SHARING THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL FOR GENERATIONS: This weekend is the Kick-Off Weekend for the 2019 Archbishop s Annual Appeal. A DVD video showing how this Appeal helps the lives of thousands will be shown at all masses. Project Baby Love collection this wkd. Disposable diapers and baby wipes are requested. There is a great need for sizes 4, 5 & 6 diapers only please. Thank you! Annual St. Patrick s Dinner Mon., March 11th, Fr. Crawford Hall Doors open at 6pm Thanks to everyone who made a reservation. The second collection next weekend will be the monthly collection. Incarnation Parish Soup Supper: Sat., March 23RD: After 5pm Mass Gather with parishioners after Mass to break bread together, share a simple meal, and bring awareness to the issue of hunger in our town and throughout the world. The delicious soups will be donated from local restaurants and stores. There is no admission fee, but cash donations will be accepted to support the Wethersfield Food Bank & House of Bread in Hartford. Drop in anytime from 5:45-7:30pm. Thank you to our Confirmation candidates and their families for hosting this event. Mondays during Lent is Confession Day in the Archdiocese of Hartford. Incarnation will offer confessions on Lenten Mondays from 6:30-7:30pm. Our regular confession schedule continues on Saturdays from 3:30-4:15pm.

4 Page Four FAITH FORMATION (GRADES 1-6) All classes are held in Fr. Crawford Hall according to the time/grade level. GRADE 2: Saturday, March 2, 8:30-9:45 a.m. GRADE 1: Sunday, March 3, 9:30-10:15 a.m. GRADE 6: Tuesday, March 5, 6:30-8:00 p.m. GRADE 4: Ash Wednesday, March 6 from 5-6:15 p.m. We will attend Mass from 5:30-6:15 p.m., with imposition of ashes at the Mass. GRADE 5: Ash Wednesday, March 6 from 6:308:00 p.m. Ashes will be imposed to students prior to the start of class in the 6:20 p.m. GRADE 3: Saturday, March 9, 8:30-9:45 a.m. the Main Church. We will have a tour of the Church, Baptistry, & the Vessels/Vestments. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered for all children in Grades 4, 5, and 6 during their scheduled classes over the next several weeks. CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD: Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the 10:30 am Mass. Our presiders are Maura Buyak and Andrea Boyle along with Confirmation Candidate Anthony Moyer. No refreshments will be served this day due to the Grade 2 Retreat. GRADE 6 RETREAT: Saturday, March 2 from 3-5:00 p.m. followed by 5:00 p.m. Mass & Pizza Social at 6 p.m. in Fr. Crawford Hall. This is a mandatory Retreat. Families are asked to join their children at Mass in the reserved section of the Church and invited to join us for pizza. GRADE 2 RETREAT: Sunday, March 3rd following the 10:30 a.m. Mass and Children s Liturgy of the Word. This is a mandatory Retreat focused on the Sacrament of Reconciliation. All children are invited to participate in the Mass. A pizza luncheon will be served for the Grade 2 children from 11:30-12:00 p.m. prior to the start of the Retreat. Your cooperation is appreciated. Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time..March 3, 2019 GRADE 3 RETREAT THANK YOU: Thank you to all the Catechists, Facilitators, Parents and Confirmation Candidates who helped make the First Holy Communion Retreat such a great success. From bread-making to painting blessing cups, the retreat was a wonderful preparation for receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. Community Service Project to Benefit CT. Children s Medical Center The 1st & 2nd Grade Faith Formation classes are collecting New or Homemade blankets and Beanie style hats to be given to the patients at C.C.M.C. The patients love the fleece tie blankets! **Blankets & Hats can be dropped off at Masses on March 3rd &10th or from 5-8 in Fr. Crawford Hall on March 15th** Bianca is a 9 year old 3rd grade Faith Formation student from Wethersfield who has been a patient at CT. Children s Medical Center since she was 3 weeks old. She wants to give back to the hospital that has helped to keep her flying. She has also been collecting hats and blankets for the patients to help keep them warm and brighten their time in the hospital. **Questions please contact Camie Mollica at camie.mollica@gmail.com** 7th & 8th grade Faith Formation: Next gathering for our 8th grade class is Tues. March 12th, and our 7th grade class will meet on Wed. March 13th. Class is held from 6:30-8pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. The girls' retreat will be led by the Mercy High School Peer Ministry Team & the boys' retreat will by lead by the Xavier High School Peer Ministry Team.

