Holy Communion. May the Eucharist always be at the center of your family life. The children prepared very well for this moment. We invite our parishioners to view the prayer center in the Narthex. Each child came to the quiet on their retreat day and pondered the prayer starter I can be a ray of light to the world by The prayer of each child reflects the true simplicity and beauty of the relationship with Jesus that children have. May we, as a community grow from the prayers of the children. Each child also created a blessing cup on their retreat as a remembrance of their First Communion. The catechist strives to be an instrument of the Lord s power and sign of the Spirit s presence. We are grateful to all catechists who serve in the ministry of education in our parish. We especially ask God s blessings on those who helped to prepare the children for this day. We are most grateful to all those who dedicated their time and shared their talents to make this day meaningful and special. The theme of A World Filled with Mercy and Love is carried through in the banner present in the sanctuary and in the prayers of the children. Our sincere gratitude to our Pastor, Father James Moran for his guidance and support for our children, parents and catechists throughout this year. Special gratitude to Theresa Aiudi and to Maggie Seaver for their faithful assistance to the Faith Formation Office. A special thank you to Antoinette Munoz, our sacristan, who so beautifully prepared the vessels and vestments for our Eucharistic celebration. Gratitude sings out to Theodora Niver and the beautiful voices of the cantors, youth choir and sounds of the musicians. Our sincerest thank you to Noranne Wamester, Pastoral Associate, whose leadership and spiritual direction has made this time such a beautiful witness of Christ s enduring love for His children.

Cooking Teams in April and May organized by leaders Judi Farinella, Kirsten Sheehan and Paula Melillo prepared meals for Mercy House and Tabor House in Hartford. Team leaders planned meals and purchased food for Chicken Divan, Ricotta Stuffed Shells, Italian Meatballs, rice pilaf, sautéed broccoli, garden salad, chocolate éclair dessert, strawberry shortcake and melon slices. Assorted rolls, bread and soft drinks completed the menu. Thank you to all the cooking helpers who made the preparation and delivery of these meals possible; Marianne Carabase, Ivana Cieri, Gert Cornelio, Ann Marie DiLoreto, Ellie Gaspic, Joan Lawlor, Terri Martino, Connie Morin, Maria O Rourke, Rita-Ann Owen, Carolyn Pakenas, Diane Shovak, Kathie Skinner and Joyce Suffish. The next cooking session will be June 6. Easter Communion Regulation: Catholics are obliged to receive Communion at least once between the First Sunday of Lent and Trinity Sunday.