5 Page Five Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time..March 3, 2019 PRAYER CORNER Preparing Our Lenten Hearts As we begin the Season of Lent this week, we look more closely to Jesus to strengthen us in our efforts at discipleship. We pray to the Lord: As you sought the quiet of the desert, teach us to pray. As you sat among the elders in the temple, teach us to seek wisdom. As you revealed the mysteries of the Kingdom, teach us to learn. As you called Peter to walk to you across the water, teach us to believe. As you washed the feet of your disciples, teach us to love. As you opened your mind and heart to God's will in the garden, teach us to listen. As you promised paradise to the thief on the cross, teach us to hope. Wednesday, March 6th is Ash Wednesday, which begins the Season of Lent. We will offer imposition of ashes at the 9am mass, the 5:30pm mass and during a Scripture Service beginning at 3:30pm and ending at 4pm. Lenten Mass Schedule: During Lent daily mass will be celebrated at The Church of the Incarnation at 9am Monday-Saturday excluding Holy Thursday, Good Friday & Holy Saturday. Lenten Regulations: Catholics ages 14 and older are to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent. The rule does not apply when health or ability to work would be seriously impacted. Catholics who have celebrated their 18 th birthday, but have not yet marked their 59 th are to fast on Ash Wednesday & Good Friday. On days of fast, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to individual needs but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. Easter Communion Regulation: Catholics are obliged to receive Communion at least once between the First Sunday of Lent & Trinity Sunday. For your information, Christ the King Parish will celebrate daily mass during Lent at 7:30am and 5:30pm at Corpus Christi Church. Stations of the Cross will take place on all Fridays during Lent at 7:00pm at Corpus Christi Church.

God is good to the deserving and does not surprise us but God shows goodness and mercy to the rude and the mean, which is more than we can fathom. Still Small Voice Concert : Thanks to all who attended this Concert last Sunday. It was a lovely hour of prayer and reflection presented by six wonderful women of God. The fellowship after the concert reflected a definite feeling of calm and renewal. We came away with a deeper sense of what it means to "Give it All to God." Bunnies For Hunnies has been providing children in need with stuffed animal bunnies for the past 6 years. Please consider donating a new bunny to provide comfort, strength, & smiles for children facing difficult life journeys. Bunnies will be delivered to the CT Children s Medical Central, Yale New Haven Children s Hospital, & various Shelters. If you would like to donate, bring your bunny to Incarnation rectory by 3/23. 7 Page Seven Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time..March 3, 2019 THE INSIDE SHOWS: In this third Sunday of our reading from the Sermon on the Plain, Jesus speaks of the inner soul and its outer expression. He uses images as he teaches. He addresses all of us. Jesus sees a plumb line connecting the soul with the soul's expression-words and actions. He uses exaggeration to drive home his point. We are urged to clear out the debris that blinds us. He knows that we have an uncanny ability to be blind to our own weaknesses, though they be as big as a board. He knows, too, how willingly we seem to ferret out others' smallest specklike flaws. And this, too, is for our general consumption; solid old goodness and solid old badness will show eventually. The old Latin saying, which echoes Jesus images, is true: What is bred in the bone will out in the flesh. By and by, the inside will show through. TODAY S READINGS First Reading One s speech shows the bent of one s mind. Praise no one before he or she speaks (Sirach 27:4-7). Psalm Lord, it is good to give thanks to you (Psalm 92). Perpetua and Felicity Friday: St. John of God; Abstinence Saturday: St. Frances of Rome TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Many Catholics who are not active in the Church will still seek out ashes this Wednesday. Likewise, many Jews who are not otherwise observant will follow the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, with great exactness, fasting and refraining from work and entertainment. People customarily dress in white as a symbol of purity and a reminder of God s promise that our sins will be made white as snow. While the overture to Ash Wednesday for Christians may be a festive Mardi Gras celebration, for Jews it is the New Year feast of Rosh Hashanah. Ten days before the Day of Atonement to God, people are expected to repair breaks in human life. These are days for offering forgiveness and seeking to repair harmed relationships with family, friends, or coworkers. Everyone is expected to seek out someone and clear the air by asking for understanding for any mean words or thoughtless deeds in the past year. Perhaps the ashes you receive will be invested with deeper meaning if you follow a similar plan. This year, Rosh Hashanah will be September 29, and Yom Kippur October 8. A conversation with some Jewish friends or neighbors about their experience of a season of repentance may be a blessing on your Lent. A gathering on a Sunday afternoon to bring forth a new and dynamic event for our parish is being planned early The New Day Program begins Monday, March 18th, at 1pm in Fr. Crawford Hall. This 8 week program meets weekly for approximately an hour & a half. This gathering embraces all who have lost a loved one through death. Usually after 6 months the reality of the loss of a loved one sets in. The support of the New Day Journal & coming together truly helps one to learn coping skills and most of all to realize that one is not alone on this journey. Pre-registration is required. All donations benefit St. Luke Foundation for Haiti founded by Wethersfield native Fr. Rick Frechette! How can you help? Students will invite you to adopt & sponsor their hens. All donations will help supplement the cost of the feed for the 100 hens over the next 3 years. All donations welcome! Look for our hens the wkd. of March 16 & 17 after all Masses.
